Family.

Post 307 - - - - - Saturday, 8th September, 2007.

Hi Everyone ~~ I hope all is well with you all, as it is with me.
I have just spent half an hour posting 2 pictures and my
computer seems to have a mind of its own tonight, so who
knows what will happen ? Hoping for the best as usual !!

Well I had a lovely evening with Geoff and Joanne. after
a nice meal. Jo had spent Friday working in her parent's
garden, so was tired. She weeded some of mine and she
raked and swept. Geoff weeded, tied things up, put some
new edging on one bed and after a trip to Bunnings, he
planted more plants for me. Then spread fertilizer, sugar
cane mulch and chip bark. So it all looks very nice and I am
most grateful for all the help. and they won't accept any
money for doing it. I wish that they would !!

Jo also tried to help with a difficult crossword puzzle, that
we couldn't get finished. After they left for home, I had
another go at it and finally worked it out. I am tired as it
is hard work, this supervising !!! I did pull a few weeds.

John is gradually coming good I am pleased to say, so I
hope he can get back to work next week. I haven't
seen him - but spoke on the phone, between his coughs.

Very ordinary pics tonight - I'll have to take some more. The
best news is that in spite of the lack of rain, the water restrictions
have been eased, so I have given everything a good watering
to get it all going well.

This is just a little daisy bush with nice creamy yellow flowers.

My large stag horn fern, that is suffering through lack of water, I just could
not reach it to water it with saved water. It has a maiden-hair fern growing
out of it, and is shooting at the bottom. Should improve now with water.
It was a sight to see - - me throwing banana skins up into it !!

Tonight's first article was sent to me by my friend Gwen. It is
called "Family" and is a nice story. Many thanks Gwen.

I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
"Oh excuse me, please" was my reply.

He said, "Please excuse me too,
I wasn't watching for you."

We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said goodbye. !

But at home a different story is told.
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.

When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
"Move out of the way," I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed,
God's still small voice came to me and said :

Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You'll find some flowers there by the door.

Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself : pink, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes.

By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
"Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.

"Are these flowers you picked for me ?"
He smiled, "I found them out by the tree.

I picked them because they're pretty like you.
I knew you'd like them, especially the blue."

I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn't have yelled at you that way."

He said, "Oh Mom, that's okay.
I love you anyway.

I said, "Son, I love you too,
and I do like the flowers, especially the blue."

FAMILY
Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company
that we work for could easily replace us in a matter of days.
But the family we left behind will feel the loss
for the rest of their lives.

And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more
into work than into our own family,
an unwise investment indeed, don't you think ?
So what is behind the story ?

Do you know what the word FAMILY means ?
FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU.

Joke time folks - - -
When I had to retype the last post, I did the jokes from my
book, but forget the next one I found in the paper.

Alice and Frank are bungee jumping one day.
Alice says to Frank: "You know we could make a lot of money
running our own bungee-jumping business in Mexico."

Frank thinks this is a good idea, so they pool their money and
buy everything they need.

As they are constructing the tower, a crowd begins to assemble.
Slowly, more and more people gather to watch them work.

When they had finished, there was such a crowd they gave a
demonstration.

So, Alice jumps. She bounces at the end of the cord, but when
she comes back up, Frank notices that she has a few cuts and
bruises.

Unfortunately, Frank isn't able to catch her and she falls again,
bounces, and comes back up again. This time she is bruised and
bleeding. Again, Frank misses her.

Alice falls again and bounces back up. This time, she comes back
pretty messed up - - she's got a couple of broken bones and is
almost unconscious.

Luckily, Frank finally catches her and asks, "What happened?
Was the cord too long ?"

Barely able to speak, Alice gasps : "No, the Bungee cord was fine. . . .
It was the crowd.

"What the hell is a pinata ?"

A blonde lady motorist was about two hours from Melbourne
when she was flagged down by a man whose truck had broken down.

The man walked up to the car and asked,"Are you going to
Melbourne?" "Sure," answered the blonde. "Do you need a lift ?"
"Not for me. I'll be spending the next three hours fixing my truck.
My problem is, I have 2 chimpanzees in the back of the truck which
have to be taken to the Melbourne Zoo. Could you possibly take
them to the zoo for me? I will give you $100 for your trouble.

"I'd be happy to," said the blonde. So the two chimps were ushered
into the blonde's car and strapped into their seat belts and off they
went.

