I Cannot Remember.

Post 279 - - - - - Tuesday, 7th August, 2007.

Hi My Friends ~~ Shopping all done and packed away and even
have some soup on cooking. I hope the week is a good one for you
all, so far so good here. We had a thick fog this morning but it
lifted and turned into a pleasant day - with sunshine!!

Photos tonight are of my Mother and her mother and me.

Mum and I off to a wedding about 1956.

Mum when she and I went to Sydney for a visit to her sister about 1950.

Mum's mother, my Grandma we called "Aya" She was possibly one of the first
women to go droving in her early years, after raising 10 children.

This one has a story - I was at my cousin's house looking at photos and
saw this one and thought, "What a great postcard" and the cousin said,
"That's your mother, aged about 18." I had never seen it before.

My first article tonight is called "I Cannot Remember." I hope you
enjoy it. The author is unknown. He gets around !!

I cannot remember when I strolled on the shore, feeling the soft warm
sand under my feet.

I cannot remember when I felt the cold crisp water caressing my feet as it
rushed back to the sea preparing to return.

I cannot remember when I sat and watched the sunrise marking the
beginning of a new day in everyone's life.

I cannot remember when I took the time to separate the colors of the
rainbow for I spent more time focusing on the "pot of gold."

I cannot remember when I sat and watched my favorite actor in a
cinema; or when I spent time with my best friend, my dog.

I cannot remember when I last strolled in a park admiring the wonders
of the plant kingdom, hugging a tree to feel the energy flowing into my
being, becoming one with the tree, my brother.

Are we not all related? Do we not all come from the same energy or
life force.

I cannot remember when I sat in a forest listening to the sweet songs
of the birds, listening to the little stream babbling along, the sound
uplifting my inner being.

I cannot remember when I walked hand in hand with my loved one,
too busy holding the hand, which needed support.

Neglecting those close to me, hearing them but not listening.

Am I allowing life to pass me by, continuously giving of myself but
never replenishing?

Can one give if there is an imbalance within? Is it fair to the one
who asks for support?

Yes, I cannot remember when I have given time to MYSELF.

Well, it is time to remember just that, and once I am replenished,
then I will be able to replenish those who could not remember.

I thank my Creator for giving me time to remember.

Another warning from my friend Warren for travellers -
Not sure if this is true, but worth a read. Thanks Warren.

Ever wonder what is on your hotel room magnetic key card?

Answer :
A. Customer's name
B. Customer's partial home address
C. Hotel room number
D. Check-in date and check-out
date
E. Customer's credit card number and expiry date.

When you turn them in to the front desk your personal information
is there for any employee to access by simply scanning the card in
the hotel scanner. An employee can take a handful of cards home and
using a scanning device, access the info onto a laptop computer and
go shopping at your expense.

Simply put, hotels do not erase the information on these cards until
an employee re-issues the card to the next hotel guest.

At that time, the new guest's info is electronically "overwritten" on
the card and the previous guest's info is erased in the process.

But until the card is rewritten for the next guest, it is usually kept
in a drawer at the front desk -WITH YOUR INFO On It !!

The bottom line is:
Keep the cards, take them home with you or destroy them. NEVER
leave them behind in the room and NEVER turn them in at the
front desk when you check out.

They will not charge you for the card (it's illegal) and you'll be sure
you are not leaivng a lot of valuable personal information on it
that could be easily lifted off with any scanning device card reader.

For the same reason, if you arrive at the airport and discover you still
have the card key in your pocket, do not toss it into the airport trah
basket.

Take it home and destroy it by cutting it up, especially through the
electronic information strip.

George was called in to the doctors for a check-up, but the real reason
for his recall was to give him some advice.

"How many children do you have now, George?" the doctor asked.

"I've got eleven doctor, at last count. Not a bad score for a life's work!"
George boasted.
"It's about time you thought about your partner," the doctor scolded,
"Any more children and it could kill her," he warned.

