What Will Matter.

Post 137 - - - - - - Saturday, 10 th February, 2007.

Hello my friends - - - I hope you are are doing well, and about to have a wonderful
weekend. Mine is half over as it is Saturday night, nearly 11 pm, so I had better get on with it. I have been busy planting some vegetable seedlings, Silver beet, yellow beans
and some broad beans. So my back is telling me about it, but it is a good tiredness.
I put some water retaining crystals around them and watered it well, then spread some mulch. The mulch is from the tops of sugar-cane, so I hope sugar doesn't grow, as I'm a diabetic. lol Though I have had pieces of plant used as a support for others, grow.
My son, John is off on his motor-bike again this weekend and has gone well up into
New South Wales so I hope he get home safely tomorrow. My other son, Geoff and his wife Joanne are coming up next weekend to see me and stay a night. They had
a great time on their trip to Tasmania.

Tonight's article is called "What Will Matter." - - - Michael Josephson.

Ready or not, someday it will all come to an end.
There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days.
All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten
will pass to someone else.
Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.

It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed
Your grudges, resentments, frustrations and jealousies will finally disappear.
So too your hopes, ambitions, plans and to do lists will expire.
The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.

It won't matter where you came from or on which side ot the tracks you
lived on at the end.
It won't matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant
Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.

SO What Will Matter ?
How will the value of your days be measured?

What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built,
Not what you got, but what you gave.

What will matter is not your success, but your significance.

What will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught.

What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage, or
sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate
your example.

What will matter is not your competence, but your character.

What will not matter is how many people you know, but how many
will feel a lasting love when you're gone.

What will matter is not your memories, but the memories that live in
those who loved you.

What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom and for what.

Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident,
It is not a matter of circumstance, but of choice,

Choose to live a life that matters.

Joke time - - -

How many men does it take to open a beer?
None. It should be opened by the time she brings it.

Why is a Laundromat a really bad place to pick up a woman?
Because a woman who can't afford a washing machine will probably never
be able to support you.

Why do women have smaller feet than men?
It allows them to stand closer to the sink.

How do you know when a woman is about to say something smart?
She starts her sentence with "A man once told me . . ."

How do you fix a woman's watch?
It doesn't matter. There is a clock on the oven.

If your dog is barking at the back door and your wife is yelling at the front door,
who do you let in first?
The dog. He'll shut up once you let him in.

What is worse than a Male Chauvinist Pig?
A woman that won't do as she is told.

I married Miss Right, I just didn't know her first name was Always.

I haven't spoken to my wife for 18 months. I don't like to interrupt her.

Scientists have discovered a food that diminishes a woman's sex drive by up to 90%
It is called wedding cake.

Marriage is a three ring circus: Engagement ring, wedding ring, suffering.

My wife asked me "What's on the TV? I said "Dust."

In the beginning, God created the earth and rested. Then God created Man and
rested. Then God created Woman. Since then, neither God nor Man has rested.

Why do men die before their wives? They want to.

A man inserted an advertisement in the classified section with the heading --
"Wife Wanted." The next day he got 100 letters sayng "You can have mine."

OK Girls, Now one to get even for all of those.

A woman accompanied her husband to the doctor's office.

After his check-up, the doctor called the wife into his office alone. He said, "Your
husband is suffering from a very severe stress disorder. If you don't follow my
instructions carefully, your husband will surely die.

Each morning, fix him a healthy breakfast. Be pleasant at all times. For lunch, make
him a nutritious meal. For dinner prepare an especially nice meal for him.

Don't burden him with chores. Don't discuss your problems with him; it will only make his stress worse. Do not nag him. Most importantly, make love to him regularly.

If you can do this for the next 10 months to a year, I think your husband will regain
his health completely."

On the way home, the husband asked his wife, "What did the doctor say?"

"He said you're going to die." she replied.

Quotations.
Always forgive your enemies - Nothing annoys them so much.
If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?
When everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder.
For Sale: Parachute. Only used once, never opened, small stain.
Everyone has a photographic memory. Some just don't have film.
Join the Army. Visit exotic places, meet strange people, then kill them.
I poured Spot remover on my dog. Now he's gone.

When you're right, no one remembers. When you're wrong, no one forgets.

Cheer up, the worst is still to come.

Everyone makes mistakes. The trick is to make them when nobody is looking.

They say hard work never hurt anybody, but why take the chance.

Where there's a will, there are five hundred relatives.

Everyone wants to go to Heaven, but nobody wants to die.

Never argue with a fool. People might not know the difference.

That's it for tonight folks. Have a great weekend. Cheers, Merle.

Merle, I have to commend you for all your efforts in planting your vegetables. I could never get into that stuff...although I've had home grown vegetables, and they are wonderful. You really spend a lot of time with your garden. I hope your back is okay. Glad to hear you'll be having more visitors next weekend...so nice for you all. Let's see...right now it's 8 degrees...hardly garden weather. How about if I promise to stay warm...you promise to keep cool. Have a beautiful rest of the weekend Merle...

Regarding mistakes, I've often preached to my kids--make very few mistakes, and admit even fewer.

Hea, Merle, twasn't this Dave who said your blog was too long. There are some works that it would be criminal to condense. Tolstoy's War and Piece. Any novel by James Michener. And I would add to that your blog. I find it a joy to read from beginning to end.

Hiya Merle...I've got some broccoli seeds I intend planting once the weather cools down a little bit more. Also I'm going to bury some garlic, silver beet and strawberries. The zucchini plants are doing extremely well and already are setting 'fruit'. My cherry tomatoes are still producing, which is great...don't go straining your back too much!

Hi Merle

Now you just watch your back in that gardening caper, Merle (or get yourself a good physiotherapist/masseuse - preferably one that's young, male and good looking!).

I can add another short line to get even with all the "women" jokes.

When God made man, She was only joking!

Have a nice day.

Hugs xoxo
