Thursday News.

Post 74 - - - - Thursday, 23 November 2006.

Hi Everyone ~~ Happy Thanksgiving to those who are celebrating it. I hope you all enjoy the day and the food and

have a wonderful time. Thank you to all who have wished me

well with sympathy for the loss of my cousin Peter.

John and I left Shepparton just after 6.30 am and had a very

pleasant drive through some pretty country, at the foothills

of the mountains where they have snow during winter. It was

a pleasant day weather-wise also. And sad, as funerals are,

they are not as morbid as in the past. It is interesting to

hear stories of the past life of the departed as well as some

anecdotes. My cousin Peter, had a son who is a Family Law

court Lawyer in London, who fortunately came to spend the

last week with his father and to help his mother care for him.

He wanted to die at home, and his wife did a marvellous job

in caring for him with help from his sisters and brothers.

It is always great to catch up with other relatives too, as we

compare ages and wonder who will be the next main attraction.

Of course we don’t die in numerical order or alphabetical order

either. (as some bright spark wondered how the people died in

alphabetical order, because they are listed that way)

We left the town of Mt. Beauty just after 1.30 pm and

traveled home arriving about 4.30 pm. John is a very careful

driver and very helpful, watching how and where I walk as I am

not the best walker, especially around hills.

We have a Victorian State Election on Saturday, but we went

to the Electoral Office and voted on our way home. John will

be away on Saturday collecting Christmas gifts and Toys for

the needy, with the Ulysses club. He goes by motor-cycle for

this and be away all day in Wangaratta.

Now I will find some jokes - - -

An old man asks the Wizard if he can remove a curse he has

been living with for 40 years. The Wizard says : ”Maybe, but

you will have to tell me the exact words that were used to put

the curse on you”

The old man says without hesitation : “I now pronounce you

man and wife.”

Bob is going on holidays and asks his best mate, Roger, to look

after his cat and dog while he’s away on holidays. While he is

away he calls to check n his pets.

Bob : Hey Roger. How are you ? How is my cat ?

Roger : I’m good, but your cat’s dead.

Bob : Roger, you can’t tell me awful news like that. You have to

say, “Mate your cat’s on the roof. It’s walking to the edge of the roof. Mate your cat’s dead.”

Roger : I get what you mean. I’m sorry mate.

Bob : So hows my dog ?

Roger : He’s on the roof…..

What’s the difference between a computer and a prison

warder?

One executes a program and the other programs an execution.

<><><><>

College student: “Hey, Dad ! I’ve got some great news for you.”

Father : “What son ?”

College student : Remember that $500 you promised if I made

the Dean’s list?”

Father : I certainly do.”

College student : “Well you get to keep it.”

<><><><>

Grandpa was celebrating his 100th birthday and everybody

complimented him on how athletic and well preserved he

appeared. “Gentlemen, I will tell you the secret of my success,”

he chuckled. “I have been in the open air day after day for

some 75 years now.”

The celebrants were impressed and asked how he managed to

keep up his rigoros fitness regime. “Well, you see my wife and

I were married 75 years ago. On our wedding night, we made a

solemn pledge. Whenever we had a fight, the one who was

proved wrong would go outside and take a walk.”

<><><><>

Enough for this post. Take care of yourselves and each other.

I am off to bed. Cheers, Merle

Hi Merle, I'm pleased to see you made it back home in one piece, I can't stay long now as I'm being shouted for my dinner and with three dogs in the house I can't afford to mess around if you know what I mean. Anyway just thought I would say hello and see what you've been up too, take care.

Glad you arrived back safely Merle. Your John sounds such a lovely, caring son. How wonderful for you.

Funerals are more celebrations of the loved one's life now rather than the morbid affairs they used to be. It's a mucher nicer way of saying goodbye.

Thank you for your email, Merle.

Love and hugs to you.

Robyn xoxo

Happy to see you're back home safely dear Merle!! You're right, funerals don't seem like such sad affairs as they used to be years ago...I, too, love hearing stories of the deceased and all the happy memories it invokes! Oh Merle, I love the jokes! lol It's past midnight here now and I'll be going to bed giggling! lol I did more Christmas baking today and am almost done...I cut up everything and put them all away in containers and freeze them. Whenever I have company I make up a platter full of my baking and of course the boys love their care packages whenever they come to visit:-) Take care my friend!! xoxo
