Cousins are Special.

Post 430 ~ ~ ~ Tuesday, 1st April, 2008.

Hi Everyone ~~ Today has been my shopping day and so I don't
expect this to be a long post. Nice to be stocked up again, for the
next fortnight. I hope the week is going well for you all and the
weather getting warmer in your part of the world. Today had been
a nice day here, with plenty of sunshine, and expect rain tomorrow.

I have posted a couple of photos from my little holiday for you.

These are the three cousins that got together for a day. I have
oodles more cousins, but these are the ones I see most. Pam, Michelle,
and Bill. I stayed with Michelle and the other two are brother and sister.
Another sister was to come but had doctor's appointments so could not
make it.

This is Michelle , her son Peter, and her niece, Vivienne . It was
great to see them all. Unfortunately, I neglected to take photos of
Peter's wife, Lauren and 22 month old daughter, Amy. They are
holidaying in Tasmania at present.

It seems appropriate to post a poem by a lady from Bacchus Marsh.
Her name is Marian Sidwell and the poem is called "Smiley."

My mind now spinning backwards
To days of childhood spent
In poor but happy circumstance
And what those days since meant.

I never knew real sadness,
I never felt true pain.
I remember loads of sunshine
And picnics in the rain.

City slums my playground
Busy roads and lanes,
I remember faithful horses,
Their long and shaggy manes.

A war was raging somewhere,
My father far away.
But I was safe and happy
As I went about my play.

My mother felt the anguish,
My mother felt the pain.
And to this day I thank her
For those picnics in the rain.

Time for some jokes ~ ~ ~

Frequent hand washing in my job as a medical technologist
and harsh weather combined give me very dry skin.

One night as I prepared for bed, I rubbed my hands with
petroleum jelly and covered them with an old pair of white
gloves. As I sat in bed reading a book with my gloves on, my
husband finished showering and came into the room wearing
a towel.

Drying himself, he went to the closet, selected a tie and put it
on. "What are you doing ?" I asked.

"Well," he replied, "if you are going to be formal, so am I. "
<><>

Some phrases for stupid.

A few clowns short of a circus.
A few fries short of a Happy Meal.
A few beers short of a six pack.
A few feathers short of a whole duck.
All foam, no beer.Warning. Objects in mirror are dumber
than they appear.
Chimney's blocked.
Elevator doesn't go all the way to the top.
Forgot to pay his brain bill.
Too much yardage between the goal posts.

One from Lady Di Thank you Dianne.

A woman walks into the downtown welfare office, trailed
by 15 kids . . .
"WOW," said the social worker, "are they all yours ?"

"Yep, they are all mine," the flustered momma sighs, having
heard that question a thousand times before. She says, "Sit
down, Leroy." All the children rush to find seats.

"Well," says the social worker, "then you must be here to sign
up. I'll need all your children's names."
"This one's my eldest -- he is Leroy.
"OK, and who's next ?"
"Well, this one is Leroy also."

The social worker raises an eyebrow but continues. One by one,
through the oldest four boys, all named Leroy. Then she is
introduced to the eldest girl, named Leighroy !!
"All right," says the caseworker. "I'm seeing a pattern here. Are
they ALL named Leroy?"

Their Momma replied, "Well, yes - it makes it easier. When it's
time to get them out of bed and ready for school, I yell "Leroy."
And when it's time for dinner, I just yell "Leroy" and they all
come arunning. And if I need to stop the kid who's running into
the stree, I just yell "Leroy" and all of them stop. It's the
smartest idea I ever had, naming them all Leroy."

The social worker thinks this over for a bit, then wrinkles her
forehead and says tentatively, "But what if you just want ONE
kid to come, and not the whole bunch ?"

"Oh, then I call them by their last names."
<><>

A man had great tickets to the Grand Final. As he sits down,
another man comes down and asks if anyone is sitting in
the seat next to him.
"No." he says. "The seat is empty."

"This is incredible," says the man. "Who in their right mind
would have a seat like this for the Grand Final, the biggest
sporting event in Australia, and not use it ?"

He says, " Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. My wife
was supposed to come with me, but she passed away. This
is the first Grand Final we haven't been together since
we got married."

"Oh . . . I'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible. But couldn't
you find someone else, a friend or relative, or even a
neighbor to take the seat ?"
The man shakes his head. "No. They're all at the funeral."
<><>

Husband and wife are having a fight at the breakfast table.
Husband gets up in a rage and says, "And you're no good in
bed either," and storms out of the house.

After some time he realizes he was nasty and decides to make
amends and calls her. She comes to the phone after many
rings and the irritated husband says, "What took you so long
to answer the phone ?"

She says, "I was in bed."
He said, "In bed this early, doing what ?"
"Getting a second opinion."
<><>

Time to call it a day, my friends. I will try to do better next
time. Look after yourselves and each other. Be happy.
Love and best wishes to you all, Cheers, Merle.

Hi Merle, I hope you didn't get fooled too bad. No one fooled me!

We are glad you are back all in one piece and had a good stay. Now you can rest up.

That "Some phrases for stupid," you left out a one-worder: Blonde.

I'll ask permission to borrow your Grand Final joke to put on my Happy Place blog. I will Americanize it.
Thanks ahead of time, Cheers,
..

Hello dear Merle:-)

I'm finally back to regular blogging and trying to get caught up with everyone...it's slow going but I'm getting there! Thank you so much for your best wishes regarding my finding out that I will be a grandma...can't tell you enough how thrilled I am:-)

How wonderful that you got to see your cousins...like you, I have so many of them but only get to see a few on a semi-regular basis. At Guy's place over the weekend it was lovely to see my cousin Laurent and his wife...I only get to see them once every couple of years.

I have to remember those phrases for stupid...too funny! lol Loved all the jokes, especially the one of the woman who named all her kids Leroy! hehe

Take care dear friend! xoxo

Hi Merle,

The Leroy joke reminded me of a boxer named George Forman, he had many sons and named them all George. He has a daughter now, hmm I wonder what he named her?

Hi Merle,
It must be lovely to have a family like yours, with whom you seem to be in regular contact! Those jokes were as funny as ever - why do you say you'll do better next time? Better than WHAT? ;-)

Dear Merle,

I enjoyed seeing pictures of your cousins, and it's so nice that you have oodles of them. All of my cousins are in Hungary,Yugoslavia, and Australia! And I'm glad you are getting nice weather. As for rain, well, we have had enough to fill an ocean, and more coming!

The poem Smiley is sweet.

I enjoyed all the jokes. The one with all the kids named Leroy is funny. And the man at the Grand Final is funny as well. Thank you for all the chuckles and smiles, dear Merle, have a wonderful day.

Love and Blessings,

Renie

Michelle has a real Aussie smile!

PS and I hope your Vicki gets sorted out soon. It's nasty stuff all the worry. Hopefully nastier than her condition you never know it might be something real easy to correct. E.g. my cousin (Aussie cousin actually one of 6) had a brain aneurysm (is that the correct spelling?), now has a little staple in her head and lost nothing bar a while off work and a bit of hair and she's absolutely fine so I hope and pray that at worst it's nothing worse than that for your niece :->

Gledwood said...

pps an aneurysm is as far as I know some kind of arterial rupture. I had never heard of it until her sister told me that's what happened. Take care Merle I'm hoping and praying for you all XX

Good morning, photos look like everyone was enjoying themselves. Talked with Abe, sounds like he will get home today, he's waiting for the other doctor. I'll be picking him up after lunch. Thanks for your visits. I haven't been around much the last few days, but I will get caught up eventually.
