Our Olive has Passed Away.

Post 481 ~ ~ ~ Tuesday, 15th July, 2008.

Hello Everyone ~~ I hope all is well with you
and the week is going well. I had my Scan
and rang today for results ~~ a ganglion and
no change or treatment necessary at present.

I suppose many of you have heard of Olive,
the oldest blogger in the world, or blobber
as she used to call it. Unfortunately, the
108 year old lady lost her battle after getting
a chest infection that wouldn't shift. She lost
her son, Barney six months ago, and no doubt
this contributed to her death. He was 80.

She was a real character and sang old songs
on video and talked about the old days.
Very interesting.

If anyone cares to read about her, her blob is
http://allaboutolive.blogspot.com/
Her good friend Mike used to do all the typing
and videos and did a great job with the many
tales she told. She passed on Sunday 13th.
Rest in Peace, dear Olive.

Next time I post, I will tell more of Connie's
visit and post more pictures. She even gave
me the OK to post her daughter's photo.

Today, my Home Care lady came and got the
house in order for another couple of weeks.
And after a shower, I am looking forward to
fresh warm sheets. Thanks to electric blanket.

But first, I have a paper to read and the
endless Specials brochures to read.
But since I am here, I will find a joke or two.

A married couple whose baby was due, arrived
at the hospital to be told of an experimental
procedure that enabled the doctor to transfer
a portion of the mother's labor pain to father.
It involved the use of new equipment and the
couple were ready to give it a go.

"I'm setting the knob at 10 percent to begin with."
the doctor said. "Even 10 percent of the pain of
labor is probably more pain than any man has
ever experienced."

But as the labor progressed, the husband felt
fine, so asked the doctor to bump the machine
up a notch.

The doctor then set the machine to 20 percent
and checked the husband's blood pressure and
pulse and was amazed at how well he was doing.

At thirty percent, the husband still couldn't feel
a thing, at fifty percent he was still holding up
fine and as this was helping his wife, he encour-
aged the doctor to transfer all the pain.

The wife delivered a healthy baby with virtually
no pain. She and her husband were absolutely
thrilled. Everything was great until they got home
and found the mailman dead on their front porch.
<><>

A man hasn't been feeling well, so he goes to his
doctor for a complete check-up. Afterward, the
doctor comes out with the results."I'm afraid I
have some very bad news
," the doctor says.
"You're dying and you don't have much time left."

"Oh, that's terrible," says the man, "how long
have I got?"
"Ten," the doctor says sadly.

"Ten ?" the man asks, "Ten what? Months? Weeks?
or What?"

"Nine . . . . ."
<><>

An old man goes to the Wizard to see if he can
remove a curse he has been living with for forty
years.
The Wizard says, "Maybe, but you will have to
tell me the exact words that were used to put
the curse on you."

The old man says, without hesitation, " I now
pronounce you man and wife."
<><>

A young lady came home from a date, rather sad.
She told her mother that Jeff had proposed to her.
"Then why are you sad?"

"Because he also told me he is an a atheist Mum and
he doesn't believe there is a hell."
Her mother replied, "Marry him anyway. Between
the two of us, we'll show him how wrong he is."
<><>

Bye for now, my friends until next time. Love
and best wishes to you all. Cheers, Merle.

So sorry to hear about Olive, She was quite a character.

Did get a chuckle from your jokes, loved them all, especially the mail man joke.

Hope you had a nice warm sleep on the clean sheets and electric blanket. Here even with AC, since we have it set for 78 at night time, I had my fan next to my recliner runnig all night. It's a revolving fan and it has a remote control which is nice, because if I get too chilly I can shut it off without having to get up to do it. Same if I'm having a hot flash, I can turn it on if it's off, yes these should be over by now, but that new drug I've been taking and will have to continue for about 3 1/2 more years, causes me to get them every now and then and usually it's after I go to sleep.

108 years and she gave all of us a little of herself when she posted her blogs. We should not mourn her passing but celebrate her life.

Imagine still blogging at 108! Imagine still doing anything at 108! That's amazing.

It took me a minute to get the one about the mailman - that was really funny!

Sleep well. It's pouring and pouring here, which is kind of cozy, except it caused the electricity to go off in the night, and with it the fans...

Good Morning Merle. I am sorry to hear about Olive's passing. I thought you'd want to know that her blog has been removed. At least that is what it said when I tried to access it.
As usual I loved your jokes.
Take care dear, and do enjoy your clean sheets! I got to enjoy mine last night!

I had heard about the oldest blogger dying. I think it is wonderful that she still did that at 108. I think I'll do it at least that long too! (lets all try !!)

Merle, you are so entertaining with your blog. Anyone feeling down, just has to come visiting and they will leave with a laugh.

Thanks for the uplift everytime I come by!

Yes, I knew about Olive's passing, Merle. She was a remarkable old lady and lived a full and interesting life. We were privileged to have known her. Mike and Katya will be terribly upset because Olive became a big part of their lives.

I loved the jokes, especially the one about transferring the pain of labour to the father.

Glad you've got your house all nice and fresh...and your electric blanket waiting for you. It's rarely cold enough at night here for electric blankets and on the odd night it is so cold, a hot water bottle does the trick.

Take care, Merle. Hugs.

Dear Merle,

That is sad news about Olive. May she rest in peace.

I am glad to hear that your wrist needs no treatment, although I must show my ignorance, as I don't know what a ganglion is. Glad your Home Care lady got your house in order again. I hope you are staying nice and warm, dear Merle. Funny story about the husband with the labor pains. And the old man with the curse was funny as well, and the atheist mom. Haha.

I have been busy here, getting ready for my older son and family's visit. They are arriving Sunday evening for a week. And I have been enjoying a bumper crop of tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden. A nice problem to have. Yum!

Have a wonderful week, my friend. I am sorry I am always late these days. There is always so much to do and so little time. Until next time, take good care, and hope you get to bed a little earlier!

Love and Hugs,

Renie

A bed with clean (and warm) sheets just seems to sleep better. For my procedure today they covered me with a warm blanket after I got on the gurney - it was cold in that place. ec

Ok, I must be dreaming... I KNOW I left a comment here yesterday, just like on Peters blog, but it's not there today!!!

I had read about Olive on CNN.com. Sounds like a wonderful lady, and a sad loss to everyone.

Great jokes as always Merle! *S* I'm also glad for the good medical news. *S*
