A Miracle of Love.

Post 458 ~ ~ ~ Thursday, 30th May, 2008.

Hello my friends ~~ The end of another week and I hope it has
been a happy one for you with good things happening. My week
has been a good one with no complaints at all. I saw my doctor
today and all results were good I am glad to say. I made a big
meatloaf when I came home, and baked it in muffin tins and so
no carving (or breaking) just neat little meat loaves!!

Sharing the last of my birthday cards and a lovely gift from Geoff and Jo's kids
Michelle 24 tomorrow and Scott 20. I love it and the plants are real and only
need spraying about once a week. Thank you so much Michelle and Scotty.
I hope you have a wonderful birthday tomorrow, (Saturday) Michelle.

My cards just before I took them down, a nice verse and 2 lovely hankies
As well I got several e cards and good wishes from my blogger friends.
Thank you all so much. It has been a good birthday.

This card was made by my neighbors, Lorraine made the card, and Helen
embroidered the front of it. It is so special when friends do things like that.
Thank you, my friends, you are both much appreciated.

The nice story tonight was sent to me by Barbara, my friend of long
standing, because we are not just OLD friends.

Psalm 55:22 ~~ you really need to read this.

A tissue or two might be a good idea.

"Friends are God's way of taking care of us."
This was written by a Metro Denver Hospice Physician :

I was driving home from a meeting this evening about 5, stuck
in traffic on Colorado Blvd., and the car started to choke and
splutter and die ~ I barely managed to coast, cursing, into a
gas station, glad only that I would not be blocking traffic and
would have a somewhat warm spot to wait for the tow truck.
It wouldn't even turn over. Before I could make the call, I saw
a young woman walking out of the "quickie mart" building, and
it looked like she slipped on some ice and fell into a gas pump,
so I got out to see if she was Okay.

When I got there, it looked more like she had been overcome
by sobs than that she had fallen; she was a young woman who
looked really haggard with dark circles under her eyes. She
dropped something as I helped her up, and I picked it up to
give to her. It was a nickel.

At that moment, everything came into focus for me: the crying
woman, the ancient Suburban crammed full of stuff with 3 kids
in the back, one in a car seat, and the gas pump reading $4.95.

I asked her if she was okay and if she needed help, and she just
kept saying "don't want my kids to see me crying." so we stood
on the other side of the pump from her car. She said she was
driving to California and that things were very hard for her right
now. So I asked, "And you were praying?" That made her back
away from me a little, but I assured her I was not a crazy person
and said, "He heard you and He sent me."

I took out my card and swiped it through the card reader on the
pump so she could fill up her car completely, and while it was
fuelling, walked to the next door McDonald's and bought 2 big
bags of food, some gift certificates for more, and a big cup of
coffee. She gave the food to the kids in the car, who attacked
it like wolves, and we stood by the pump eating fries and talking
a little.

She told me her name, and that she lived in Kansas City. Her
boyfriend left 2 months ago and she had not been able to make
ends meet. She knew she wouldn't have the money to pay rent
on January 1st, and finally in desperation had called her parents,
with whom she had not spoken in about 5 years. They live in
California and said she could come live with them and try to get
on her feet there.

So she packed up everything she owned in the car. She told the
kids they were going to California for Christmas, but not that
they were going to live there.

I gave her my gloves, a little hug and said a quick prayer with her
for safety on the road. As I was walking over to my car, she said,
"So, are you like an angel or something?"

This definitely made me cry. I said, "Sweetie, at this time of year
angels are really busy, so sometimes God uses regular people."

It was so incredible to be part of someone else's miracle. And of
course, you guessed it, when I got in my car it started right away
and got me home with no problem. I'll put it in the shop
tomorrow to check, but I suspect the mechanic won't find
anything wrong.

Sometimes the angels fly close enough to you that you can
hear the flutter of their wings . . . .

Psalm 55:22 "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He will
sustain thee, He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved."

Here is the prayer:

"Father, I ask You to bless my children, grandchildren, friends,
relatives and e mail buddies, reading right now. Show them a
new revelation of your love and power. Holy Spirit, I ask You
to minister to their spirit this very moment. Where there is
pain, give them Your peace and mercy. Where there is self
doubt, release a renewed confidence through Your grace, in
Jesus' precious name. Amen.

Lady Di sent me these riddles which you may enjoy ~ ~

These are the best five riddles I have seen. . . The
answers are at the bottom. Riddle # 5 is amazing. It
sharpens those genes in your brain and stalls off
Alzheimer's for years.!!

1. A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose
between three rooms. The first is full of raging fires, the
second is full of assassins with loaded guns, and the third
is full of lions who haven't eaten in 3 years. Which room
is safest for him ?

2. A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under
water for over 5 minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But five
minutes later they both go out together and enjoy a wonder-
ful dinner together. How can this be?

3. What is black when you buy it, red when you use it, and
gray when you throw it away.

4. Can you name three consecutive days without using the
words Wednesday, Friday or Sunday?

5. This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious as to just how
quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks
so ordinary and plain that you would think nothing is wrong
with it.It is highly unusual though. Study it and think about
it but you may still not anything odd. But if you work at it a
bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching.

The answers to all five riddles are Below.

Answers:

1. The third room. Lions that have not eaten for 3 years
are dead. That one was easy, right?

2. The woman was a photographer. She shot a picture of
her husband, developed it, and hung it up to dry.

3. Charcoal, as it is used in barbecuing.

4. Sure you can name 3 consecutive days, ~ yesterday,
today and tomorrow.

5. The letter e which is the most common letter used in
the English language, does not appear even once in the
paragraph.

