57 cents goes a long way.

Post 163 - - - - - Monday, 12 th March, 2007.

Hi Everyone ~~ I hope all is well at your place. I am OK, though not doing too much. The weather has been really nice the last little while with no need for air-conditioners so that has been good. Also the days are getting shorter, so
Summer is on it's way out. Which of course is the opposite for you folks in the Northern Hemisphere.
Thank you Embee for your comments as I have no other way to thank you.

Tonight's story is called 57 cents goes a long way. Enjoy !!
A sobbing little girl stood near a small church from which she had been turned away
because it "was too crowded" "I can't go to Sunday School, " she sobbed to the pastor
as he walked by.

Seeing her shabby, unkempt appearance, the pastor guessed the reason and, taking
her by the hand, took her inside and found her a place for her in the Sunday School
class. The child was so happy they found room for her that she went to bed that night
thinking of the children who have no place to worship Jesus.

Some two years later, this child lay dead in one of the poor tenement buildings. The parents called the kindhearted pastor, who had befriended their daughter, to handle
the final arrangements.

As her poor little body was being moved, a worn and crumpled purse was found which seemed to have been rummaged from some trash dump. Inside was 57 cents and a note scribbled in childish handwriting which read "This is to help build the little church bigger so more children can go to Sunday School. For two years she had saved for this offering of love.

When the pastor tearfully read that note, he knew instantly what he would do.
Carrying this note and the cracked, red pocketbook to the pulpit, he told the story of her unselfish love and devotion. He challenged his deacons to get busy and raise
enough money for the larger building.

But the story does not end there !

A newspaper learned of the story and published it. It was read by a realtor, who offered them a parcel of land worth many thousands. When told that the church could not pay so much, he offered it for 57 cents.

Church members made large donations...Checks came from far and wide, within five years the little girl's gift had increased to $250,00.00 - - a huge sum for that time
(near the turn of the century). Her unselfish love had paid a large dividend.

When you are in Philadelphia, look up the Temple Baptist Church, which has a seating capacity of 3,300, and Temple University, where hundreds of students are trained. Have a look too at the Good Samaritan Hospital and at the Sunday School building which houses hundreds of Sunday Schoolers, so that no child in the area will ever need to be left outside during Snday School time.

In one of the rooms of this building may be seen the picture of the sweet face of the
little girl whose 57 cents, so sacrificially saved, made such remarkable history. Alongside of it is a portrait of her kind pastor, Dr. Russel H. Conwell, author of the book, "Acres of Diamonds."

A local bar regular had been drinking all night. This particular night the regular drunk a little more than usual.

The bartender finally said that the bar is closing. So the regular stands up to leave and falls flat on his face. He tries to stand one more time, same result. He figures
he will crawl outside and get some fresh air and maybe that will sober him up.

Once outside he stands up and falls flat on his face. So he decides to crawl the 3 blocks to his home and when he arrives at the door, he stands up and falls flat on
his face.

He crawls through the door into his bedroom. When he reaches the bed, he tries one more time to stand up. This time he manages to pull himelf upright but he quickly falls right into bed and is sound asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow.

He awakens next morning to his wife standing over him shouting loudly, "So, you've
been drinking again !!" "What makes you say that?" he asks as he puts on an innocent look. "The bar called, you left your wheelchair there again."

A couple of redneck hunters are out in the woods when one of them falls to the ground. He doesn' seem to be breathing and his eyes are rolled back in his head.

The other redneck starts to panic, then whips out his cell phone and calls 911.

He frantically blurts out to the operator, "O my gawd ! Help ! My friend just died.
He's Dead ! What can I do?"

The operator trying to calm him says. "Take it easy, I can help Just listen to my instructions. First, let's make sure he's dead."

There is a short pause, and then the operator hears a loud gun shot !!!

Dear Thomas,.

I want a man who knows what love is all about. You are generous, kind, thoughtful.
People wo are not like you admit to being useless and inferior. You have ruined me
for other men. I yearn for you. I have no feelings whatsoever when we're apart.
I can be forever happy -- will you let me be yours ?
