For All Mothers.

Post 204 - - - Wednesday, 9th May, 2007.

Hi Everyone ~~ I hope you are all having a good
week. All OK here, but it has been quite a coldish
day – around 16 C which is around 60 F. I did do
some laundry, but otherwise I have been indoors
most of the day. So now the laundry is airing in
front of the heater, and I am enjoying the warmth.

I have a couple of busy days ahead, as I am getting
my hair cut which is badly needed. Then I have
to leave my computer at the Shop, as I am buying
a new one, and they are transferring all my data
to the new Laptop. So, as I am also having my son
Geoff and his wife Joanne visit on Friday night and
staying over, I may not get back blogging before
Saturday night. I hope it will work out that way.

So, as a result of all the above, I am posting an item
for Mothers’ Day. I know it is early, but I want to wish
all the Mothers in the world, a very Happy day, Sunday.

This is called “For All Mothers” Hope you enjoy it.

Read this when you have a moment alone. . . . . . . and
pat yourself on the back. . . .
A fitting tribute to the most under-rated humans on earth.

This is for all the Mothers who DIDN’T win Mother of the
Year - -and to all the runners-up and all the wannabes.

This is for all the mothers who froze their buns off on metal
seats at soccer games Friday nights instead of
watching from cars, so when their kids asked, “Did you
see my goal?” they would say, “Of course, wouldn’t have
missed it for the world,” and mean it.

This is for all mothers who have sat up all night with
sick toddlers wiping their hot faces, and saying, “It’s
OK, honey Mommy’s here.”

This is for all the mothers of Kosovo who fled in the
night and can’t find their children.
This is for all the mothers who gave birth to babies
they’ll never see.
And for the mothers who took those babies and made
them homes.

And for all the mothers of the victims of the recent
school shootings, and for the mothers of the shooters.
For the mothers of the survivors, and the mothers who
sat in front of their TVs in horror, hugging their child
who just came home from school, safely.

For all the mothers who run carpools and make cookies
and sew Halloween costumes.
And for all the mothers who DON’T.

What makes a good mother, anyway ?

Is it patience ? Compassion ? Broad hips ?

The ability to nurse a baby, cook dinner, and sew a

button on a shirt, all at the same time ?

Or is it heart ?

Is it the ache you feel when you watch your child
disappear down the street, walking to school alone
for the first time.

The jolt that takes you from sleep to dread, from bed
to crib at 2 a.m. to put your hand on the back of a
sleeping baby ?

The need to flee from wherever you are when you hear
news of a school shooting, a fire, an accident, or a baby
dying ? I think so.

So this is for all the mothers who sat down with their
children and explained all about making babies.
And for all the mothers who wanted to but just couldn’t.

This is for reading “Goodnight Moon” twice a night
for a year. And then reading it “Just one more time.”

This is for all the mothers who mess up. Who yell at
their kids at the grocery store and swat them in despair
and stomp their feet like a tired 2 year old who wants
ice cream before dinner.

This is for all the mothers who taught their kids to tie
their shorlaces before they started school.
And for all the mothers who opted for Velcro instead.

For all the mothers who bite their lips sometimes when
their 14 year olds dye their hair green.
Who lock themselves in the bathroom when babies
keep crying and won’t stop.

This is for all the mothers who show up at work with
spit-up in their hair, milk stains on their blouses and
diapers in their purse.

This is for all the mothers who teach their sons to cook,
and their daughters to sink a jump shot.

This is for all the mothers whose heads turn automatically
when a little voice calls “Mom ?” in a crowd, even though
they know their own offspring are at home.

This is for all mothers who put pinwheels and teddy bears
on their children’s graves.

This is for all mothers whose children have gone astray,
who can’t find the words to reach them.

This is for all mothers who sent heir sons to school with
stomach-aches, assuring them they’d be just FINE once they
got there, only to get a call from the school nurse
an hour later asking them to pick them up. Right away.

This is for all mothers stumbling through diaper changes
and sleep deprivation.
And mature mothers learning to let go.

For working mothers and stay at home mothers.

Single mothers and married mothers.

Mothers with money, mothers without.

This is for you all.

So hang in there.

Home is what catches you when you fall, and we all fall.

Have a lovely Mothers’ Day, girls, we love you all.

CAN and CANNOT DO. - - -

I can share your life, but I cannot live it for you.

I can teach you things, but I cannot make you learn.

I can give you directions, but I cannot always lead you.

I can allow you freedom, but I cannot account for it.

I can take you to church, but I cannot make you believe.

I can teach you right from wrong, but can’t decide for you.

I can give you love, but can’t force it upon you.

I can teach you to be a friend, but cannot make you one.

I can teach you to share, but cannot make you unselfish.

I can teach you respect, but can’t force you to show honor.

I can tell you the facts of life, but can’t build your reputation.

I can tell you about lofty goals, but can’t achieve them

for you.

I can teach you to obey, but can’t answer for your actions.

I can warn you about sins, but cannot make your morals.

I can love you as my child, but can’t place you in God’s
family.

I can pray for you, but cannot make you walk with God.

I can teach you about Jesus, but cannot make Him your
Savior.

I can teach you about prayer, but I cannot make you
pray.

I can tell you how to live, but I cannot give you eternal
life.

Bill had always been a prankster. As each of his friends
were married, Bill made sure some type of practical joke
was played on them. Now ready to be married himself,
he was dreading the payback he knew was coming.

Surprisingly, the ceremony went off without a hitch and
his reception wasn’t disrupted by strippers and the car
they were taking on their honeymoon was working well.

When the couple arrived at their hotel and entered the
room Bill even checked for Cornflakes in the bed (a gag
he had always loved). Nothing, it seemed was amiss.
Satisfied that they had come away unscathed, the couple
fell into bed.

Upon waking, the couple was ravenous so Bill called down
to room service and asked “I’d like to order breakfast for
two.”

At that moment, a soft voice from under the bed, said,
“Make that five !!”

10 Reasons Not to Wash. - - -

1. I was forced to as a child.

2. People who wash are hypocrites – they think they are
cleaner than everybody else.

3. There are so many different kinds of soap, I can’t
decide which one is best.

4. I used to wash, but I got bored and stopped.

5. I only wash on special occasions, like Christmas
and Easter.

6. None of my friends wash.

7. I’ll start washing when I get older and dirtier.

8. I can’t spare the time.

9. The bathroom is never warm enough in Winter or
cool enough in Summer.

10. People who make soap are only after your money.

your path to happiness.

Make happy those who are near; and those who are
far will come. - - - Chinese Proverb.

Every bee’s honey is sweet. - - - English Proverb.

The ever flowing river reminds us that life is eternal.

Bye for now folks for a few days. Stay well and happy.
Love and Best Wishes to you all. Cheers, Merle.

Hi Merle -- You will like the lap top. Mrs. Jim and I both use one exclusively!
I say give the kid ice cream whenever he wants it! Even before dinner.
My Mom called that a 'fireman's breakfast' as those guys ate dessert first. They never knew when the fire bell would sound and they didn't want to miss dessert.
My favorite meals were when we played fireman.

I will be out of pocket until mid-June, so be good. Please don't write me off. Karen and/or Billy might post some till then too.

I just stopped by your blog for the first time. The "For All Mothers" is amazing! Did you write it? I love the fact that it honors mothers who mess up, as well as those who do things right. It's beautifully written! Thank you for sharing these poems and verses. Happy Mother's Day to you!

Hope you enjoy the laptop as much as I have mine. Our temp is nice but we could use some rain, we are in near drought conditions. Mom passed on Mother's Day in 1997 and I still miss her, but we will be together again someday. ec
