If There Be Peace.

Post 342 ~ ~ ~ ~ Friday, 19th October, 2007.

Hello Everyone ~ ~ I hope all is well at your house and
that you will enjoy the upcoming weekend. All well here,
I spent quite a while cooking ~ a leg of lamb and heaps
of vegetables. As a result, I am late starting this, so may
cut it a bit short.

Tomorrow is Olive 's 108th birthday, so I will put the
link in again for anyone who wishes to leave her a message.
I see that some of the greetings disappeared into cyber
space, which is a shame. I hope she has a wonderful day.

My eldest son, John had a skin cancer removed by a
surgeon yesterday, and has another in a fortnight. He said
it wasn't too painful today.

My younger daughter Kathy and Ard (in wedding photo
as my header) and their four kids are going to see the fifth
one, Joh, at his passing out parade. His first 3 months in
the Australian Defence Forces has gone by so quickly.
Happily, he seems to like it.
Daylight Savings Time starts here at the weekend !!

Couple of garden pictures again tonight.

Another pretty pelargonium.

I had some plants in pots along here, but Geoff filled up a garden bed
and got rid of the pots. Things seem to be growing better now.

A small piece tonight, about Peace. Hope you like it.

If there is to be peace in the world,
There must be peace in the nations.

If there is to be peace in the nations,
There must be peace in the cities.

If there is to be peace in the cities,
There must be peace between neighbors.

If there is to be peace between neighbors,
There must be peace in the home.

If there is to be peace in the home,
There must be peace in the heart.

Time for a few jokes ~ ~ ~ ~

A doctor was fuming when he finally reached his seat at a civic
dinner, after breaking away from a woman who sought his advice
on a personal health problem.

"Do you think I should send her a bill ?" he asked a solicitor who
sat next to him.
"Why not ?" the solicitor replied. "You rendered professional
service by giving her advice."

"Thanks," the physician said, "I think I'll do that."
When the doctor went to his surgery next day to send the bill
to the woman, he found a letter from the solicitor.
It read, "For legal services, $50."

An aspiring author sent a manuscript to an editor with a
letter in which he stated, "The characters in this story
are purely fictional and bear no resemblance to any
person, living or dead."

A few days later the manuscript was returned with a brief
note which read, "That's what's wrong with it.

Alma ( a blonde) visiting a farn saw something
that puzzled
her. She saw the farmer and asked him.
"Sir," she inquired, "why doesn't this cow have horns ?"

The farmer cocked his head for a moment, then began in a
patient tone, "Well ma'am, cattle can do a powerful lot of damage
with horns. Sometimes we keep them trimmed with a hacksaw.
Other times we can fix up the young ones by putting a couple
of drops of acid where their horns would grow. Still there are
some breeds of cattle that never grow horns. But the reason
this cow don't have no horns, ma'am, is because it's a horse."

God said, "Adam, I want you to do something for me,"
Adam said, "Gladly Lord, what do you want me to do ?"
God said, "Go down into that valley.
Adam said, "What's a valley ?"
God explained it to him.
Then God said, "Cross the river."
Adam said, "What's a river ?"
God explained it to him, and then said, "Go over the hill."
Adam said, "What is a hill ?"
So, God explained to Adam what a hill was.
He told Adam, "On the other side of the hill you will find a cave.
Adam said, "What's a cave ?"
After God explains, He said, "In the cave, you will find a woman."
Adam said, "What's a woman ?"
So God explained that to him, too.
Then God said, "I want you to reproduce.
Adam said, "How do I do that ?"
God first said (under His breath) ?Geez , . . ."
And then, just like everything else, God explained that to Adam as well.

So Adam goes down into the valley, across the river, and over the hill,
into the cave, and finds the woman. Then in about five minutes
he was back. God, His patience wearing thin, said angrily, "What is
it now ?"
And Adam asked, "What's a headache ?"

A few Quotes ~ ~ ~

We all live with the objective of being happy; our lives are
all different and yet the same. - - - Anne Frank.

In peace the sons bury their fathers, but in war, the fathers
bury their sons. ` ` ` Croesus.

The shortest verse in the Bible is "Jesus wept." The only
thing wrong with it is the past tense.

That is enough for tonight. I will get around to replying
to comments tomorrow. Have a wonderful weekend and
be kind to one another. Love and best wishes to you all.
Cheers, Merle.

I have now sent Olive two cards for her birthday, I don't know where the first one ended up, I saw it yesterday but didn't see it today, that was the reason I sent another.

Hope your son's skin comes out ok. My husband had one removed from the back of his neck and several small ones treated on his ears, and along the side burn area of his face.

I think it's marvelous it's been 28 years and you have had no problems. My sister had a radical about 24 years ago, but hers was caught too late, plus at that time they didn't do any follow up treatment. Even though mine was not in the lymph nodes, I had to do about 33 radiation treatments and this time, I am also taking a pill called Femara, since there was the estrogen factor involved. But thank goodness no chemo treatments, some say this pill is a form of chemo, which I will be taking for the next five years. Only thing is, it sure is making my old Arthur act up, have a pain in some joint all the time, and right now the knees are really bothering me. I go see a doctor on Tuesday for the one knee that is really bad.

Well I have rattled on long enough. Have a great week-end with the family.

Sorry to hear about Johns skin cancer ordeal. It is always a fear! My Hubby went today to have five skin tags removed from his face. The doc said not to worry about them as they seemed to be garden variety but I will be glad to hear for certain that they are not skin cancers.

Have a great day!

Dearest Merle,

Hello dear friend:-) I wish I lived near enough to go over for some of that lamb...as I think I mentioned to you before, I've never tasted lamb meat before! I had heard it was Olive's 108th birthday tomorrow...isn't she just such an amazing woman?! I've been following her blog for many months now and I love it.

Oh dear, I do hope John gets the all clear on the skin cancer. It's scary to know how many people have all types of cancer. Dreaded disease.

Your flowers are looking so lovely...I'm surprised I still have a few roses blooming but that's about all that's blooming around here, everything else froze with the last frost we had a few days ago.

Take care my friend, as always I enjoyed all the jokes...some are just too funny! lol xoxo

Mike sent out an email about Olive's birthday and I left her a note. Hope it's still there.

I've never done a leg of lamb although I've eaten it when other's have done it. I might tackle it sometime.

"Passing out" does not mean the same thing here in the States (another funny example of our not so common language). Here, it usually means fainting.

I'm going back through your posts and find that award now that I have a little more time and Blogger is allowing me to upload.

Thank you. I wasn't ignoring it. Now I have to find it again.

Love,

Ann

Enjoy your lamb, Merle. Did you peek at the Fairy Bridge and Garden on my photo blog?

I'm pulling for John, hope he is ok. I didn't get to Olive yesterday but will tonight.
..
BTW, a certain fellow named President Bush extended our daylight saving time until November 4.

Cheers,

Joh's passing out already! You're right, that went so quickly. It's good that he likes the Defence Force.

I'm glad John had those cancers excised...wise man.

Hah, daylight saving...our new premier, Anna Bligh, has decided "no". Peter Beattie was going to hold a referendum on it. So, once again, Queensland is out of step...

Have a good weekend. Hugs xoxo

Hope John's scars from the removal of the skin cancers heal ok, and they don't recur in any way ... fingers crossed.
I can smell your lamb cooking from here, Merle ... I've never cooked roast lamb before ... perhaps I need to give it a go.

Looking forward to the Daylight Savings, too.

Take care, big hugs, Connie (Meow) xx
