Post 57 - - - - - Saturday, 4th October, 2006.
Hello Everyone, back with you once more, after a day off.
I have been busy doing some cooking, chicken casserole and
heaps of vegetables, so won’t have to cook for a few days.
I also made a Zucchini Quiche to have with salads for my
evening meal. I like to have the main meal during the day.
Today I had a nice surprise, the daughter of a cousin and her
son had to come to Shepparton on business, so after going
to the Ardmona/SPC Factory Outlet, they came for a visit.
It was really nice to see them and each of them helped with
the last couple of words in my Saturday Crossword. (They can
come again, preferrably on a Saturday). I usually can get it
out myself, but there were a few difficult clues today.
Another cousin has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, so I
have been worried about him. We find out next week what, if
any, treatment will be necessary. He has been my favorite male cousin since I was a teenager, and that is a very long time
ago. I guess it is obvious that I am very fond of my cousins,
as I was of my aunts and uncles who are no longer with us.
Now to find something to post - - -
Found a nice verse called “In Grandma’s Day.”
Grandmother, on a Winter’s day,
Milked the cows, and fed them hay;
Fed the hogs, saddled the mule,
And got the children off to school.
<><><>
Did a washing, mopped the floors,
Washed the windows and did some chores;
Cooked a dish of home-dried fruit,
Press her husband’s Sunday suit.
<><><>
Swept the parlour, made the bed,
Baked a dozen loaves of bread;
Split some firewood and lugged it in
Enough to fill the kitchen bin.
<><><>
Cleaned the lamps and put in oil,
Stewed some apples she thought would spoil;
Churned the butter, baked a cake,
Then exclaimed, “ For mercy’s sake,”
<><><>
“The calves have all got out of the pen !”
Went out and chased them in again;
Gathered the eggs and locked the stable,
Back to the house and set the table.
<><><>
Cooked a supper that was delicious,
And afterwards washed up all the dishes.
Fed the cat and sprinkled the clothes,
Mended a basket full of hose.
<><><>
Then opened the organ and began to play
“When you come to the end of a perfect day.”

Lawyer at the Pearly Gates.
One day a teacher, a garbage collector and a lawyer wound up
together at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter informed them that in order to get into Heaven, they would each have to answer one question. St. Peter asked the teacher, “What was the name of the ship that crashed into an iceberg?” The teacher answered
quickly, “That would be the Titanic.” St. Peter let him in through the gate, then turned to the garbage collector and he
decided to make the question a little harder. “How many people
died on the ship?” Fortunately for him, the trash man had seen the movie and answered, “About 1,500.”
“That’s right. You may enter.”
St. Peter then turned to the lawyer, “Name them.”
Maybe that is why there were no lawyers in Heaven to sue the
Devil for not fixing the Gate hinge !!!
Blind man in Texas.
There once was a blind man who decided to visit Texas. When he arrived on the plane, he felt the seats and said, “Wow, these seats are big.” The person next to him said, “Everything is big in Texas.”
When he finally arrived in Texas, he decided to visit a bar, where he ordered a beer and got a mug placed between his hands. He exclaimed, “Wow, these mugs are big !:
The bartender said, “Everything is big in Texas.”
After a couple of beers, the blind man asked the bartender where the bathroom was located. “Second door to the right,” the bartender replied.
The blind man headed for the bathroom, but accidently tripped over and skipped the second door. Instead he entered the third door, which lead to the swimming pool and fell into the pool by accident. Scared to death, the blind man started
shouting, “Don’t flush, don’t flush !!”

Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resouces Person asked a young engineer who was fresh out of MIT,
“What starting salary were you thinking about?”
The engineer said, “ In the neighborhood of $125,000 a year,
depending on the benefits package.”
The interviewer said, “Well what would you say to a package of 5 weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental,
company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a
company car leased every 2 years – say a red Corvette ?”
The engineer sat up straight and said, “ Wow ! Are you kidding?
The interviewer said, “Yeah, but you started it.”

Hi Merle, say hi to Bill for me when you talk to him next, hope everything goes smoothly for him.
What was the attraction at Mt. beauty for John, Darts or Fishing?
Our families are such a precious part of life. "Life's greatest riches have nothing to do with money." - so true, it's relationships. ec
Dear Merle...I always love coming to your blog and see what you have for us every day:-) I'm still laughing at the blind man falling in the pool, thinking it's the toilet! hehe Loved all the jokes...the Knock Knock one was one of the very first ones I remember learning as a child! lol How wonderful to get a surprise visit from your cousin's daughter & son...it's lovely that you're so close to your family! I'm very sorry to hear about your other cousin having just found out he has prostate cancer...my prayers are with him! Take care my friend xoxo
Hi Merle
That poem "In Grandma's Day" reminded me of when we lived on the farm, right down to the calves getting into the garden because someone had not shut the gate properly! Generally, it was when I had planted seedling vegetables in the vege garden and the calves would galumph up and down and all over them. I would not be happy and would give the culprit what for - and it was not necessarily one of the kids, either!
Great post, as usual. I'm am sorry to hear of your cousin and I hope all goes well with him.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Hugs to you, Merle. xoxo
HI Merle

Grandma's day and the blind man got my vote.
Take care Keep smiling.
Merle,
I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin. Cancer of any sort is just a beast!
Loved the verse in Grandma's day.
Enjoy your weekend!
((hugs))
Merle, I am so glad you enjoyed your cousin's son's visit. I will pray for your favorite cousin to have a good prognosis.
I also love to do crossword puzzles. One day, and expert explained that if you have x number of dark squares at the bottom of the puzzle you had to have the same at the top, same with left and right. Then he went on to say that as the week progressed the puzzles got harder and harder. I got a kick out of this cause I always thought it was from lack of sleep that I typically did worse as the week came to an end. hehe!
Loved In Grandma's Time, Lawyer at the Pearly Gates. Blind Man in Texas was so histerical!
Thinking of you. Hope your cousin receives some good news.
A hug from England
