Mean Mothers.

Post 278 - - - - - - Monday, 6th August, 2007.

G' Day Everyone ~~ I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the start
of another week. I am fine, and have the big fortnightly shopping day on
tomorrow, so I have to write out a list for that later. Think, Merle !!

Some more old photos for you today.

Another cute one of my Dad - very young.

My Dad on the left and his brother, Uncle Roy.
They had swapped jackets for the photo. Dad
drove double decker buses and my uncle was
a soldier in W.W.2. There were 6 boys in the
family, none of them with us now.

Dad and his mother in the 1950 s.

An early photo of my father 's parents and 4 of their sons.
Grandma and Grandpa look quite good = I never knew my
grandfather, but luckily knew Grandma until my teenage years.

First tonight was sent by my friend Linda. Thanks Linda. Enjoy.
It is called "Mean Mothers."

Someday when my children are old enough to understand the logic that
motivates a parent, I will tell them, as my Mean Mother told me: I loved
you enough . . to ask where you were going, with whom, and what time
you'd be home.

I loved you enough to be silent and let you discover that your new
best friend was a creep.

I loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned
your room, a job that should have taken 15 minutes.

I loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment, and tears in
my eyes. Children must learn that their parents aren't perfect.

I loved you enough to let you assume the responsibility for your
actions even when the penalties were so harsh they almost broke
my heart.

But most of all, I loved you enough . . . to say NO when I knew you
would hate me for it.

Those were the most difficult battles of all. I'm glad I won them,
because in the end you won too.
And someday when your children are old enough to understand
the logic that motivates parents, you will tell them.

Was your Mum mean? I know mine was. We had the meanest
mother in the whole world! While other kids ate lollies for
breakfast, we had to have cereal, eggs and toast.
When others had a Pepsi/Coke and a Wagon Wheel for lunch,
we had to eat sandwiches.

And you can guess our mother fixed us a dinner that was
different from what the other kids had.

Mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times. You'd think
we were convicts in a prison. She had to know who are friends were
and what we were doing with them. She insisted that if we said we
would be gone for an hour, we would be gone for an hour or less.

We were ashamed to admit it, but she had the nerve to break the
Child Labor Laws by making us work. We had to wash the dishes,
make the beds, learn to cook, vacuum the floors, do washing and
empty the garbage and all sorts of cruel jobs. I think she would stay
awake at night thinking of more things for us to do.

She always insisted on us telling the truth, the whole truth, and
nothing but the truth. By the time we were teenagers, she could
read our minds and had eyes in the back of her head. Then life was
really tough !

Mother wouldn't let our friends just honk the horn when they drove
up. They had to come to the door so she could them. While everyone
else could date when they were 12 or 13, we had to wait intil we were 16+.

Because of our mother we missed out on lots of things other kids
experienced. None of us have ever been caught shop-lifting, vandalizing
other's property or ever arrested for any crime. It was all her fault.

Now that we have left home, we are all educated, honest adults. We are
doing our best to be mean parents just like Mum was.

I think that is what is wrong with the world today. It just doesn't have
enough mean mothers !!.

Next is a Health Warning from my friend Warren. Thanks Warren.

Bottled water kept in the car.

This is how Sheryl Crow got breast cancer - she was on the Ellen
show and said the same exact thing. So be careful ladies.

A friend whose mother recently got diagnosed with breast cancer.
The doctor told her women should not drink bottled water that has
been left in a car.
The doctor said the heat and the plastic of the
bottle have certain chemicals that can lead to breast cancer.

So please be careful and do not drink that bottle of water that has
been left in the car and pass this on to all the women in your life.
This info is the kind we need to know and just might save us !!

The heat causes toxins from the plastic bottles to leak into the
water and they have found those toxins in breast tissue. Use a
stainless Steel canteen or a glass bottle when you can !!

We need some jokes now folks - - -

When a patient came to after an operation he noticed that a screen
had been placed round his bed.

"What's the idea of the screen?" he asked. "Didn't you expect me to
recover?"

"Oh, it's not that," said the doctor, "You see during the operation, the
premises opposite caught fire and burst into flames and we didn't
want you to think the worst had happened."

Three lunatics were working on a building site, supposedly digging a
trench. After a few hours
the foreman came along and was surprised
to find one of the men digging furiously while the other two were
standing motionless, their shovels in the air, and claiming they were
both lamp-posts, The foreman sacked the two men immediately and
told them to go home. But the man in the trench also stopped work.

"It's all right," said the foreman, "I haven't fired you. You were working
very well, so carry on."

"How?" asked the man. "How do you expect me to work in the dark ?"
<><>

The box of mothballs I bought last week aren't very good. The house
is still full of moths. Every time I throw a mothball at them, they fly
out of the way and I've only managed to hit one.
<><>

Two dogs were walking along the pavement. Suddenly one dog stopped
and said, "My name is Bonzo. What's your name?"

The other dog scratched and thought for a bit and the replied,
"Well, I think it is Get Down Boy."
<><>

Two nuns from the local convent found it necessary to make a visit
to town to do a little late shopping for some essential items.
Arriving at the super store they found there was no place to park
their red Mini as the park was full. It was decided that one nun
should go and do the shopping, while the other drove around
until she could return to pick up her friend.

The shopping done, the first nun stood by the main road, eyes
straining to look for her friend. Just then a man was about to pass
by when the nun with the shopping stopped him.

"Excuse me," she said, Have you seen a nun in a red Mini?"
"Not since I took the pledge," she was told.

Vicar : "Now tell me Freda, How many times a day do you say
your prayers?"
Four year old Freda : "Once sir, At night."
Vicar : "But don't you say any prayers through the day?"
Freda : "No sir. I'm only frightened at night."

My mean Mom taught me well because one day my youngest nephew was throwning a tantrum and Puppy told him "Good thing you do not have my Mom". Puppy secretly (NOT) referred to me as the General.

Now the digger and the guy throwing the mothballs had to be blonde.

I will ask on your blog as I did on mine "How do you get the old pictures on your blog.

Have fun shopping. Tn. gets two tax free weekends each year for school and Puppy went and got some new school clothes and this year they put art supplies on the tax free list so I stocked up on paints that I needed. Thank you Governer.

Once again, enjoyed seeing your old photos. Your Grandpa was quite the handsome guy. So your Dad visited the US in 1950? Have you ever been?
Loved also the Mean Moms!!

I never drink bottled water, particularly in that the water here on the mountain is so pure. Testament to that being, trucks take loads of it off the mountain to the breweries, Coca Cola etc. One brand sold at the supermarket up here, I'm sure is mountain water. Why should I buy it when I can turn on the tap and get it for free? I drink loads and loads of water...love it! My favourite drink! :)

Well Merle, I suppose I was a mean mother too. My daughter is finally figuring it out, now that she has kids of her own.

I love the picture of your parents and grandparents. Old pictures are so much fun to look at.

Definitely not enough mean mothers in the world, or fathers for that matter. Being 'mean' is simply setting boundaries much of the time, and children need those boundaries, even though they may try and push them over from time to time.

Hi Merle, that information about bottled water is quite frightening. I tend to not drink bottled water (don't actually drink a lot of water at all, come to think of it), but if I do, I throw it out if it gets warm, anyway!!
Take care, Meow