George's smile moved from his face as he heeded tthe warning. "We won't
have any more. If she has any more, I will hang myself.

Time moved on and George's wife confessed she was pregnant again.
When she was out doing the shopping, George fitted a hook to the ceiling
and slung a rope over it. Standing on a chair with the rope around his
neck, a thought entered his head which made him remove the rope.
"Hold on a bit," he told himself, "I might be hanging the wrong man!"

A labourer was working near a guillotine when he bent over a little too
far and his ear was severed. Man and ear were quickly rushed to the
hospital

Whilst his injury was being cleaned up in one ward, the ear was being
prepared for micro surgery until both he and his ear once again come
together.. The ear lay on a tray and the sight of it made the labourer
suspicious. "That's not my ear," he protested. "My ear had a
cigarette behind it !"

I was on holiday in Scotland and the day was so beautiful and hot,
that I decided to call into the pub.

"Could I have a pint of beer please, landlord?" I asked.
The landlord gave a smile and pulled the beer and took the fiver I had
offered to him It isn't often I check my change bur perhaps through
being in a strange place, I decided to do that. I smiled and called the
landlord over . . ."Excuse me," I said, " but you have only charged me
15p for this pint of beer."

"Oh yes," said the landlord. "There's no mistake. My beer has been
priced 15p since the beginning of the year."

I shook my head in disbelief and looked across the room where a group
oflocals sat playing dominoes. Funnily enough, none of them was
drinking beer. I wandered over and spoke to one of them.
"Why aren't you drinking ?" I asked one man.
"Us ?" He seemed to resent the intrusion. "We're waiting for
Happy Hour !"

A nice little girl was taken by her father to a seance which was being
held at the home of a friend of his, who worked in the same factory.

When they arrived at the house the seance had just started and the
medium asked the little giirl if there was anyone she would like to
speak to.

I'd very much like to talk to my old grandmother." replied the girl
in a soft voice.

"Certainly, my dear," said the medium, and shortly afterwards went
into a trance. Suddenly the medium began to talk in a strange voice - -
the voice saying: "This is your old grandmother speaking from Heaven -
a glorious place high in the skies. Would you like to ask me anything,
my child?"

"Yes, grandmother," said the little girl, "Why are you speaking from
Heaven when you aren't even dead yet?"

Every girl that I took home my mother didn't like. Blondes were too
dumb for me, red heads too fiery, brunettes too flighty. I just couldn't
please her.

One night I was in a dance hall when I met this girl who was the
spitting image of my mother in looks, ways, speech and everything.

I took her home and my dad didn't like her !!

The greater part of our happiness depends on our disposition and not
our circumstances. - - - Martha Washington.

The miracle of friendship usually begins with a smile.

There is more power in an ounce of faith than in a ton of worry.

Each changing season begins it's own blessings, purpose,
and beauty.

Happiness may be a warm puppy, but joy is having a good
friend
share your life with.

Enough for tonight folks, enjoy the rest of the week. Have some fun
in your lives and be kind to one another. Love and best wishes to
you all. Cheerio for now, Merle.

Great old photos, Merle ... there is so much personality in the older black and whites, isn't there.
I found the info on the hotel swipe cards interesting ... quite frightening, actually, to think of what personal info is just floating around, waiting for someone to steal.
Have a great Wednesday, dear Merle.
Take care, hugs, Connie (Meow)

I agree with Connie - those old black and whites have something special about them. I was so enjoying them, as well as the photos in your previous post, and then got to the story about those hotel entry cards. That's a bit of a worry if true!

Your mother and you were a nice pair. Thanks for sharing.
I think Warren should have been a detective.

A good friend is definitely worth the wait and their weight. Good friends are "Cool People" which makes the work hardly noticeable.

Merle - your photos are so well preserved and they are coming out really well on the blog. They are so interesting and I'm sure they all have wonderful stories to tell, especially Grandma going droving.