How did you go ?

This next joke was e mailed to me by a lovely Taxi driver
who picks me
sometimes. Thank you Eileen.

An old Italian man lived alone in the country. He wanted
to dig his tomato garden, but it was very strenuous work
as the ground was rock hard. His only son, Vincent, who
used to help him was in prison. The old man wrote a letter
to his son and described his predicament.

Dear Vincent,
I am feeling pretty badly because it looks like I won't be
able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm getting too
old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here
my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to
dig the plot for me. Love, Dad.

A few days later he received a letter from his son:

Dear Dad, Don't dig up that garden. That's where I buried
the bodies. Love Vinnie,

Because his mail had been censored at the prison, at 4 a.m.
The next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and
dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They
apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old
man received another letter from his son:

Dear Dad, Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's
the best I could do under the circumstances.
Love you, Vinnie.

One from my friend Gina . A Cleaning Poem Thanks Gina.

I asked the Lord to tell me
Why my home is such a mess.
He asked if I'd been computering,
And I had to answer 'yes'.

He told me to get off my fanny
And tidy up the house.
And so I started cleaning up .. .
The smudges off my mouse.

I wiped and cleaned the topside,
That really did the trick...
I was just admiring my work . . .
I didn't mean to 'click.'

But click I did, and oops I found
A real absorbing site.
That I got SO way into.
I was into it all night.

Nothing's changed except my mouse
It's very very shiny.
I guess my house will stay a mess . . .
While I sit here on my hiney.

The play wasn't doing very well and as each night went by
the audiences became smaller and smaller.

One day a man telephoned the theatre to book a ticket for
the evening performance. "By the way, " he asked, "what
time does the play start?"

"What time can you get here?" came the reply.

In a restaurant where the service was particularly slow, a
customer was fretting because the waiter had not taken his
order, although he had been waiting for a quarter of an hour.

When the waiter finally appeared at his table, bearing a small
dish of peanuts, he found the place empty, except for a small
note from the disappearing diner: "Gone to lunch."

An impassioned minister was visiting a country church and
began his address with a stirring reminder: "Everybody in
this parish is going to die."

The evangelist was discomfited to notice a man in the front
pew who was smiling broadly. "Why are you so amused?"
he asked.

"I'm not in this parish," said the man. "I'm just visiting my
sister for the weekend." ~~ Roger Delahunty.

The villager on his first trip to the city was waiting at a
bus stop one morning. After some hesitation he asked a
woman, "Which bus should I take for Mahim?"

" Bus Number 177," the woman answered and caught the
next bus. The same evening, the woman got off a bus at
the same stop and found the villager still waiting. "Didn't
you get the bus to Mahin?" she asked.

"Not yet," he said wearily, "So far 168 buses have come
and gone ~~ eight more before mine arrives."

A tightwad was convinced by a friend to buy a couple of
tickets in the lottery. But after he won the big prize, he
didn't seem happy.

"What's wrong?" the friend asked. "You just became a
millionaire."

"I know," he groaned. "But I can't imagine why I bought
that second ticket. " ~ ~ Ohio Motorist.

Don't y'all just love Mark Twain and Robert Frost. Sounds like the prisoner knew the guy who got the firewood chopped. LOL Your presnts is very nice. I like the idea of just spraying the plants. Prince will be celebrating his 56th birthday tomorrow. I sent a picture to our local tv show, Tennessee Mornings on Fox and they had it on this morning. Alas, I was the only one here to see it and Prince came into the kitchen just immediately afterwards so I told him he was just on tv. Each morning they show famous people and then local ones. Have a wonderful week and we will be taking off to the lake next week as Prince's sister is here to watch over Mimi. I will have lots of mighty fine reading when I return. Peace

Hi Merle--

Me again. I love it when I hear about what you're cooking. It's always so good. Sounds like you do better at the doctor than I do. He ALWAYS finds something wrong with me. Last visit he ordered $1,000 worth of bloodwork--no joke! They took four vials.

Anyway, I saw your comment about Jimmy Stewart and wondered if you knew that I posted a link to his reading about his dog Beau. You can't click on it, I guess, but if you cut and paste it into your browser, it should take you right to the YouTube video and start playing. It's about four minutes long but worth it. Here's the link again:

Dear Merle,
You always have so many interesting things to talk about and post. Thanks for sharing with us. Today it got wamer than usual, it got up to 82 degrees F. That seems pretty warm considering just two days ago it was around 50. I hope you have a mild winter. Sleep well.

Dear Merle,

I am so glad you have had such a good week, and that the results at your doctor were good. And what a beautiful gift from Michelle and Scott. And the lovely card from Lorraine and Helen!

Friends are God's Way of Taking Care of Us, is just beautiful, dear Merle. What a story, and the beautiful prayer at the end. Thank you for sharing that, and that was so special of your old friend Barbara to send it.

As for the riddles, hmm, I did get the lions and the woman taking a picture, but I missed the paragraph! Could not figure that one out. Good riddles! And a good joke about the old Italian man. He had a smart son in prison. Haha. The cleaning poem is so much fun (and true!) that I copied and pasted it. Thank you for sharing that, along with all the other fun and funny stories. I always enjoy my visits with you, dear Merle.

I have a nice weekend coming up. My son came last night and will be here cutting some grass, and we'll be having lunch together, etc. and Eileen's cast is finally off her arm, so we'll be celebrating that!

Have a wonderful weekend, and a good first day of winter, my friend. Hope your winter will be a mild one. Take care.

Love and blessings,

Renie
