You Are My Sunshine,

Post 517 ~ ~ ~ Sunday, 5th October, 2008.

Hello Everyone ~~ A lovely sunny Spring day in Shepparton today, so that has been
very nice. I hope the weather has been how you like it, wherever you are in your part
of our wonderful world. Yesterday was great also and my friend, Lorraine came and planted my tomatoes, chives, parsley, rosemary and some petunias for me. She did a
great job, so willingly and I do appreciate her. They all look great and I have watered them again today. At least, I can do that.

I rang my granddaughter, and Rachael, Andrew and Chloe Maree are all doing well.
They came home yesterday and are getting into a routine, so that is great. Andrew has
another week off work to help them. Very proud and happy parents. And no more
insulin injections. They will keep a check on that side of things.

John sent me a photo of his two dogs, that I am baby-sitting for about three weeks
while he goes on a motor-cycle trip to Western Australia. He has a trailer for his bike
with all sorts of extras, like tent, small fridge and cooking utensils and food etc.
I uploaded the photo, but had to delete it as it wouln't shift down for me to type above.
I tried for ages, but no luck. I have had this problem before, but usually can win in the end. But not tonight. So just imagine a white Maltese terrier, another part Maltese
and part Shit'zu. Not sure if that is correct spelling. Both are white and a few years old.

My first item tonight is a lovely story my friend Linda C. sent me and you may need
a tissue. Thank you Linda. I loved this story.

"You are My Sunshine, My only Sunshine."

Like any good mother, when Karen found out that another baby was on the way, she
did what she could to help her 3 year old son, Michael, prepare for a new sibling.
They found out that the baby was going to be a girl, and day after day, and night after nighr, Michael sang to his sister in Mommy's tummy. He was building a bond of love
with his little sister before he even met her. The pregnancy progressed normally for
Karen, an active member of the Panther Creek United Methodist Church in Morristown,
Tennessee.

In time the labor pains came and she went to hospital, but serious complications arose
during the delivery and Karen found herself in hours of labor. Would a C-section be
required? Finally after a long struggle, Michael's little sister was born, but she was in a very serious condition. She was rushed to the neonatal intensive care at St.Mary's
Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. The days inched by and the little girl got worse. The
pediatrician had to tell the parents there was very little hope and to be prepared for the
worst. Karen and her husband contacted a local cemetery about a burial plot.

They had fixed up a special room in their house for the new baby, but they found them-
selves having to plan a funeral. Michael kept begging his parents to let him see his
sister. He kept saying, "I want to sing to her." Week two in intensive care looked as
though a funeral would come before the end of the week.

Michael kept nagging about singing to his sister, but kids are never allowed in Intensive
Care. Karen decided to take Michael whether they liked it or not. If he didn't see his
sister right then, he may never see her alive. She dressed him in an over=sized scrub
suit and marched him into ICU. He looked like a walking laundry basket.

The head nurse recognized him as a child and bellowed, "Get that kid out of here now.
No children are allowed." The mother rose strong in Karen, and the usually mild-
mannered lady glared steel-eyed right into the head nurse's face, her lips a firm line.
"He is not leaving until he sings to his sister," she stated. Then Karen took Michael
to his sister's bedside.

He gazed at the tiny infant losing the battle to live. After a moment, he began to sing.
In the pure-hearted voice of a 3 year old, Michael sang, "You are my sunshine, my only
sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray." Instantly, the baby girl seemed to
respond. Her pulse rate began to calm down and become steady. "Keep on singing,
Michael," encouraged his mother with tears in her eyes.

"You never know, dear, how much I love you, please don't take my sunshine away." As Michael sang to his sister, the baby's ragged, strained breathing became as smooth as
a kitten's purr. "Keep on singing sweetheart." "The other night dear as I lay sleeping,
I dreamed I held you in my arms." Michael's little sisiter began to relax as rest, healing rest, seemed to sweep over her. "Keep on singing, Michael," Tears had conquered the
face of the bossy head hurse. Karen glowed. "You are my sunshinem my only sunshine. Please don't take my sunshine away..."

