Oh! Happy Day.

Post 456 ~ ~ ~ Saturday, 24th May, 2008.

Hi Everyone ~~ I hope you have all had as good
a day as I have. It is my 74th birthday, and it's
been a great day. My sons were both here today
and my daughters called as well as phone calls
from five of my grandkids. Had a couple of lovely
e cards which were a nice surprise. Even my friend
and neighbor Helen got into the act and arrived
with a lovely bunch of roses and purple salvia and
also some muffins she had made and a lovely card
she had embroidered, and Lorraine had made the
card but she has been away.

Geoff and Jo came up from Sunbury last night and we watched
football and had a nice evening together. Then this morning
Geoff as usual worked in my garden and generally tidied up
around the house. Might even inspire me to do more, now I
have the all clear. Remember, I have a bird hotel and hadn't
had luck with Alyssum seedlings, so Jan suggested we put
cacti there. So Geoff did that as well as other things.
Pictures following ~ ~

Bird Hotel with cacti plants in the bottom. A solar light comes on at night.
And happily the birds like it now and come to visit and feed. The post on
the right holds my rain gauge.

Close up of the plants.

Jo and Geoff when they arrived Friday night.

I had my hair cut and blow dried and it looked nice yesterday with nice waves
but sleeping on it didn't do much for it. The wave in front survived.

Just a couple of jokes as I am tired. This supervising is tiring
business, as is celebrating.

First one from my friend of long standing, Barbara
Thank you Barbara.

After an exhaustive review of the research literature,
here's the final word on nutrition and health.

1. Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart
attacks than us.

2. Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart
attacks than us.

3. Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer
heart attacks than us.

4. Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and
suffer fewer heart attacks than us.

5. Germans drink beer and eat lots of sausages and
fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.

6. The French eat fois-gras, full fat cheese and drink

CONCLUSION : Eat and drink what you like.

A DEEP VOICE>

A man walks along a lonely beach. Suddenly he
hears a deep voice: DIG!

He looks around; nobody's there. "I am having
hallucinations," he thinks. Then he hears the
voice again: I SAID DIG!

So he starts to dig in the sand with his bare hands,
and after a bit, he finds a small chest with a rusty
lock.
The deep voice says: OPEN!

Okay, the man thinks, let's open this thing. He
finds a rock with which to break the lock, and
when the chest is finally open, he sees a lot of
gold coins.
The deep voice says: TO THE CASINO!

Welll the casino is only a few miles away, so the man
takes the chest and walks to the casino.
The deep voice says " ROULETTE !

So he changes all the gold into a huge pile of roulette
tokens and goes to one of the tables where the players
gaze at him with disbelief.
The deep voice says: 27!

The man takes the whole pile and drops it at the 27.
The table nearly bursts. Everybody is quiet when
the croupier throws the ball.

The ball stops at 26.
The deep voice says: OOOPS!

Well that is it for this post. See you again
before too long. Take great care of yourselves
and each other. Stay well and keep smiling.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend, my friends.
Love andbest wishes to you all.
Cheers , Merle.

Happy Birthday Merle! It sounds like you had the perfect day with lots of family and friends to help you celebrate.

Your garden sounds lovely. I have been working in my back yard lately, clearing some over grown plants and weeds. We have a young boy coming over to help me and I promised him that I would help pay for some of his boy scout camp fees if he would help me.

Yes, I am supposed to take the General test today, BUT I have posponed it till June 14th (the next class) for a little more study. I am having a time with the Math that is required for this class. I should have it down by the next test date....Thanks for remembering.....

Dear Merle,
Happy Birthday, probably a day late. It sounds as though you had a terrific day. Glad some of your family were with you and others called. Hope you sleep well tonight. Again, Happy Birthday my friend. I'll be 72, and by the way, I just got my hair cut this past Tuesday, we must be more or less on the same schedule, I think we both got our cut last time around the same time. I go every five weeks, this time I got it cut really, really short. I'm not good at doing hair other then washing and blow drying it, then a few squirts of hair spray. Again, Happy Birthday.
Love,
Patty

Happy Birthday to you, Dear Merle..:)

The cacti plants are cute - I use to have some of them, but we don't call them 'cacti' we call them 'hens and chicks'.

I'm glad your family was there to celebrate your birthday. My youngest son and I took off Thursday and we spent all day together, just goofing off. Now I'm goofing of again...lol

That's all the better I can sing, Merle. So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MERLE!
I have tried to learn singing like Linda May but I can never remember the words.
A friend from Texas, I call her Little Prayer Pal, tried to teach me a really nice song but I couldn't learn it either. She lives in Canada now.

I hope your day was rewarding, it sounded like you had a really good time.

And don't you believe all those things you wrote about old people, I surely don't.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MERLE!
Cheers,

Dear Merle, I'm late getting around, after I made my post, we shut off computers, went out to have a bite of lunch, stopped to visit our one daughter and her nine year old son, and then stopped to visit my Mother for a bit and we just got back home. Please go to my blog and pick up your award. Love, Patty

My birthday was yesterday (May 25th) but you're ahead of me, in spirit as well as numbers. Happy belated birthday.

I'll pass a note to Lucy that you left a thank you for her on my blog. It reminded me that I hadn't been by to visit in a while. That cat is cool. I was playing with it here and got it all wound up, meowing and the like.

Dear Merle...Just read at Jim's that you had a birthday and I thought it only fitting that I should wish you at least a belated birthday. On my blog, Jim is forever singing his birthday song to everybody.
I call him our very own singing telegram man!!
If I know that there is someone's birthday, I have to leave the volume down on my computer. Otherwise he will be waking up everybody in the neighbourhood, because he usually comes in at the dead of the night to do the singing!

I hope that you had a great Memorial day, remembering all of the precious soldiers who gave their all for freedom.
Bernie and I really enjoyed what the ABC news had on last evening. They showed a guy, Michael Reagan who is an artist and who has been doing nothing but painting profiles of the dear American soldiers who have given their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq. He paints the pictures and sends them to the moms and dads who have lost their sons and daughters.
If you go to ABC on the internet the video is still there and you can see the story for yourself.

Well cheers and I hope that you didn't eat too much cake during the celebrations!!
74 ? Why you are still just a spring chicken, Merle !
My mom turned 78 just recently!!!...Love Terry
