A Happy Saturday.

Post 349 ~ ~ ~ Saturday, 27th October, 2007.

Hi Everyone ~~ I hope you are enjoying the weekend or
are about to. Mine is half over, but has been a fun day
with a few surprises ~ all good ones. But first I would
like to wish a blogging friend Patty has her birthday on
the 27th October. So Happy Birthday Patty. I hope you
had a lovely day.

This morning I went to visit a neighbor two doors down
to take some more photos of her beautiful garden. you
may remember I posted her Native Orchid with the
75 fronds. More of Helen's garden in the photos.

A huge white rose, covered in flowers.

A plant called a Gold-dust plant. It has spotty leaves.

Best of all, her weeping yellow rose is covered in blooms.
It is really beautiful.

This lady is the same age as me, but works in her garden a lot of the time
She must have two green thumbs I am sure. Her garden is full with no more
room for anything else.

After lunch, I was playing computers, literally !! We were
taught to find Word Art and Clip Art in our first lesson, which I
had never used before. BUT I do know what a blog is !!

So while I was fiddling around with that, my daughter Kathy rang
and said they would call in very briefly in 20 minutes. She, Ard and
Kate, Kristen, Nick and Jorja had been to see Joh at his Passing Out
Parade on Friday. They stayed in Albury last night and called on
some friends where they used to live at Waiia and then here.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL ~~ Kathy gave me a couple of photos of
Joh (Pronounced Joe) which are very nice. Then she asked if there
were any jobs while they were here. SO Between the kids and Kathy,
they pulled out my broad beans, while the youngest picked off the
few remaining beans, and put it all in the bin. Nick and Kathy dug
it up and then Kathy planted 7 tomato plants.

I did not intend to keep them that long, but I was asked, what was
going in when the beans came out. I could have managed that, but
it is great that it is done. I could not pull the beans myself; I tried.

Wonder of wonders, yesterday we had half an inch of wonderful
rain, so I thought it would be easy. But no; they were very tall and
very determined. So it has been a good day for me. They should be
home or close to it by now ~~ almost midnight.

My dear friend Jeanette sent me a fun e mail that I would like to
share with you. It is called Thirty-fifth Wedding Anniversary.

A married couple in their early sixties was celebrating their 35th
wedding anniversary in a quiet romantic little restaurant.

Suddenly a tiny, yet beautiful fairy appeared on their table, saying,
"For being such an exemplary married couple and for being so
loving to each other for all this time, I will grant you one wish each."

Wife says, "Oh, I want to travel the world with my darling husband."
The fairy waved her wand and poof ~ two tickets for the Queen Mary 2
appeared in her hand.

The husband thought for a moment, then said, "Well, this is all very
romantic, but an opportunity like this will never come again. I am
sorry, my love, but my wish is to have a wife thirty years younger
than me."

The wife and the fairy were deeply disappointed, but a wish is a wish.
So the fairy waved her wand and poof ~~ the husband became
ninety-two years old.

The moral of this story :
Men who are ungrateful b*****ds should remember that fairies
are female.
<><> Good one Jan, thank you.

A man walks into his bedroom and sees his wife packing a
suit-case. He says, "What are you doing?"

She answers, "I'm moving to Sydney where prostitutes get
paid $400 for doing what I do for you for free."

Later, on her way out, the wife walks into the bedroom and
sees her husband packing his suitcase. When she asks where
he's going, he replies, "I'm going to Sydney too. I want to see
you live on $800 a year."
<><>

The owner of a golf course in Queensland misplaced his
calculator and was confused about the correct amount to pay
on an invoice, so he decided to ask his secretary for some
mathematical help. He said, "You graduated from the
University of Queensland and I need some help. If I were to
give you $20,000 minus 14 % how much would you take off ?"

The secretary thought for a moment, then replied, "Everything
but my earrings !!"
<><>

Mary Clancy goes up to Father O'Grady after his Sunday
morning service, and she is in tears.

He says, "So, what's bothering you Mary, my dear ?"
She says, "Oh, Father, I've got terrible news. My husband
passed away last night.

The priest says, "Oh, Mary, that's terrible. Tell me Mary
did he have any last requests ?"

She said, "That he did, Father."
The priest says, "What did he ask, Mary ?"

She says, " He said, 'Please Mary, put down that damn gun' !!"
<><>

The girl was supposed to write a short story in as few words
as possible for her litery class and the instructions were that
it had to discuss Religion, Sexuality and Mystery.

She was the only one who received an A+ and this is what she
wrote, "Good God, I'm pregnant, I wonder who did it ?"
<><>

A girl was visiting her blonde friend who had acquired
two new dogs and asked what their names were.

The blonde responded by saying that one was named
Rolex and the other was named Timex.

Her friend asked, "Whoever heard of someone naming dogs like that?"
"Hellooo," answered the blonde, "They're watch dogs !"
<><>

Well I must get off to bed as we lose an hour tonight. Have to put my
clocks on an hour. There are two I cannot change, so maybe John
will turn up tomorrow. Enjoy the weekend, my friends and be kind
to each other. Love and best wishes to you all. Cheers, Merle.

I love that yellow rose. It's a beauty. Mom used to have one that covered half of the side of her house.

I always enjoy visiting with you. I get a good laugh out of some of your jokes. Loved the one about the fairy and the couple who were celebrating their anniversary.

Take care, Merle. I always enjoy visiting with you.

Watch dogs...lol! I loved that yellow rose...is that a banksia rose by any chance? I seem to recall my mother had one like that, drooping all over the place, and it was called a banksia. Anyway, whatever it's called, it's beautiful.

Aren't your family wonderful, Merle? They're always there for you, especially when you have jobs too awkward to do yourself.

Enjoy what's left of the weekend...especially the daylight saving...sigh.

Hi Merle,

That rose bush was really pretty. I keep forgetting your season are the oposite of ours. We're haiving rain right now, which is good because we have had a drought for the last two years.

Can I ask what kind of tomatoes are you putting in? And what's a Passing Out Parade?

I loved the jokes,
Janice~

Dear Merle,
Thank you so much for the well wishes on my BD. Three of our four daughters came and the one daughter that lives here in the same town, did most of the cooking, We had noddles with chicken, corn casserole, mashed potato casserole, cole slaw, some small ham slices, baked just right. One daughter made the cake, from scratch, no cake mix. Another daughter made two loaves of bread, one plain white, one herb bread. Had a shrimp platter and cocktail sauce to dip them in. Of course we had a platter with pickles and olives. Another container with chocolate candies and nuts. To go along with the cake, we had small cups of ice cream either vanilla or chocolate. And we all ate too much, so when supper time came no one was hungry. It was like Thanksgiving. I'm glad you had a nice week-end. Have a terrific week ahead.
Love,
Patty