Five hours later the truck driver was driving through the heart of
Melbourne when suddenly he was horrified. There was the blonde
walking down the street and holding hands with the 2 chimps,
much to the amusement of a large crowd.

With a screech of brakes, he pulled up the truck and ran over to
the blonde.

"What the heck are you doing here?" he demanded. "I gave
you $100 to take these chimpanzees to the zoo."

"Yes, I know you did," said the blonde. :But we had some money
left over so now we're going to the Aquarium !!!"
<><>

A blonde was driving home after a game and got caught in a really
bad hailstorm. Her car was covered with dents, so next day she
took it to a repair shop. The shop owner, seeing she was blonde
decided to have some fun.

He told her to go home and blow into the tail pipe really hard and
all the dents would pop out.

So, the blonde went home, got down on her hands and knees and
started blowing into her tailpipe. Nothing happened, so she blew
harder and still nothing happened.

Her flatmate, another blonde came out and said, "What are you
doing?"

The first blonde told her how the repairman had instructed her
to blow into the tail pipe to get the dents to pop out.

The flatmate rolled her eyes and said, "Duh, like hello !!
You need to roll up the windows first !!"

A man and his extremely uptight and complaining wife were
visiting the Holy Land, when the wife up and died.

The hospital chaplain said that it would cost $5,000 to send
his wife back home, or $150 to bury her in the Holy Land.
The man said he would have to take her home.

The chaplain was surprised by this answer and asked the man why?

The man answered, "Many years ago a man died in the Holy Land
and three days later, he rose from the dead. I can't take a chance
like that."

Just a few quotes tonight. I am still awake and hope to get to
replies, but if I don't I will tomorrow.

Those who are lifting the world upward and onward are those
who encourage more than criticize. - - - Elizabeth Harrison.

Any man's life will be filled with constant and unexpected
encouragement if he makes up his mind to do his level best
each day. - - - - Booker T. Washington.

You need to be aware of what others are doing, applaud their
efforts, acknowledge their successes, and encourage them in
their pursuits. When we all help each other, everybody wins.
- - - -Jim Stovall.

The spirited horse, which will try to win the race of its own
accord, will run even faster if encouraged. - - - Ovid.

Courtesies of a small and trivial character are the ones which
strike deepest in the gratefully and appreciating heart.
- - - Henry Clay.

That is it for this post. I hope you are all enjoying a lovely
weekend. Spread some sunshine around. Love and Best
Wishes to you all. Cheers, Merle.

Hi Merle -- That is some really good help you have with your garden, it looks so nice.

I'm glad to hear that John is getting better now, whatever bug he caught was really rough on him.

I left an answer to your comment today, I verey seldom do. It said:

"That's why I am an attorney (retired) because I'm so HONEST.
And that's why I taught school instead of practicing, I'm so HONEST.

"A lot of camellias grow in Southeast Texas but our thumb isn't colored correctly (green) to keep them alive more than a year or so.

"I do grow weeds pretty good, take a look at the one I pulled from a flower bed yesterday,
.."
After your weeding yesterday my weed will look like Texas bragging, I know you don't grow weeds like this in Australia.

Before we depart (Tuesday) I have to spray weeds too in the rock beds around the edge of the house.

Also I will save this one blog in my bookmarks/favorites. Your jokes are so good that I will use them later, some for my Sunday school class when I can make them fit the lesson.

And those two blonde jokes were outlandish, you know I like blond jokes about the best of all. [I like blondes too! Especially Mrs. Jim, I had to explain both the bungee joke and the blonde/chimp joke to her this morning.]
..
Be sure to look at my weed, perhaps you know what it is. At

Nice post. The story of how we treat strangers vs. family is so true at times. Sometimes we take those closest to us for granted. It is so important NOT to do that.

That was nice of Geoffrey and Joanne to do your garden, but I can't believe your water restrictions have eased. We're still under the threat of Level 6...we've had nowhere enough rain yet.

I have heard that putting banana skins in your staghorns encourages disease, Merle. It was on some garden show, I think Gardening Australia or something like that. I give mine a little bit of slow release fertiliser in spring and they do well with that.

Have a great week and don't do too much supervising or you'll wear yourself out...lol! Hugs xoxo

Hi Merel,

Lovely plants, but the story about the flowers made me sad, then the jokes cheered me up again.

I'm sure you are thrilled with your garden makeover. It's a lot of work but once it's done the pleasure it brings is surely worth it.

Glad to hear that your water restrictions have been eased a little. Let's hope for lots more rain, although not all at once.