The next day . . .the very next day . . .the littee girl was well enough to go home.
Woman's Day called it the "Miracle of a Brother's Song." The medial staff just called
it a miracle. Karen called it a miracle of God's love.

Never give up on the People you love. Love is so Incredibly Powerful.

First joke came from Patty. Thank you, my friend.
It is called "Party at the Senior Center."

Last night we went to a party at the local senior center. The last Saturday of every month
they have an evening potluck supper. We usually eat, play Bingo, reminisce, and drink
a little wine and talk about the good old days.

We heard that Selma Martin's grandson is staying with her for a few weeks. It's rumored
he got into a scrap over some marijuana with the law out in Phoenix and he came to Denton to avoid the heat. Anyway, Selma is known for her delicious Brownies and she
always bakes up a quadruple batch for each get-together. She makes enough for every-
one and some for folks to take home for later.

For some reason they were extra good this week and every last one was eaten. Not a one left over. We later found out that Selma's grandson, Butch, laced the brownies with some
of his marijuana.

Knowing this, I guess it offers a logical reason for everyone feeling good that night.
By the time Zeke put on the bunny hop record, everyone was in a real good mood and
it was the first time the whole place got up and danced . . . . . .
That is until the cops came to check all the noise complaints.
But that's another story . . . . . . . . .

A judge in a small city was hearing a drunk driving case and the defendant, who
had a record and a reputation for driving under the influence, demanded a jury trial.

It was nearly 4 pm and getting a jury would take time, so the judge called a recess and
went out in the hall looking to impanel anyone available for jury duty. He found a
dozen lawyers in the main lobby and told them they were a jury. The lawyers thought
this would be a novel experience and so followed the judge to the courtroom.

The trial was over in about ten minutes and it was very clear the defendant was guilty.
The jury went into the jury room, the judge started getting ready to go home, and
everyone waited. After nearly three hours, the judge was totally out of patience and sent
the bailiff uinto the jury room to see what was holding up the verdict. When the bailiff
returned, the judge said, "Well have they got a verdict yet?"

The bailiff shook his head and said, "Verdict? They are still doing nomination speeches
for the foreman's position."

Two men were sitting by the swimming pool at a nudist colony when they noticed a
beautiful young woman walking towards the pool. Her sun-tan lines revealed the
outline of a tiny swimsuit with elaborately crisscrossed straps across the back.

"Mmm." one of the men said wistfully, "I'll bet she looks great in that suit."

Over breakfast one morning, a woman says to her husband, "I bet you don't know
what day this is" "Of course, I do," he answered indignantly, going out to go to work.

At 10 am the doorbell rang, and when she opened the door, she was handed a box
containing a dozen long stemmed roses. At 1 pm a foil wrapped two pound box of
her favorite chocolates arrived. Later a boutique delivered a designer dress.

The woman couldn't wait for her husband to come home. "First the flowers, then the
chocolates and then the dress." she exclaimed. "I've never spent a more wonderful
April Fool's Day in my whole life."
<><>

Two neighbors were talking over the back fence, "I went to a wedding this weekend,"
said one, "but I don't think this marriage will last long." "Why not," said the other.
"Well when the bride said 'I do" the groom said, 'Don't use that tone of voice with me."
<><>

Returning home one evening, a husband found his new bride in tears. Between sobs he learnt something terrible had happened.
"Darling," she said, "the first meat pie I ever baked for you and the cat ate it."

"That's all right, Love, " he consoled her. "I'll get you another cat tomorrow."

Shrink Rap.
Hello,welcome to the Psychiatric Hotline.
"If you are obsessive=compulsive, please press 1 repeatedly."
"If you are co-dependent, please ask someone to press 2."
"If you have multiple personalitiesm please press 3, 4, 5 and 6."
"If you are paranoid-delusional, we know who you are and what you want. Just stay on
the line, so we can trace this call."
"If you are schizophrenic, listen carefully and a little voice will tell you which number to press."
"If you are manic-depressive, it doesn't matter which number you press. No one will answer.

Because of the shortage of jobs in town, a boy appeared for work on a farm. The
foreman decided to give him a try and told him to milk a cow, equipping him with
a stool and a bucket.

