Old Lady and Recipe.

Hi Everyone ~ It is Friday night here, so another

weekend looms. There is a big Grand Final Day of

Australian Rules football on in Melbourne tomorrow.

The same teams competed last year, West Coast and

Sydney, with Sydney becoming the Premiers.

So we will know by this time tomorrow who will be

Premiers for 2006. My son John barracks for West

Coast, as does Kathy who has commented here.

Jacqui from Bears Galore does too, but she was in

Germany last I heard and then heading for the U.S.

My Mum was a keen Swans supporter when they

played in Melbourne as South Melbourne. She took me

to quite a few matches to watch them when I was very

young, so I really don’t mind who wins, as someone will

be happy. I will enjoy watching it.

My recipe tonight is for a “Date and Nut Loaf”

¼ cup Chopped walnuts

1 cup Dates (chopped)

½ teaspoon baking soda

1 cup plain flour

½ cup Self raising flour

¾ cup sugar

1 oz butter (1 tablespoon)

1 egg

1 cup boiling water

Mix flours, sugar, walnuts, dates, and butter together;

add baking soda to boiling water and mix all together.

Beat egg separately and add to mixture.

Put in to 2 greased or sprayed Nut Loaf tins about 2/3 full

and bake in Moderate oven for 1 hour 180 C, 350 F.

I make this on occasion and it is very nice, sliced and

spread with some butter. If I make more than the

quantity here I have used large baked bean cans with both ends

taken off and foil used to seal them. It is easier to

get them out when cooked if both ends are off.

Puss in Boots sent me this today, and yes it fits me (too well)

WHEN I'M AN OLD LADY..

.
When I'm an old lady, I'll live with each kid,
And bring so much happiness...just as they did.

I want to pay back all the joy they've provided.
Returning each deed! Oh, they'll be so excited
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

I'll write on the wall with reds, whites and blues,
And I'll bounce on the furniture...wearing my shoes.
I'll drink from the carton and then leave it out.
I'll stuff all the toilets and oh, how they'll shout!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

When they're on the phone and just out of reach,
I'll get into things like sugar and bleach.
Oh, they'll snap their fingers and then shake their heads,
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

When they cook dinner and call me to eat,
I'll not eat my green beans or salad or meat,
I'll gag on my yoghurt, spill milk on the table,
And when they get angry...I'll run...if I'm able!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

I'll sit close to the TV, through the channels I'll click,
I'll cross both eyes just to see if they stick.
I'll take off my socks and throw one away,
And play in the mud 'til the end of the day!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

And later in bed, I'll lay back and sigh,
I'll thank God in prayer and then close my eyes.
My kids will look down with a smile slowly creeping,!
And say with a groan, "She's so sweet when she's sleeping!"

God Bless All Mums and Grandmas Everywhere!

I have a joke from the paper, and more of chidren’s

letters to God.

A woman was shocked to read the will of her recently

departed husband of 50 years.

“All my real and personal assets are to be used for my

funeral and burial service,” the will read.

“Everything that remains after that is to be spent on a

commemorative stone.”

The widow did have enough left to buy a magnificent stone.

Nine-and-a-half carats, set in white gold.!!!

Dear God, Of all the people who worked for you, I like

Noah and David best.

Dear God, I think about you sometimes, even when I’m not

praying.

Dear God, I bet it is hard for you to love all the people in the

world. There are only four people in my family and I can never do it.

Dear God, My brothers told me about being born, but it doesn’t sound right.

They are just kidding aren’t they?

Dear God, We read that Thomas Edison made light. But in

Sunday School, we learned that you did it. So I bet he stole

your idea.

Dear God, I didn’t think that orange went well with purple until

I saw the sunset you made on Tuesday. That was cool !!

One quote tonight - - Grow old along with me
The best is yet to be.

Robert Browning, English Poet.

Bye until tomorrow, Take care Friends, Cheers, Merle.

Too funny, the old poem.
I don't mind growing old,beats the alternative.
I once sent hubby a card that read, Let's grow old together, you go first.
Great post,loved it.

Merle, what did you mean by your son John barracks for West Coast? Just curious, as I have never heard to term.

The older lady has some bottled up issues...lol

I copied your recipe for Date Nut Loaf. It sounds like one my Mother used to make.
The poem is too funny. I wrote one similar for my best friend a few years ago.
Age is what our body does. Our spirit is forever young.

Hi Merle,
I have that recipe and it's a beauty, isn't it? A real good standby.

Love the kids' letters to God. Out of the mouths of babes, especially the one about the sunset.

Thank you for your emails, Merle. I look forward to getting them. Have a lovely weekend.

Love and hugs

Hi Merle, that old lady poem is good. Like Peter, I'm figuring on how to change it to old man. Then e-mail it to my kids. I might just tell them this works for old men too.
Keep your blonde jokes coming too.

Hi Merle,

The only bad thing about your poem WHEN I'M AN OLD LADY, is that when an old lady does do that, they usually end up in a resting home SADATED!

Hugs, Janice~

I just love "When I'm an Old Lady" Merle. I'm making a copy of that one.

So glad you really enjoy your football. It's fun to look forward to the games I know. I'm a big sports fan I use to watch a lot of basketball when the Chicago Bulls had Michael Jordan. I love watching football and baseball a lot. I grew up watching sports and can't imagine not enjoying rooting my teams on. Have a wonderful weekend Merle...
