Hello My Friends ~~ I had a day off yesterday because John came around
to spend some time with Bec and me. I hope you are all enjoying your
weekend or are about to. It has been fairly decent weather here during
Bec's stay. Fine, but cold, and she is from the northern state of Queensland,
But we are coping well and eating well and enjoying the time together.
She has gone down to John's home this afternoon to see the dogs in daylight.
They remembered her of course, such little cuties - or Fluff balls as someone
called them.
I spent a lot of time cooking yesterday, some pork chops, lamb chops and a
yummy seasoned chicken loaf all with roast vegetables and the rest. Bec has
enjoyed home cooked meals. Plus we have had some extra treats- great
for the waistline, not to mention the diabetes.
I have two more of those "Through a Child's Eyes" stories for you.
A lesson in " heart" is my little 10 year old daughter, Sarah, who was born
with a muscle missing in her foot and wears a brace all the time. She came
home one beautiful spring day to tell me she had competed in "field day" --
that's where they have lots of races and other competitive events,
Because of her leg support, my mind raced as I tried to think of encourage-
ment for my Sarah. things I could say to her about not letting this get her
down == but before I could get a word out, she said, "Daddy, I won two of
the races !"
I couldn't believe it ! Then Sarah said, "I had an advantage." Ah, I knew
it. I thought she may have been given a head start . . . some sort of
physical advantage. But again, before I could say anything, she said,
"Daddy, I didn't get a head start. . . My advantage was I had to try harder !!"

A little boy about 10 years old was standing before a shoe store on the road-
way, barefooted , peering through the window, and shivering with cold.
A lady approached the boy and said, "My little fellow, why are you looking
so earnestly in that window ?" "I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes,"
was the boy's reply.
The lady took him by the hand and went into the store and asked the
clerk to get half a dozen pair of socks for the boy. She then asked if he could
give her a basin of water and a towel. He quickly brought them to her. She
took the little fellow to the back part of the store and, removing her gloves,
knelt down, washed his little feet, and dried them with a towel. By this
time the clerk had returned with the socks. Placing a pair on the boy's
feet, she purchased him a pair of shoes. She tied up the remaining pairs
of socks and gave them to him. "No doubt, my little fellow, you will feel
more comfortable now ?"
As she turned to go, the astonished lad caught her by the hand, and looking
up into her face, with tears in his eyes, answered the question with these
words : "Are you God's Wife ?"

These are my two great grand-daughters, Tabatha and Gabrielle who live
in Queensland, Taba is 7 and Gabby is 3. I have better photos,(somewhere)
Bec and me on her last trip "home,"
Peter and me, March, 2007. At my place.
This is my two sons, John and Geoff and me when they and
some of their families took me out for my 7oth birthday.
Bec even put a notice and photo in the local paper. Sneaky !! But she got me a
nicely decorated cake to make up for that. John turned 50 a couple of weeks
later, so I put a notice, but no photo, in the paper too. Bec moved to Qld. soon
after and this is her second visit. We will miss her all over again, when she
leaves on Monday. Her other grandparents, her mother and two sisters all
live up there as does her boyfriend.
Now for some jokes - - - -
The ageing actor was trying to chat up the gorgeous young girl.
"Don't you recognize me?" he asked. She shook her head.
"But I'm quite well known in the movies," he continued.
"Oh!" she said, her eyes lighting up. "Where do you usually sit?"
John rushed out of the committee room and almost collided with Colin.
"Quick,"he said, "where's the tea lady? An important meeting is going on
and we need....."
"Refreshment?" finished Colin for him.
"No, the tea leaves! They need to make a decision and we've lost the pin
and blindfold they usually use!"
A man stopped me in the street. He said "Are there any cops around?"
I said "You must be joking, you can never find one around here!"
He said "Good - stick 'em up!"
Enough for today, Take care my friends, and be kind to each other.
Love and Best Wishes to all.. Cheerio, Merle.

Hi Merle, sorry I haven't dropped by for quite some time. As you probably know, I spent a week at Bonnie Doon, then came home and worked, and repaired a naughty computer. All is happy and healthy now, and I am doing the rounds, visiting blog-friends.
I love that you are including so many photos now ... you obviously have the knack now !! Keep 'em coming, Merle.
Hope your weekend is going well.
Take care, stay warm, hugs .... Meow
Well I have travelled a bit, Tasmania, although didn't make it to Hobart, Perth quite a few times and lived there when very young. Melbourne a lot I lived there in Essendon in 1991 - 1992 worked at the Tennis which was then the Ford Aust. Open, Ballarat quite a few times over the years, Wentworth, Mildura,Swan Hill and a lot to Bright to visit snowfields and did a trip through Dinner Plain around the mountains and to if I recall Omeo, we had a four wheel drive so took mountain tracks alot. Bendigo, Benalla, Albury, Wodonga. Also one year did a trip along to Great Ocean Road to Colac and headed back inland through the forests.Alice Springs, Flinders Ranges, went to Hawker which is a lovely town in the middle of no-where, Broken Hill. Did a Coorong trip and camped on the beach, on our way to Mount Gambier and Naracoorte.Did a lot of trips to the Riverland in South Australia, visited many places there Berri, Mannun, Swan Reach and a lovely little town called Cobdogla where the Humphrey Pump is. I had a boyfiend for a few years and we used to take the caravan, with my son and his 2 boys and just go trekking off exploring. We purchased a property of 14 acres in the Murray district area, a place called Black Hill, put a transportable house there and that was our holiday/weekend escape. It is also where I took those pictures of the Marne River, which ran through our property those pics are on my snapshots blog.I am no longer with that person, and we had to sell our property so don't get around as much as I used to. These are just a few places that come to mind. Theres alot to see in Australia and I hope to see a lot more some-time
great photos, beautiful great granddaughters.
I love the "childs eyes" stories.
Your two great-granddaughters are just adorable Merle....so cute. Love your other pics too...especially the one of you and Peter...I saved it in my 'friends' folder.
I know where I'm going if I ever land in your country....straight to Merle's for some fantastic home cooking. I got hungry just reading what you made for everyone. Yep, you'd be first on my list sweetie....and to hell with any diets. Glad you've been having such a great visit with everyone Merle....hugs to you...
Merle
Those little girls are Angels. I loved the pic with your sons. John has so much character with the beard and I may try to print that picture off for art class and try my hand at trying to capture the character.
Ah, the Great Ocean Road. How I would love to visit and the first horse picture is beautiful.
Keep those pictures coming.
Glad you and Bec are having a good visit.
Thanks for sharing.
love and prayers
You will miss that Rebecca, I'm sure.
I have a neice, Gabrielle, we call her Gabby also.
That actor sitting in the balcony joke would make a nice blond joke.
..
What a lovely looking family you have. Your little granddaughters are just as cute as can be and your sons are very handsome. Aren't you blessed?
