Maya Angelou.

Post 132 - - - - - Sunday, 4 th February, 2007.

Howdy Everyone ~~ I hope the world is treating you well and that you are enjoying
the weekend. Mine is almost over, at 9.30 pm Sunday. It has been hot again and the
power went off again, but I survived. My son, John had been away at Corryong, Vic.
on a motor-cycle ride with the club he goes with and they went up to the mountains
and saw lots of burnt areas. I was so glad when he rang to say he was home, as it was
too hot to be out and about. He came to see my later in the afternoon and I met him at the door with "the power if off" so he nearly went home again!!

I am watching cricket again - Aust v. New Zealand. We were beaten the other night by England, who have won very, very little this tour. We look like having a win tonight.

The piece I am posting was sent to me , once again by Linda.

In April, Maya Andelou was interviewed by Oprah on her 70 th birthday.
Oprah asked her what she thought of growing older. And there on television, she said it was "exciting." Regarding body changes ... she said there were many, occurring every day. . . . like her breasts. They seem to be in a race to see which will reach her waist first.

The audience laughed so hard, they cried. She is such a simple woman, with so much wisdom in her words !

Maya Andelou said this :

Three guys were fishing in a lake one day, when an angel appeared in the boat.

When the three astonished men had settled down enough to speak, the first guy asked the angel humbly, "I've suffered from back pain ever since I took shrapnel in the Vietnam War . . . . Could you help me?"

"Of course," said the angel and when he touched the man's back, the man felt relief for the first time in years.

The second guy who wore very thick glasses and had a hard time reading and driving.
He asked if the angel could do anything about his poor eyesight. The angel smiled,
removed the man's glasses and tossed them into the lake. When they hit the water,
the man's eyes cleared and he could see everything distinctly.

When the angel turned to the third guy, the guy put his hands out defensively ----
"Don't touch me !!" he cried, "I'm on a disability pension."

The poor Beartown Pastor was livid when he confronted his wife with a $225.00
receipt for a new dress she had just purchased. "What made you do this?" he asked.

"I don't know," se wailed. " I was standing in the store looking at the dress. Then I found myself trying it on. It was like the Devil was whispering to me, "Wow, you look
great in that dress. You should buy it !!"

"Well," the Pastor persisted, "You know how to deal with him! Just tell him, "Get
behind me, Satan !' "

"I did," replied the wife, "But then he said "It looks great from the back too !!" "

A blonde was visiting Washington, DC for the first time. She wanted to see the Capitol building. Unfortunately, she couldn't find it, so she asked a police officer for
directions. "Excuse me, officer, how do I get to the Capitol building?"

The officer replied, "Wait here at this bus stop for the number 54 bus. It will take you
right there." She thanked the officer and he drives off.

Three hours later the police officer returned to the same area and sure enough, the
blonde is still waiting at the same bus stop.

The officer got out of his car and said, "Excuse me, but to get to the Captol building, I said to wait here for the number 54 bus and that was three hors ago! Why are you
still waiting?"

The blonde replied, " Don't worry, officer, it won't be long now . . . .te 45th bus just
went by !!"

Hanging on a rope. (A rope for ten)

There were 11 people hanging on to a single rope that suspended them from a helicopter trying to bring them to safety. Ten were men; one was a woman.

They all decided that one person would have to let go because if they didn't, the rope
would break and they would all die.

No one could decide who it should be. Finally the woman gave a really touching
speech, saying how she would give up her life to save the others, because women were used to giving things up for their husbands and children and giving in to men.

Then all the men clapped !!!

Hi Merle!
I am glad John made it back safely.
Yikes on the power outages!
It feels so strange to say stay cool.
We are ffffrrreeezing here and it is kkkkkkcold. -25°F(-32°C)Wind Chill: -43°F (-42°C) Funny how the F and C turn close to the same number this cold. No woories mate we are in the house and warm. The fuel oil is burning away.
Enjoy your cricket game.

Dear Merle .
Oh it was another hot day, we didnt loose power so was able to have air con going all day.
I think we can all learn a little from Maya.laughed at her breasts having a race. great jokes and quotes. Keep cool (((HUGS))) Jan

Great post Merle, Maya Angelou is a font of wisdom but very funny with it.

Danny Kaye...as kids we used to love his stories and comedy. A very clever man.

Hi merle.hope it cools down for you again.here its very cold.was 18 below.and that is too cold.I almost frose my butt off when I went out today.the wind was just cutting through my coat.have a good day and gret week.God bless.

Very nice, Merle. Maybe that blonde waiting for number 54 bus has dislexia and her 45 should have been 54?
Hot weather isn't any time to be having power outages. Are they rotating brown-outs like they do in the midwest and east and west in the U.S. or really have a broken system?
I think California here always uses too much A/C.

You get power outages because of the heat, we're getting them because of the cold! lol Another frigid day here...but at least the days are getting longer so we have that to thank for:-)

Glad your son made it back safely, as you say with that kind of heat you really shouldn't be doing anything streneous!

Loved the jokes and quotes...that Pastor one about the dress just had me laughing out loud! I'll have to use that excuse next time! LOL

I hope your power is back on by now. I can't imagine anyplace being too hot right now since it's about 4 degrees here today.

Goodness me how did you manage to get beaten by England?!! I don't follow cricket myself but I've heard about how rubbish the team is at the moment.
