Cure for Sorrow.

Post 216 - - - - - Wednesday, 30th May, 2007.

Hello My Friends ~~ I hope the world is treating you well
and that life is good. Well it is better than the alternative !!
I am fine, had a quiet day, spent some of it sweeping up the
Autumn (Fall) leaves that a strong wind blew all around the
place. We got just over an inch of rain, which was terrific.

Tonight I have a little story called "Cure for Sorrow" by
Brian Cavanaugh, T.O.R., The Sower's Seeds.

There is an old Chinese tale about a woman whose only son
died. In her grief, she went to the holy man and said, "What
prayers, what magical incantations do you have to bring my
son back to life ?"

Instead of sending her away or reasoning with her, he said to
her, "Fetch me a mustard seed from a home that has never
known sorrow. We will use it to drive the sorrow out of your life."
The woman went off at once in search of that magical mustard seed.

She came to a splendid mansion, knocked at the door, and said,
"I am looking for a home that has never known sorrow. Is this
such a place ? It is very important to me."

They told her, "You've certainly come to the wrong place, and
began to describe all the tragic things that had recently befallen
them.

The woman said to herself, "Who is better able to help these
poor unfortunate people than I, who have had misfortune of
my own ?" She stayed to comfort them, then went on in search
of a home that had never known sorrow. But wherever she
turned, in hovels and in other places, she found one tale after
another of sadness and misfortune.

She became so involved in ministering to other people's grief
that ultimately she forgot about her quest for the magical
mustard seed, never realizing that it had, in fact, driven the
sorrow out of her life.

The Bear and two travelers. Author Unknown.

Two men were traveling together, when a Bear suddenly met
them on their path. One of them quickly climbed into a tree
and concealed himself in the branches.

The other, seeing that he must ne attacked, fell flat on the
ground, and when the Bear came up and felt him with his
snout, and smelt him all over, he held his breath, and feigned
the appearance of death as much as he could. The Bear soon
left him, for it is said he will not touch a dead body.

When he was quite gone, the other traveler descended from the
tree, and jocularly inquired of his friend what it was the Bear
had whispered in his ear.

"He gave me this advice," his companion replied, "Never travel
with a friend who deserts you at the approach of danger."

A blonde called up a police station, "Steering wheel, dash board,
gear rod and music system of my car have all been stolen."

After some time, she calls again, "Sorry to disturb you. Nothing
was stolen, in fact I was sitting on the back seat."
<><>

Interviewer: "Why did you leave your last job ?"
Blonde : I didn't leave that job. The company shifted it's office
and didn't tell me where.
<><>

Lady to blonde police inspector :
"My husband went to buy potatos five
days ago, he hasn't come back yet !!"
Blonde : "Why don't you cook something else ?"
<><>

A guy's going on a business trip and he has to take his
secretary with him, and she's really crazy about him. The
first night on the Amtrak, she's in the top bunk and he's in
the bottom bunk. She says, "Mr. Forsythe. I'm chilly !!
I think I need another blanket"

He says, "Miss Schmitt, how'd you like to pretend you're
Mrs. Forsythe for a little while ?"
She says, " Oh, I'd like that."
He says, " Then get your own blanket !!"
<><>

A guy's on the electric chair. The warden is about to pull
the switch when the guy gets the hiccups. The warden says,
"Do you have any last requests ?" The guy says, (hic) Yeah
. . .(hic) could you please do something to scare me ?"
<><>

A guy goes to a girl's house for the first time, and she shows
him into the living room. She excuses herself to go to the
kitchen to make some drinks for them and as he's standing
there alone, he notices a cute little vase on the mantel. He
picks it up, and as he's looking at it, she walks back in.
He says, "What's this ?" She says, "Oh, my father's ashes
are in there." He goes, "Jeez . . .oooh . . .I . . ."
She says, "Yeah, he's too lazy to go to the kitchen to get an
ashtray."

Bye for now Folks. Stay well and happy. Be kind to each
other. Love and best wishes to all Merle.

Hi I love stories like that. I collect "proverbs" - not for the sake of it, obviously but when they ring true.
"He who chases two rabbits will cath neither one" is one I can apply to my life.
I saw you comment on Ruth's Garden blog and thought I would say hi. Do you know I hardly know anyone on the internet from Australia? Which always strikes me as 1/2 my family's from Sidney...ooer should that be "Sydney"? Also when I check my "traffic" I get hardly any Aussie hits either. I don't know why....
Anyway before this turns into ramble I wanted to say basically I'm glad I found your blog. I will come back here!
All the best
take care

Hi Merle -- I'm glad you got that rain. You sure do need it and more!
I liked your blonde jokes. Did you know that bleached blondes are just as dippy as the born-that-color blondes? That is from my own observation.

The cure for sorrow is wonderful. What a great lesson for all of us.
I'm so glad you finally got a little rain.
We are getting lots of sun right now and it's warm out there. I am doing yard work in the mornings and late evening after it's cooled off.
