Under Our Skin.

Post 211 - - - - - Wednesday, 23rd May, 2007.

Howdy Everyone ~~ I hope things are going well for you
as they are for me. My only complaint is there are not
enough hours in the day. It is well after midnight , so this
will be a quick post. I made up a dozen meals today, the
chicken casserole, and some lamb chops, heaps of vegies.
My younger son, Geoff and his wife Joanne are coming up
for a visit, for my birthday and to get some firewood.

I have a short item called "Under Our Skin."

There once was an oyster, whose story I tell ;
Who found that some sand had gotten into his shell.

It was only a grain, but it gave him great pain;
For oysters have feelings, although they are plain.

Now did he berate the harsh workings of fate,
That had brought him to such a deplorable state.

"No," he said to himself, "Since I cannot remove it,
I'll lie in my shell, and think how to improve it."

The years rolled around, as the years always do,
And he came to his ultimate Destiny . . . stew.

Now the small grain of sand that had bothered him so,
Was a beautiful pearl all richly aglow.

This tale has a moral, for isn't it grand,
What an oyster can do with a morsel of sand ?

Think . . .. What could WE do, if we'd only begin,
With some of the things that get under OUR skin.

Another of Warrens jokes. Thanks Warren.

A teacher gave her class of 11 year olds an assignment :
Get their parents to tell them a story with a moral at the
end of it. Next day, the kids came back and one by one
began to tell their stories.

Karl said, "My father's a farmer and we have a lot of egg
laying chooks. (chickens) One time we were taking our
eggs to market in a basket on the front seat of the car when
we hit a big bump in the road and all the eggs went flying
and broke and made a mess."

"What's the moral of the story ?" asked the teacher.

:Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
"Very good," said the teacher.

Next little Emilie raised her hand and said, "Our family
are farmers too. But we raise chooks for the meat market.
One day we had a dozen eggs, but when they hatched we
only got ten live chicks and the moral of this story is :

"Don't count your chickens until they are hatched."
That's a fine story Emilie. Mick do you have a story to share?

"Yes. My dad told me this story about my Aunty Sharon.
Aunty Sharon was a flight engineer on a plane in the Gulf
War and her plane got hit. She had to bail out over enemy
territory and all she had was 3 bottles of rum, a machine gun
and a machete.

She drank all the rum on the way down so it wouldn't break
and then she landed right in the middle of 100 troops.

She killed seventy of them with the machine gun until she ran
out of bullets. Then she killed twenty more with the machete
until the blade broke. And then she killed the last ten with her
bare hands."

"Good heavens," said the horrified teacher, "what kind of moral
did your father tell you from that horrible story ?"

"Stay well away from Aunty Sharon when she's been on the grog.

I borrowed this lovely quote from Granny Ann's blog - - -

Live Simply; Love Generously; Care Deeply;
Speak Kindly and Leave the Rest to God.

I am off to bed folks and when I wake tomorrow
I will be 73 -- Yikes, should get some respect for that
I reckon. Look after yourselves and each other.
Love and Best Wishes to one and all. Cheers, Merle.

Wishing you a Happy Birthday and a wonderful year to go with it. You keep us all amused and thinking. Although not far behind you I am still at work because I want to be and I followed a van in the other day which had this painted on the back, I thought you might like it.
Love a lot, Trust a few, but always paddle your own canoe. Best wishes.

Hi Merle!!

Ya know what I did today? I read clear through your blog's page! Yep, I sure did!! I always enjoy everything you have to share with us!

But the ONE THING that struck me as I read, and I must comment on, is that you are a cancer survivor of 28 years!!!!!

That in itself is miraculous and great for us who consider you a friend!!!

Hi Merle.
I can honestly say you have surely
gotten under my skin and I wouldn't have it any other way,
'HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY" dear Merle
and we will be there soon for Jan& my lunch date with you.xoxo
P.S.My driver took the wrong turn on the way down to Joanne's.
Needless to say I'm not paying for the trip..
When she told me that she drives better in the day light I thought
this is ok because we left in
day light not thinking it would be "DARK" when we arrived.
We are both sitting at Joanne's computer after 2or3 brandy's
laughing our heads off now just about to head off to bed,xx
