Don't Miss the Chance.

Post 482 ~ ~ ~ Thursday, 18th, July, 2008.

Hello Everyone ~~ ~ I hope all is well in your part of
the world. All is well here, and my son Geoff and his
wife Joanne are coming up from Melbourne tomorrow.
So that will be nice to see them as it's been a few weeks.
I have prepared a nice meal for them - lovely tender
steak with home made chips, onion rings, pumpkin that
is mixed with Sweet potato, Corn pieces and some peas
and honey and mushroom sauce. Looks yummy.

A little more about Connie's visit last Saturday. She
brought me a lovely package of goodies (which she
should not have) and I took some photos to show you.

This is a lovely plaque, and is for my fairy garden Nice of her
to remember that.

And two little mushrooms for my fairy garden also.

These beautiful orchids should have been at the top. and is still so lovely.

Another nice thing she did was to ask if I needed any
jobs done while they were here. A very thoughtful lady.
Thank you again Connie for the gifts and your friendship.

I found the following article and thought it might
be a good one to pass on.

They said I was lucky my mom lived near,
But she was pretty old and it wasn't so clear.
Sure, I was grateful for all she did for me,
But I was so very busy. I had no time free.

I had my job, my kids, my own life to live.
There really was nothing left for me to give.
I couldn't visit often, but I did help out.
I gave money, did chores, and ran her about.

But truth be told, I didn't like it that much.
The conversation was dull, and she was frail to touch.
She complained a lot and I just felt worse.
I didn't have time to be a handyman or nurse.

I could have done more -- of course I could --
But she loved me and she understood.
I know she did because she told me so.

She wanted me to be happy_ and I pretended not
to know
That she was lonely, uncomfortable, and scared
of dying
I closed my eyes to how hard she was trying
To be brave, independent, and not needy at all.
She assured me she'd be fine even after her fall.

But now she's gone and I miss her so.
And I'm so sorry I pretended not to know
How much a call, a card, or a hug brightened her day
Or how easy it was to chase her blues away.

I'm ashamed I felt burdened, pressured, and put out.
She deserved more than I gave her, without a doubt.

So, if your mom or dad is still with you,
Don't lose the chance --do all you can do.
Make time, not excuses. Go the extra mile.
Because your chance to do so lasts only a while.

Time for some jokes ~ ~

The first one tonight came from Mike, Olive's
helper, quite some time ago.
Lesson to be learned from typing the wrong
e mail address.

A Minneapolis couple decided to go to Florida
to thaw out during a particularly icy winter.

They planned to stay at the same hotel where
they spent their honeymoon, 20 years before.

Because of their hectic schedules, it was difficult
to coordinate their travel schedules.

So, the husband left Minneapolis and flew to Florida
on Friday, and his wife was flying down next day.

The husband checked into the hotel, and unlike
years ago, there was a computer in his room, and
he decided to send his wife an e mail.

However, he accidently left out one letter in her
e mail address, and without noticing his error, sent
the e mail to the wrong address.

Meanwhile . . .somewhere in Houston . . . a widow
had just returned from her husband's funeral.

He was a minister who was called home to glory
after suffering a heart attack.

The widow, decided to check her email, expecting
messages of sympathy from relatives and friends.
After reading the firsst message, she screamed and
fainted.

The widow's son rushed into the room, found his
mother on the floor, and then glanced up and saw the
computer screen which read :

To: My Loving Wife,
Date : Friday, October 13th October, 2004.
Subject: I have arrived,

Dearest Love:
I know you are surprised to hear from me. They
have computers here now, and you are allowed
to send e mails to your loved ones. I have just
arrived and checked in.

I see that everything has been prepared for your
arrival tomorrow, and I look forward to seeing you.

Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was.

PS ..... Sure is hot down here.

Some accident claims for Insurance in England.

Q. Could either driver have done anything to
avoid the accident?
A. Travelled by bus.

The car in front hit a pedestrian but he got up
so I hit him again.

I didn't think the speed limit applied after midnight.

To avoid hitting the bumper of the car I struck the
pedestrian.

The guy was all over the road. I had to swerve a
number of times before I hit him.

The pedestrian had no idea which way to run, so
I ran over him.

The other car collided with mine without giving
any warning of it's intention.

An invisible car came out of nowhere, struck my
car and then vanished.

Three guys are having a drink at the bar when a
drunk comes stumbling in off the street, points
to the tallest of the three and exclaims in a loud
voice, "Hey you, I screwed your mother last night."

The tall guy shrugs and continues his conversation
with his friends Frustrated by the lack of response,
the drunk stumbles back into the street.

A few minutes later the drunk stumbles into the
same bar, points a grimy at the same guy and yells,
"Did you hear me? I said I screwed your mother last
night.

Finally the tall guy responds, "I know Dad. I heard
you the first time. Now go home, you're drunk.

A guy's out walking his Chihuahua one Sunday
afternoon when he realizes he is quite thirsty,
and decides to go to the pub around the corner.

He puts his sun glasses on and walks straight up
to the bar man and says,"I'll have a schooner of Old.
Sorry, mate," the barman says, "No pets allowed."

"You don't understand," the guy says. "I'm blind.
This is my seeing eye dog."

The barman says, "I thought seeing-eye dogs were
supposed to be Labradors."
"Oh no," the guy says, "What have they given me?"

