The Teacher's Story.

Post 153 - - - - - - Wednesday, 28 th February, 2007.

Howdy Folks ~~ How is the world treating you all today? I hope everything is going well for you all. I am fine, but ---- They did it again --- The receptionist from
the urologist rang and made an appointment for Friday. So I will learn more then about how we proceed with this little problem. I still feel quite well, so am not
too worried.

Tonight's story is called "The Teacher Story" written by Barbara Glanz.
The Life Changing Gift of Appreciation.

As I speak about appreciation, I use this quote by Albert Schweitzer :

"Sometimes our light goes out but is blown again into flame by an encounter with
another human being. Each of us owes the deepest thanks to those who have
rekindled this inner light."

Then I ask my audience to please shut their eyes and think about someone, who at some time in their lives, has rekindled their inner light. I leave the room in silence for several minutes, and it is always a profound experience as they remember the JOY they received from being appreciated by someone when they needed it most.

Afterwards, I ask them to write down the name of the person they thought of and to
commit to their own act of appreciation letting that person know in the next 72 hours
that he or she was thought of. I suggest a phone call, a note, or even a little prayer if they are no longer living.

After one moving session, a gentleman came up to talk with me and thanked me for
creating a new awareness in him. He said he thought of his eighth grade literature
teacher because she was everyone's favorite teacher, and had really made a difference in all their lives. He planned to track his teacher down and let me know what
happened.

One afternoon nearly two and a half months later I received a call from him. He was
choked up on the phone and could hardly get through his story. He said that it had
taken him nearly two months to track his teacher down, and when he found her, he wrote to her. The following week he received this letter :

Dear John,
You will never know how much your letter meant to me. I am 83 years old, and I am living all alone in one room. My friends are all gone. My family's gone. I taught
50 years and yours is the first "thank you" letter I have ever gotten from a student.
Sometimes I wonder what I did with my life. I will read and reread your letter until
the day I die.

He just sobbed on the phone. He said, "She is always the one we talk about at every
reunion. She was everyone's favorite teacher - we loved her ! But no one had ever
told her . . . . Until she received his letter.

Epitaph Adjustment.

A new widow requested the epitaph "Rest in Peace" for her husband's tombstone.
When she later found he had left his fortune to his mistress, she attempted to get the engraver to change the carving. This was impossible; the words were chiseled
and could not be changed.

"In that case," she said, "please add "Till We Meet Again."

A young man wants to get his beautiful blonde wife something nice for their first
wedding anniversary, so he decides to buy her a cell phone. She is all excited -- she loves her phone. He shows it to her and explains the features
on the phone.

The next day the blonde goes shopping. her phone rings and it's her husband.

"Hi Hon," he says. "How do you like your new phone?"

She replies, "I just love it; it's so small and your voice is clear as a bell. But there's
one thing I don't understand, though."

"What's that, Baby?" asks the husband.

"How did you know I was at Walmart?"

Deep Thoughts about Pigs and Sheep.

Do you think sheep know when you are pulling the wool over their eyes?

Does the person who inventories sheep often fall asleep on the job?

If a pig is sold to a pawn shop, is it then called a ham-hock?

If you pushed a pig down a hill, would he be a sausage roll?

What do pigs say when they don't want to do something? Would it be "Yeah,
when human's fly?

What do sheep count when they can't get to sleep?

Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

Why is it that only pigs and humans can get sunburn?

Why is it that the first thing we do after killing a pig that we cure it?

Would a small pig be called a hamlet?

Male Emotion.

One night a wife found her husband standing over their baby's crib. Silently she
watched him. As he stood looking down at the sleeping infant, she saw on his face a mixture of emotions: disbelief, doubt, delight, amazement, enchantment, and
skepticism.

Touched by this unusual display and the deep emotions it aroused, with eyes that
were glistening she slipped her arm around her husband.

"A penny for your thoughts," she said.

"It's amazing!" he replied. "I just can't see how anybody can make a crib like that
for only $46.50."

Punctuation.

An English professor wrote the words, "woman without her man is nothing" on the
blackboard and directed the students to punctuate it correctly.

The men wrote : " Woman, without her man, is nothing."

The women wrote : " Woman! Without her, man is nothing."

Hi Merle, sorry to hear that you are having a few problems, I hope they get them sorted out soon. I know what trips to the hospital are like and they aren't fun at anytime. Bob.

Good morning dear Merle:-) Glad to hear that an appointment has now been made...you'll soon find out what needs to be done now! I so enjoyed "The Teacher Story"...makes you want to get in contact with the teachers and thank them!! So many times we take people for granted and don't realize that they've never been thanked for what they did for you. I'm still laughing at the blonde with the new cell phone! lol Take care dear friend! xoxo

The teacher story was very moving, it's so easy forget to show appreciation. As usual enjoyed everything particularly 'punctuation'
Hope all goes well for you on the medical front.

I liked the "teacher' story too. I guess we all must have had one 'special' teacher.

Hi Merle, well I made it to Adelaide in very good time, due in part to the forced extra 300 miles on day 1.
Only Vicki, Jacqui and I here last night theres 9 or 10 over the next couple of nights , so the party will warm up some.
All rested and ready to go after a good nights sleep.
See you pretty soon.

I have another go-round with my doctor tomorrow. It's a new doc, so I think he's going to need some breaking in. Best of luck to both of us, eh.

Good stories and jokes, as always. My father took a senior tour to Florida and the tour guide leader said he was always looking for good jokes and stories. So my dad gave him MY blog site!? I wish he would have given him your's instead.

Hope things come out well on Friday, I have a visit on Thursday that may tell me a lot about my condition. The teacher story was a moving, motivating one that has me searching my past for someone to thank for guiding me. ec

A nice post. Now if pigs really could fly, maybe humans could too?

Best wishes on your doctor visit. I know you will be glad to find out whatever there is to find out.
Mrs. Jim went to the doctor yesterday after a CT Scan. That growth on her jaw has come back.
