Did you see the Angel ?

Post 166 - - - - - - Friday, 16 th March, 2007.

Hi Everyone ~~ I hope you are all well and happy, as I am at present. Looking forward to the visit with my brother Peter. We get on very well these days, but didn't as little kids. We have become closer since our parents died, especially my Dad.

I lived next to my mother and it was my place to look after her, which was a pleasure most of the time. We never had a cross word between us ever, and when she got older, my son John used to go nextdoor and sleep at her house, in case she needed anything. After John left to go to Queensland, my youngest daughter Kathy used to sleep at Nan's house. She would go there after our evening meal and come home in the morning for breakfast. Later, I am happy to say John returned to Victoria and now lives 10 minutes away from me.

Peter on the other hand lived in the same state as our Dad, so he saw more of him than I did, and many of you have read his story about Dad's life. He wrote this not
long after Dad died and did a great job of it. Dad was someone who once you met him, you never forgot him. I have 2 cousins who used to take me to visit Dad and
Ada twice a year, which was very good of them, and we all enjoyed those trips.

My step-mother, Ada was a beautiful lady and we were very close and she died the
year after Dad. They lived on the banks of the Tweed River on the border of New South Wales ad Queensland. I used to find it very amusing when Dad had a doctor's appointment or Eye appointment, he would be given a card with the time stating
NSW time and Qld time. This was because Qld didn't have Daylight Saving (the back-
ward state!!). One side of the highway was in one stae and the other side the other state. It is not as amusing typing all that and I hope it is clear. Better find a post item.

This is a nice story that I have called "Did you see the Angel?" Hope you enjoy.

Barbara was driving her six year old son to his piano lesson. They were late, and Barbara was beginning to think she should have cancelled it. There was always so
much to do, and Barbara, a night-duty nurse at the local hospital, had recently worked extra shifts. She was tired and the sleet storm and icy roads added to her
tension. Maybe she should turn the car around.

"Mom!" Ben cried, "Look !" Just ahead a car had lost control on a patch of ice. As Barbara tapped the brakes, the other car spun wildly, rolled over, then crashed sideways into a telephone pole. Barbara pulled over and skidded to a stop and threw open her door. Thank goodness she was a nurse - she might be able to help those unfortunate passengers. Then she paused. What about Ben? She couldn't take him with her. Little boys shouldn't see scenes like the one she anticipated. But was it safe to leave him alone? What if their car was hit from ehind?

For a brief moment, Barbara considered going on her way. Someone else was sure to come along. NO ! "Ben, honey, promise me you will stay in the car!" "I will, Mommy," he said a s she ran slipping and sliding towards the crash site. It was worse than she's feared. Two girls of high school age were in the car.

One, the blonde on the passenger side, was dead, killed on impact. The driver, however was still breathing. She was pinned in the wreckage. Barbara quickly applied pressure to the wound in the teenager's head while her practiced eye catalogued the other injuries. A broken leg, maybe ywo, along with probable
internal bleeding. But if help came soon, the girl would live.

A trucker had pulled up and was calling for help on his cellular phone. Soon Barbara
heard the ambulance sirens. A few moments later, she surrendered her lonely post to rescue workers. "Good job," said one as he examined the driver's wounds. "You
probably saved her life, Ma'am." Perhaps. But as Barbara walked back to her car a feeling of sadness overwhelmed her, especially for the family of the girl who died.

Their lives would never be the same. Oh God why do such things happen? Slowly
she opened her car door. What would she tell Ben? e was staring at the crash site, his blue eyes huge.

"Mom," he whispered, "did you see it?" "See what honey?" she asked.

"The angel, Mom! He came down from the sky while you were running to the car. And he opened the door, and took the girl out." Barbara's eyes filled with tears.
"Which door, Ben?' "The passenger side. He took the girl's hand and they floated
up to Heaven together." "What about the driver?" Ben shrugged. "I didn't see
anyone else."

