Keen Type.

Hello there Everyone ~ I hope all is well with all of you. All is well at
my place, and another shopping trip done and all put away. I even
have a piece of Silverside – (Corned beef) in the crockpot with
carrots and onions cooking and tomorrow I will do more vegetables.

Today our weather was supposed to be 28, but got to 30 degrees
C which is about 86 degrees Faranheit.
Tomorrow we expect rain and 18 degrees. It was the warmest
September day on record. Too much, too soon !!

I have chosen a poem called “Keen Type.”

There seems to be a trend today
For doing things in a hang-dog way
So that life is a colour scheme in grey –
Here’s hoping it hasn’t come to stay.

It’s probably square, outdated, unsmart,
But I have a liking for the art
Of doing a thing with all one’s heart –
Not just a couldn’t-care-less-sized part.

I like a dog who buries a bone
As if life depended on that alone.
I like a man (and they’re getting rare)
Who isn’t too tired and bored to care;

Who doesn’t sit down and sigh and say
That the worlds in a terrible state today –
For the world after all, is me and you,
And if we keep going, the world wll too.

And some jokes - - - -

A PRIEST NEVER LIES......

A distinguished young woman on a flight from Switzerland asked the priest
beside her,

"Father, may I ask a favour?"

"Of course. What may I do for you?"

"Well, I bought an expensive! electronic hair dryer that is well over the
Customs limits and I'm afraid they'll confiscate it. Is there any way you
could carry it through Customs for me? Under your robes perhaps?"

"I would love to help you, dear, but I must warn you: I will not lie."

"With your honest face, Father, no one will question you."

When they got to Customs, she let the priest go ahead of her.
The official asked, "Father, do you have anything to declare?"
"From the top of my head down to my waist, I have nothing to declare."

The official thought this answer strange, so asked, "And what do you
have to declare from your waist to the floor?"

"I have a marvelous little instrument designed to be used on a woman,
but which is, to date, unused."

Roaring with laughter, the official said, "Go ahead, Father! Next! "

And one from the paper - - - -

The room was full of pregnant women, with their partners, and the
class was in full swing. The instructor was teaching the women how
to breathe properly, and was explaining the role of exercise at this
stage of the pregnancy.

“Ladies, remember that exercise is good for you,” she said.
“Walking is especially beneficial because it strengthens the pelvic
muscles and will make delivery that much easier.”
Then she looked at the men in the room.
“Gentlemen, remember you’re in this together, so it wouldn’t hurt
you to go walking with your partners,” she said.

The room went very quiet as the men slowly absorbed this
information. Then a man at the back of the room slowly raised
his hand.

“Yes?” said the teacher

“I was just wondering,” the man said, “Is it all right if she
carries a golf bag while we walk ?”

Tomorrow is the day of Steve Irwin’s Memorial, so I would
like to post a tribute in form of a poem, written by
Kate Daniel from Katamatite, a small town near here.

The Wildlife Warrior.

On the fourth September people cried
That was the day the Wildlife Warrior died
He had touched many hearts this young Aussie bloke
With his “Crocs rule” and “Crikey folks.”

Steve Irwin lived his whole life with a passion
He even made “khaki” a fashion.
A Dr. Doolittle for the animals became his crusade
A warrior who always came to the aid
Of the sick, injured, endangered and rare
He tried to teach us all to care.

The world needs more Wildlife Warriors to carry on
Now that the Crocodile Hunter has gone
A great legacy he has left behind
“Crocs Rule” and “Crikey” Steve was one of a kind.

I do my thing, and you do your thing,
I am not in this world to live up to your expectations
And you are not in this world to live up to mine.
You are you and I am I,
And if by chance we find each other, it’s beautiful.
If not, it can’t be helped.

--- Frederick (Fritz) Salomon Peris

The Keen Type poem was great and the poem for Steve Irwin was wonderful. The world lost a fantastic human being that day... may he rest in peace.

YAY for shopping :-) Our weather is wild too, we were in the 90's F last week then down to 50's during the day and 40's at night (with the snow in the mountains). The snow is melted now though, I knew it wouldn't take long.

Have a great day! *HUGS*

Hi Merle,
Loved the priest joke. I've never heard corned beef called silverside, so I learned something here today.
We love corned beef and cabbage.
((hugs))

I adore silverside and had a piece last week, cooked for hours in the crockpot.

Yep, it was Steve's memorial and I blubbed my eyes out. Great poem.

Really like the little sentence about the atheist, very profound.

Take care

Love and hugs, Robyn

Hi Merle I have just read your comments on Warrens' post. That has happened to me with the sentances running into each other. Annoying isn't it? I was able to edit the last time but had not been able to edit an earlier one myself. Love Margaret

It fascinates me how we speak the same language so differently. I'd never heard corned beef called silversides either but it fits.

Lovely post and funny jokes - as always.

Hi Merle, I see we have the old problem back, I tried to edit it for you but without the missing icons there wasn't much I could do.
So I changed your template hoping that might bring things back to normal but again no luck!!!
I've written to the blogger help group but haven't got anything back from them yet.
I can comment everywhere now complete with picture and everything, hope the same applies with you?

More fiddlin' about, your text is set out correctly and it's on your old new site, just smile and don't ask questions 'cos I don't have answers, enjoy.

Merle ~ SILVERSIDE = Corned Beef? Who knew? That would have been one of my last guesses! Some great quotes here too! ~ jb///

I love corned beef - but I'm the only one in my family that will eat it so I don't get it very often.

I liked Steve Irwin too. He was really neat.

I'm pleading temporary insanity. :)

Hi Merle
It was so touching when Bindi Irwin gave the eulogy.
May our good Lord comfort the family.