During class, a teacher is trying to convey rudiments
fo good manners to her students. "Michael, " she
asks one of them,
"if you were having supper with a
nice young lady, how would you tell her that you
have to go to the bathroom?"

Always playing for a laugh, Michael offers, "Just a
minute, I have to go for a piss."

'That would be rude and impolite," admonishes.
"What about you
Johnny, how would you say it?"

"i am sorry," Johnny offers, "but I really need to
go to the bathroom. I'll be right back."

"That's better, but it's still not very nice to say the
word 'bathroom' at the table."

She next calls on Peter, one of her more precocious
students, 'How would you show us your good
manners?" she asks him.

"I would say, 'Darling, may I please be excused for
a moment.
I have to go shake hands with a very
dear friend of mine, whom I hope you'll get to
meet after supper."
<><>

Well, I will have to leave it there for tonight
as I can hardly keep my eyes open. Take good
care of yourselves and each other.
Love and best wishes to you all. Cheers, Merle.

Thanks for the reminder to care for our mothers while we have them, Merle. I needed that reminder just now.

Hi Merle -- I just checked on Olive's blog, it has been removed.
I did not know she died, thank you for telling of her passing.

Most public toilets aren't 'bathrooms' rather just a 'restroom.'
I try to remember to ask another guy to come along like the ladies ask each other. Not many want to go with me. In fact none that I can remember.

I tell about the fellow and his Chihuahua but my version is more complicated.

So you did good on the jokes tonight. And I'm glad Connie could come visit with you. She brought some nice presents too.
Cheers,
..

Hi Merle. I love those insurance claims. I remember one which said the driver was driving along the road when a tree jumped out and he hit it.

Crazy but funny.

Enjoy your visitors tomorrow. Your dinner sounds very yummy.

G'Day Merle,
Hope your wrist is doing o.k. I have heard those things can be sensitive.
Ta for the reminder about Mums and Dads. I miss my Dad and think of him every day. As you know my Mum lives with us and I try to do my best with her but some times I get annoyed and impatient with her.
You have exceeded your daily vege requirements in one meal there Merle, good work girl!
Sorry to hear about Olive, I have had several reads of her blob, but not recently.

I just clicked on Olive's blog, but it has been removed...just when I had a few minutes to check it out. It's been such a busy week for me!

The plate and mushroom gifts are darling!!! That was so thoughtful of her!

Your dinner sounds delicious!!! What time did you say you were serving? LOL

Loved the jokes....you always give me some smiles!!! Thank you!

I loved the first one about making time for Mom and Dad. My mother moved in with me...she came down from PA. She was so sick with bowel obstructions, one after another. She was in the hospital for 13 consecutive weeks, having 3 surgeries during that time. She came home and had more hospitalizations, but I took care of her at home right to the end when she had a stroke. Diane, my friend and nurse from Do Drop Inn, came right away that day and prayed with my mom while I dressed before the ambulance arrived. My mom died 3 hours later. I have no regrets now, but at times it was so very stressful to care for her. She kept me up all night, complained all the time, was mean at times, had her in diapers, etc.....but you just learn to keep your mouth shut and go on. I miss her dearly now. I lost my dad to brain cancer in 1995.

Have a great weekend now!

Dear Merle, meal sounds delicious. Hope you, son and family had a nice visit.

Liked your jokes as usual. Several had me chuckling out loud.

Well it's almost lunch time here, so I better decide what I am going to prepare. Mowed the yard EARLY this morning, since it's suppose to get really, really warm today.

Hope you slept well.

Dear Merle,

Thanks for the reminder of Mothers.

About the autos -

Back in the 70's my cousin went to take her driver's written exam. One of the questions was:

"Whenever a pedestrain is crossing the street, who has the right of way?"

My cousin answered that she did.

Of course she failed the exam - that wasn't the only wrong answer....she finally passed after the fourth try.

Hi Merle! It's been way too long since I've dropped in on you for a visit. I can't believe it. Way too long.

What lovely gifts you received. That color of orchid is gorgeous. Can you have them growing outdoors? You're in winter now tho, right? I get confused....when it's hot here in Texas I'm thinking you too have summer, but once I twist my head back on straight I realize you're in a whole 'nother world [kidding!]

Glad to hear that you're doing well. I've really missed coming here, and I hope to be a visitor again on a regular basis.

I heard about our dear blogger, Olive, passing on. She and Mike were making our blogging world so wonderful, she'll be missed by a lot of us who have been to her blog.

Hope your weekend will be graced with joy and blessings.

Have a gran visit with Geoff and Joanne. That meal sounds BIG TIME YUMMY.
Good jolt for all of us to do better by others. The only Mother I have now is my MIL, Mimi. I try to be good and kind but I am human so I am sure I messed up some.
I bet the teacher fainted when Peter made his reply LOL
Peace to you.

Just me again. In reply to your comment on my blog....I just tried again to access Olive's blog, and it still states that is has been deleted. Have you checked it recently? I'm sorry that I never got to read any of her stories.

Me again. Merle! Thank you for the site for Olive. I don't know why the other address didn't work...I don't think it had the au at the end of it. Anyhow, I read the last post and plan to start with Post No. 1 and read them all over time. What a sweet little lady she was!!!

Thanks again!