Later Barbara was able to meet the families of the victims. They expressed their gratitude for the help she had provided. She was able to give them something else ---
Ben's vision. There was no way he could have known what happened to either of
the girls. Nor could the passenger door have been opened. Barbara had seen it's tangle of immovable steel herself.

Yet Ben's account brought consolation to the grieving family. Their daughter was
safe in Heaven and they would see her again.

There was a young fellow who was quite inventive and was always trying out new things. One day he thought he'd see just how fast a bicycle could go before it became uncontrollable. He asked his friend, who owned an old Mustang, if he could tie his bike to the bumper of his car to test his theory. His friend said, "Sure."

So the young man tied his bike to the back of the car and said to his friend : "I'll ring my bell once if I want you to go faster, twice if I want you to maintain speed, and repeatedly if I want you to slow down."

With that, off they went. Things were going pretty well, with the car driver slowly speeding up to well over 60 mph. The young fellow on the bike was handling the speed just fine. But all of a sudden, a black Corvette came up beside them and
before you knew it the fellow driving the Mustang forgot all about the fellow on
the bike and took to drag racing the Corvette.

A little further down the road sat Officer John in his police cruiser, radar gun at the ready. He heard the two cars before his radar flashed 105 mph.

He called into headquarters on his radio, "Hey you aren't going to believe this but
there's a Corvette and a Mustang racing out here on Highway 3, and there's a guy
on a bike ringing his bell and waving his arms and trying to pass them!!"

Once there was a man who walked into a confessional. "Tell me your sins"
said the priest. "Father," replied the man, " I have used some foul language over
the weekend and I feel absolutely terrible."

"What made you say such foul language?" asked the priest.

"Well I was out golfing with a few of my close buddies when it was my turn to take a shot. I got out my lucky club and took a swing. Boy, did it go far! And it looked like such an accurate shot too. But it must have been my unlucky day, because as soon as it passed over the top of it's arch, a bird swooped down and grabbed it, right out
of thin air!" "Is that when you swore?" asked the priest.

"No, not yet," replied the man, "you see, all of a sudden the bird began to fly dangerously low and none other than a dog appeared out of nowhere and grabbed that ball right out of the bird's claws and began to run away.

"Is that when you swore?" asked the priest.

"No . . . . . not yet. You see this dog was very energetic and began to play with it. He did this for a few seconds, then dropped it in the bushes. I was just about to pick it
up when a squirrel came running by, put it in his mouth and ran away."
"IS THAT WHEN YOU SWORE?" said the priest getting impatient.

No, not exactly. What happened was the squirrel was headng for the forest when a racoon started to chase it out of the forest, and the squirrel ran on to the golf course and dropped the ball no farther away than six inches from the hole."

"Oh now I see," said the priest, "you missed the damn putt, didn't you?"

An oldie but a goodie - - - -
"Hello," says a little girl's voice.

"Hi Honey," it's Daddy, says Bob. "Is Mommy near the phone?"

"No, Daddy. She's upstairs wit Uncle Frank." After a brief pause, Bob says, "But you don't have an Uncle Frank, Honey."
"Yes I do and he is upstairs in the bedroom wit Mommy."

"Okay.
Here's what I want you to do. Put down the phone, run upstairs and knock on the bedroom door and shout to Mommy and Uncle Frank that my car has just pulled up outside the house."

A few minutes later, the little girl comes back to the phone. "Well, I did what you said
Daddy." "And what happened?"

"Well Mommy jumped out of bed with no clothes on and ran around screaming.
Then she tripped over the rug and fell down the steps and she is just lying there.
Her neck is at a funny angle. I think she may be dead."
"Oh my God, . . .and what about Uncle Frank?"

"He jumped out of bed with no clothes on too and was scared and he jumped out
the back window into the swimmig pool. But he must of forgot that last week you took all the water out to clean it...So he hit the bottom of the swimming pool and
is just lying there. He may be dead too."

There was a long pause, then Bob says, " Swimming pool? Is this 854-7039 . . .?"