An hour later the boy returned dirty and sweaty, the bucket in one hand and the
stool in the other. "Extracting the milk was easy," he explained. The worst part
was getting the cow to sit on the stool."
<><>

A preacher's car broke down just after his Sunday service. On Monday morning,
he managed to drive the vehicle to the town's one garage for repairs. "I hope you will
go easy on the cost," he told the mechanic. "After all, I am only a poor preacher."

"I know," came the reply, "I heard you preach yesterday."
<><>

Well, that is it for tonight folks. I hope you got a smile or a tear from something.
We began our Daylight Saving Time today. We have it now for six months and I
haven't heard of anyone not liking it. We are now an hour ahead of Queensland,
and three hours ahead of Western Australia. The other states, New South Wales
and South Australia and Tasmania all have it too. It is lovely to have daylight after
the evening meal. I hope you all have a great week ahead. Love and Best Wishes to
you all, my friends. Cheers, Merle.

Good luck dog sitting. I know what that's like, although I've never had more than one dog to dog sit at a time.

Loved the April Fool joke, actually Abe and I got engaged on April Fools Day.

And the young man, the stool and milking the cow was really funny. Have a great Sunday.

Hello dear Merle. Love today's post. You were right, the first story brought a tear or two, or three! Great jokes as well.
Today is a bit warmer than the past week has been. It is currently 68 degrees F. I'm not sure what that is in celcius measure. I haven't posted yet. Want to get some more pictures taken before I do. Have a great week and take care.

Hello Merle and I do hope you are having a lovely spring day. We had a blustery wind and rain yesterday but so far today it's been dry.
Isn't it nice to have the garden planted? I love that feeling when it's finally done and I can water and watch it grow.

You are right. Michael's song really touching. I've heard of things like this.
The 'Shrink Rap' sure made me chuckle. I wonder who thinks up these things?
I also loved the April Fools joke. Wish I'd have thought of something like that in my married years but I gues I was too busy doing all those wifely chores!
I hope your garden grows beautifully for you dear Merle. Have a wonderful week.
Love you

I actually read that "You are my Sunshine" in the Woman's Day, Merle. Isn't it just a wonderful story?

Daylight Saving...you lucky things. Our State Govt have given it the thumbs down...again. We all want it, although the farmers don't. So Queenslanders get up at 4.30 am, when the sun comes up...still.

Glad you've got such lovely friends to help you out, Merle, but you obviously deserve them.

Hugs.

Merle you can add the pictures in the edit post, then create an inch of space under them by hitting enter repeatedly then click on photo and drag it down half an inch, you can adjust the spacing once you have the post how you want it.

Hi Merle, congratulations on Chloe.

Our weather right now is about like yours. We are mid 80's in the day and lower 60's in the evenings. Still very little rain unless a tropical system comes in from the Gulf.

I used to sing You Are My Sunshine a lot. It is the Kansas state song.
Cheers,
..

Great post. Maybe you can take some photos of those little white fuffy balls of snow. I am putting my gardens to bed and you are just starting yours. What kind of tomatoes did you plant. I am still getting a few tomatoes but Prince only goes to the garden every other day now. I like six plants having them all put in their spots inside for the winter. We are having a rather warm day today about twelve degrees warmer than usual at this time of year. Still no rain. Gotta run and play Robert Frost today with a bit of Clint Eastwood on the side. LOL Peace

Congratulations on the new baby girl! And I loved the story about the little boy singing to his baby sister. So sweet. I know with my youngest I used to take my nap while listening to classical music while I was expecting him. Once he was born, I had only to put on the classical music and he went right to sleep! The April Fool's joke was great!

Hi Merle, I'm a bit envious of you getting your garden ready for summer, here we are putting ours to bed for the winter but never mind hey. I know what you mean about blogger, it has me beat sometimes too. Bob.

Hi Merle,

I liked the "You are my sunshine" story, and yes it did bring me to tears. I read or was told when I was carrying my daughter seventeen or so years ago that the baby 'hears' while in vetro, and bonds with the mother's voice. In this case I think the baby bonded with her big brother's voice and was waiting to hear him.
