Life Is Precious.

Post 192 - - - - - Tuesday, 24th April, 2007.

Hi Everyone ~~ I hope all is well in your world tonight. I am fine,
but have been busy - getting some gardening done - planted a packet
of Sweet Pea seeds, so hope they grow as they are lovely inside flowers.
Today, my lady came and cleaned my floors etc, so all is tidy again.
Nice fresh satin sheets on my bed, but it won't be too long until they
are swapped with warm flannelette ones. It is getting much cooler !!

Tomorrow is Anzac Day in Australia and New Zealand and there are
some good posts about it. My friend Nick has a very comprehensive
post, as has my brother Peter and Robyn from Puss in Boots tells
us about "Two Up."

My mother's first husband served in the First World War in France
and was gassed in the trenches. He developed Tuberculosis
which eventually killed him, but not before he passed it on to his
son, who was my half brother, Jack who died in 1949, aged 15.

Tonight I am going to post a really nice item that I found on my
friend Mountain Mama 's blog that seems appropriate.

Recently the evening news reported the touching, but soulful
story of how our Soldiers responded in the face of death and
tragedy.

The nightly news was on a site near Tikrit, Iraq, filming inside a
Mash army hospital. The call went out for all soldiers on base to
report to the Army tent to give blood.

And who were they giving blood to ? Four enemy soldiers who
were caught setting up a roadside bomb, that detonated before
they were done.

Our troops rushed these four men to the Army tent, but were low
on blood, so got in line to donate, and when asked by the reporter,
"Do you know who this blood will be used for?" The first soldier in
line said, "I do." The reporter said, "Why would you do this?'.
A HUMAN LIFE IS A HUMAN LIFE."

We salute our (American) troops for the untold sacrifices they make
every hour of every day, protecting our freedom and serving
mankind.
I wonder how these Iraqi men feel about having the blood of their
enemy running through their veins.

Romantic Rhyme Contest. - - - - -Most romantic first line and
least romantic second line.

I thought that I could love no other
Until, that is, I met your brother.

Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet and so are you.
But the roses are wilting, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl's
empty and so is your head.

Of loving beauty, you float with grace
If only you could hide your face.

Kind, intelligent, loving and hot
This describes everything you're not.

I love your smile, your face, and your eyes
Damn, I'm good at telling you lies.

My darling, my lover, my beautiful wife,
Marrying you screwed up my life.

I see your face when I'm dreaming
That's why I wake up screaming.

My feelings for you no words can tell,
Except maybe, "go to hell."

What inspired this amorous rhyme?
Two parts vodka and one part lime.

This joke was sent by Warren and is a bit gory. Thanks Warren.

Bill and Tom are two Irishmen working at the local sawmill.
One day Bill slips and his arm gets caught and severed by the
big saw. Tom quickly puts the arm in a plastic bag and rushes
it and Bill to the local hospital.

Next day Tom goes to the hospital and asks after Bill. The nurse
says, "Oh, he's out in Rehab. exercising." Tom couldn't believe
it, but here's Bill out the back exercising his now reattached arm.
The very next day he's back at work in the saw mill.

Couple of days go by, and then Bill slips again and severs his leg on
another bloody big saw. So Tom puts the limb in a plastic bag and
rushes it and Bill off to the hospital. Next day he calls in to see him
and asks the nurse how he is.

The nurse replies, "He's out in Rehab again, exercising." And sure
enough, here's Bill out there doing some serious work on the
treadmill.

And Bill comes back to work, but as usual, within a couple of days
he has another accident and severs his head. Wearily Tom puts
the head in a plastic bag and transports it and Bill to hospital.

Next day he goes in and asks the nurse how Bill is.
The nurse breaks down and cries and says, "He's dead."

Tom is shocked but not surprised. "I suppose the saw finally did
him in" "No, says the nurse. "Some dopey bugger put his head
in a plastic bag and he suffocated."

Upon entering the little country store, the stranger notice a sign
saying "Danger ! Beware of the Dog" posted on the glass door.
Inside he noticed a harmless old hound dog asleep on the floor
beside the cash register.

He asked the store manager, "Is THAT the dog folks are supposed
to beware of ?" "Yep, that's him," he replied.
The stranger could not help but be amused."That certainly doesn't
look like a dangerous dog to me. Why in the world would you post
that sign ?"

"Because," the owner replied, "before I posted that sign, people
kept tripping over him."

These are from an old calendar.

Do more than exist - - - -Live.
Do more than touch - - - Feel.
Do more than look - - - -See.
Do more than hear - - - - Listen.
Do more than talk - - - - Say something.

Forgiveness does not change the past,
but it does enlarge the future.

A day without laughter is a day wasted.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer
but wish we didn't.

Always do right, this will gratify some and astonish the rest.

Time to stop tonight. Love and Best Wishes to all. Merle.

Thank you, Merle for the story of the soldiers giving their blood at the MASH for the "enemy." I only regret that there is "an enemy."

And thanks for your kind words about this Yank's post about ANZAC Day. From what I've learned about the ANZACs horrid experiences in 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula, your Australian and New Zealand Army Corp was truly heroic. It's a shame that we still have the horror of war, especially after that war that was supposedly fought to "end all wars."

Blessings, shalom, and a blessed ANZAC Day.

9. Dinner is ready when the smoke alarm goes off.

My mother sent me this as a fridge magnet. I always think of her when I see it - she is notorious for burning the garlic bread. One time I was ringing her on Thanksgiving (me here in Melbourne, she in California), and while I was talking to her, yep, I heard the smoke alarm go off. The garlic bread was burning! It made me feel like I was there for Thanksgiving dinner with the rest of the family.

Hi Merle -- I guess you felt guilty about being so hard on the men, especially about the old ones.
Thanks for the lady lines. They were good and sometimes seemed to be true.
