The Nails.

Post 185 - - - - - Monday, 16 th April, 2007.

Hi Everyone ~~ I'm back home again and although I had a great holiday and enjoyed every day of it, it is always nice to get back home. I have missed you all
and hope all is well with you and your families. Thanks for all the comments on
my previous posts, that are always appreciated. I hope to get around to reading
about what you have all been doing in the next day or so. I have some catching
up to do !!

My son Geoff and his wife, Jo came up the night before Good Friday and stayed.
The next day we went to get a trailer load of wood for their woodfire, and then
went off to my cousin, Michelle's home in Bacchus Marsh, which is only half an
hour from their home in Sunbury. Thanks very much Geoff and Jo.!!

As we both live alone, we had lots of talking and catching up, looking at lots of
photographs. Visiting other relatives, going shopping and looking around the
town of Bacchus Marsh. It is a very old town with lots of history, lots of trees
making it a very pretty town. It was discovered by Captain Bacchus and is like
a basin surrounded by hills, and there are numurous market gardens there in
a fertile valley, first called Marsh. Very peaceful and lovely place.

Michelle brought me home and stayed a couple of nights, and is now safely
home. Her "new" house is very nice and comfortable with lots of great
features, including a lovely large built in back porch, where she has a table
and chairs, pot plants etc and tons of room. We had three of our cousins visit
one day and we all enjoyed our lunch out there. It was great to see them also.
Thank you so much Michelle for a lovely week !! Hi Jeanne, Bill and Pam !!

Tonight I have a short story called "The Nails" sent by my friend Linda.
Thank you Linda.

There once was a little boy who had a very bad temper. His father gave him
a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer
a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day, the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few
weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails he hammered
daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper
than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally, the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his
father about it and the father suggested that he now pull out one nail for
each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young
boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, "You
have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will
never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like
this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how
many times you say "I'm sorry" the wound is still there.

A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Friends are very rare jewels,
indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an
ear, they share words of praise, and they always want to open their hearts to
us." It's National Friendship Week, so show your friends how much you care.
And to your family, "Please forgive me if I ever left a hole."

A few jokes sent by my friend Sandy . Hope you enjoy. Thanks Sandy.

A very elderly gentleman (mid 90s) very well dressed and well groomed,
great suit and presenting a well looked after image, walks into an update
cocktail lounge. Seated
at the bar is an elderly lady in her mid 80s.
The gentleman walks over, sits alongside of her, orders a drink, takes a
sip, turns to her and says, "So, tell me, do I come here often?"
<><><>

An elderly gentleman had serious hearing problems for a number of years.
He went to the doctor and he was fitted for new hearing aids, that allowed
him to hear 100%

He went back to the doctor in a month and the doctor said, "You're hearing
is perfect. Your family must be really pleased you can hear again."

The gentleman replied, "Oh, I haven't told my family yet. I just sit around
and listen to the conversations. I've changed my will 3 times !!"
<><><>

Two elderly gentlemen from a retirement center were sitting on a bench
under a tree when one turns to the other and says, "Slim, I'm 83 years
old and I am just full of aches and pains. I know you are about my age,
so how do you feel ?"

Slim says, "I feel just like a newborn baby. No hair, no teeth and I think
I just wet my pants !"
<><><>

Hospital regulations requre a wheelchair for patients being discharged.
However, while working as a student nurse, I found one elderly man --
already dressed and sitting on a bed with a suitcase at his feet, insisting
that he did not need a wheelchair. After a chat about rules being rules, he
reluctantly let me wheel him to the elevator.

On the way, I asked if his wife was meeting him. "I don't know," he said,
She's still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her hospital gown !!"
<><><>

Three old guys out walking. First one says, "Windy isn't it ?"

Second guy, "No, it's Thursday."

Third guy says, "So am I. Let's have a drink."
<><><>

A man was telling his neighbor, "I just bought a new hearing-aid. It cost
me $4000, but it's state of the art. It's perfect."

"Really, answered his neighbor. "What kind is it ?"

"Twelve -thirty."

Good to have you back, Merle! I hope you've had a chance to watch some of the fantastic game last weekend, especially the second half. Don't worry, I yelled and barracked enough for the two of us.

Welcome home Merle:-) You sure have been missed my friend! Sounds like you had a fabulous time with your family...as we get older it just seems more important to spend as much time as we can with them!

I loved the Nail Story...so true, words said in anger can hurt more than an actual physical wound. I'm still laughing at the one of the old man not having told his family that he can hear now! lol All of them were so funny!

Take care of yourself and really good to have you back:-) xoxo

Welcome back, Merle. We all have been missing you while you were out having a good time visiting.

You sure lit in on those poor old men this time, didn't you? Just for that I will boycott Sandy for a month. [They were funny, at the old men's expense.]
