Undefeated.

Hello again Folks - I hope all is well with you and your

families. All OK here. I took a taxi to the hairdresser

for a hair trim and blow wave, so I look much better.

Then I took another taxi to K Mart to get a few things

that I wanted and John picked me up later, after work.

It was nice to get out of the house for awhile, after

all the sad things on TV. I watched Terri Irwin talk

about her life with Steve and the kids, and what the

loss means to her. There was a horrific car smash in

Victoria on Monday with 7 people killed which is so

awful for their families.

And to add to the bad local news, last week we had a very

severe frost which has destroyed most of the fruit that

is grown in this area. That means great losses to the

growers, loss of work for the fruit-pickers and some loss

of work at the cannerys. They may import fruit, and the

prices will sky-rocket with the shortage, or total lack of

local fruit. So a bad deal all round.

I have selected a poem called “Undefeated”

Old ! Yes, with passing years that tell

How friends and youth depart;

So much of life’s illusions fled’

Yet young and fresh at heart,

Still with a faith and cheerfulness,

Like the days of youth;

Still holding hope and honour high

And prizing love and truth.

Lonely ! My home and empty nest,

Whence all the birds have flown;

So filled with music in the past,

Now no voice but my own.

Their happy memories fill my mind,

And stir my heart to try

To look around and find, and cheer,

Some lonelier souls than I.

Poor ! But with somewhat still to spare,

For others to be spent,

With food and raiment for my need,

A heart that holds content.

Joyful, for gifts within, without,

A wondrous world and green;

I wish my friends as good a life,

And glad as mine has been.

Afraid ! For age has fears, that leave

Their brand on face and brow;

For self and loved ones, and a world

Oft stirred with panic now,

But courage is their heritage

Who follow One who said ---

“Believe in Me ! Let not your heart

Be troubled --- nor afraid !”

Now for some jokes - - - Blonde ones !

*A Blonde enters a store that sells curtains.
She tells the salesman, "I would like to buy a pair of pink
curtains."
The salesman assures her that they have a large selection of
pink curtains.
He shows her several patterns, but the blonde seems to be having
a hard time choosing.
Finally she selects a lovely pink floral print.
The salesman then asks what size curtains she needs.
The blonde promptly replies, "fifteen inches."
"Fifteen inches???" asked the salesman. "That sounds very
small, what room are they for?"
The blonde tells him that they aren't for a room, they are for
her computer monitor.
The surprised salesman replies, "But Miss, computers do not
need curtains!"
The blonde says, "Hellllooooooooo. I've got Windows!"*

The blonde notices a sign in a travel agency window

reading “cruise Special --- $99”

So she walks in and lays her money down and demands the

$99 cruise.

The travel agent grabs her by the arm, drags her out the

back, ties her to an old inner tube and pushes her into the

river, where she floats away.

A few minutes later, a second blonde walks into the shop,

slams down her $99 on the counter and demands the $99

cruise special.

The agent grabs her as well, drags her out the back, ties her

to another inner tube and pushed her off into the river.

Downstream the two inner tubes and their passengers come

together.

“Do they serve refreshments on this cruise?” asks one blonde.

“They didn’t last year,” says the other.

why don’t you keep the ones you have now.

Dear God, Thank you for my baby brother, but what I prayed

Hi Merle, I really like this line;

“Do they serve refreshments on this cruise?” asks one blonde.

“They didn’t last year,” says the other.

Goodness! That isn't good news about
the severe frost and your fruit crops!
On a happier note, we enjoyed a great laugh at the blonde cruise joke!
Thanks for starting our morning off on a happy note!!

Happy to hear that you got yourself out and a new hair do to boot. Read your poem to my mum here and it related well to how she is feeling at the moment. Me too- only just because l am missing Daniel. Incidentally he called today to ask me about boiling pasta- help! Did l teach the boy nothing?? :)
Sorry to hear of the bad news about the produce- not good for the economics in the area no doubt. i hope you keep well dear lady.
Love the last quote and if you do not mind shall use it on my blog.
The very best to you xx

I watched Terri Irwin last night too Merle. My heart broke for her. I cried right along with her...such deep emotion just pouring out of her. She's an inspiration to a lot of people right now, and I hope she stays strong for herself and her kids.

Take care my friend...

Hey Merle :o)
I couldn't watch the interview with Terri Irwin, i just felt it would have been too emotional, i didn't want to see her pain :(
I hope channel 9 donated money to the Wildlife Warriors to gain that interview.
I heard about that awful crash in Donald...just dreadful :(

Ok enough sadness......what wonderful gourmet feast are you cooking up this weekend??

I missed the interview with Steve Irwin's wife but I know I would have been bawling! So very sad to see a family torn apart like that. What a shame about the frost...you just don't realize how many people it affects. Oh sure, pick on the blondes LOL...loved them though! lol I just loved the children's prayers...out of the mouth of babes!! Hugs xoxo

Hi Merle, glad you spent some quality time for yourself. I didn't watch the interview with Terri Irwin, just seeing the excerpts had me grabbing the tissues. A whole hour of gut wrenching sorrow would have been too much for me.

Love the Sara Henderson quote...sort of epitomises the woman herself, don't you think. A real head down and get on with it attitude.

Awful tragedy in Donald. Victoria has had a horror holiday toll, this year, hasn't it? 38 people in the last two weeks! Appalling.

Anywy, dear Merle, glad you enjoyed your day out.

Hugs to you
Love
Robyn xoxo

Awfulabout the accident.

We're the "breadbasket" of the USA in many respects so when the weather plays tricks, we all suffer.

Merle, Steve Irwin's wife had me in tears too, so heartwrenching what her little boy said, in that he wished he could get sick so he could go to heaven to be with his Daddy. Big "crocodile tear".

Love your blond jokes both of them "windows" and the "cruise" second time. lol very funny. hehe!

Hi, Merle, I just today discovered your birthday greeting from MOnday. Thanks for stopping by! Yes, those ones with the 0 on the end seem to be significant. Next year, though, I'll be 60, my husband will be 65, and we'll celebrate our 35th anniversary. We figure with 3 such biggies, we ought to do something major. Hopefully back to Hawaii after 10 years. Have a great day!!
