Happy Father's Day.

Post 466 ~ ~ ~ Sunday, 15th June, 2008.

Hello everyone ~~ A very happy Father's Day to
all the Dads in the US, and anywhere else it is
celebrated on June 15th. I hope you all have a
really nice day, all the fathers and grandfathers.

It is also Miss Vickie's birthday, although she
doesn't blog any more. I hope you have a lovely
day dear Vickie, and many, many more.

As it is Sunday, I thought a little Religion would
be in order ~ hence the following signs ~~~

A friend sent me these and I liked them. Hope you got a smile!!

My friend Patty Lincoln sent me the following quotes about
Dada. Thank you Patty.

My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard.
Mother would come out and say, "You're tearing up the grass."
"We're not raising grass," Dad would reply, "We're raising kids."
~ ~ ~ Harmon Killebrew.

Blessed indeed is the man who hears many gentle voices call
him Father. ~ ~ ~ Lydia M. Child.

He didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.
~ ~ ~ Clarence Budington. Kelland.

Old as she was, she still missed her Daddy sometimes.
~ ~ ~ Gloria Naylor.

I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need
for a father's protection. ~ ~ ~ Sigmund Freud.

Fatherhood is pretending the present you love most is soap-
on-a-rope. ~ ~ ~ Bill Cosby.

A man knows he is growing old because he begins to look
like his father. ~ ~ Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

To be a successful father . . .there's one absolute rule: When you
have a kid, don't look at it for the first two years.
~ ~ ~ Ernest Hemingway.

By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he
usually has a son who thinks he's wrong.~~Charles Wadsworth.

Never raise your hand to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected.
~ ~ ~ Red Buttons.

When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly
stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was
astonished at how much the old man had learned in 7 years.
~ ~ ~ Mark Twain.

Thank you Kim for the next joke.
The Funeral.

A man was leaving a cafe with his morning coffee when
he noticed a most unusual funeral procession approaching
the nearby cemetery. A long black hearse was followed
by a second long black hearse about 50 feet behind the other.

Behind the second hearse was a solitary man walking a
pit-bull on a leash.

Behind him was a queue of 200 men walking in single file.

The man couldn't stand the curiosity. He respectfully
approached the man walking the dog.

"I am so sorry for your loss, and I know now is a bad time
to disturb you, but I've never seen a funeral like this with
so many of you walking in single file. Whose funeral is it?"

The man replied, "Well, the first hearse is for my wife."
"What happened to her?"
The man replied, "My dog attacked and killed her."

He inquired further, "Well, who is in the second hearse?"
The man answered, "My mother-in-law. She was trying
to help my wife when the dog turned on her."

A poignant and thoughtful moment of silence passes
between the two men.

"Can I borrow the dog?"

"Join the queue."

After he finished his route, a bus driver had to explain
to the supervisor why he was ten minutes late. "I was
stuck behing a big truck."

"But yesterday you were to minutes early," reminded
the boss.
"Yeah," the bus driver said, "But yesterday I was
stuck behind a Porsche." ~ ~ Tim Harvey.

A skydiver and his instructor peered down at the field
3,000 feet below. :There's nothing to worry about,"
the instructor said "jump, count to three and pull your
rip cord. If that doesn't work, pull your reserve cord.
There'll be a truck down there to pick you up."

The skydiver took a deep breath and plunged into the
open air. After free-falling, he counted to three, then pulled
his rip cord. Nothing happened, so he pulled his reserve.
A few cobwebs drifted out.

"Darn, he said, "I'll bet that truck's not down there either."

Lost on some back roads, a tourist collided with a local
man at an intersection. He and the local got out to
examine the damage.
"Well, it doesn't look like much," observed the local.
"Why don't we take a little drink to steady our nerves.?"
He grabbed a bottle from his battered pick-up, removed
the stopper and handed it to the tourist.

After having a good slug, the tourist handed the bottle
back to the local. who banged in the stopper and set
the bottle back in his truck.

"Aren't you going to have some?" asked the tourist.
The local shook his head, "Not till after the police
get her. ~ ~ ~ James Shannon.

My first day of basic training we were lined up in a row,
each of us in turn having to shout our last names.
After the guy next to me had yelled, "Florence" it
was my turn. I had no sooner yelled out my name
than the training Instructor was in my face,
demanding to know if I was some kind of smart aleck.
Satisfied that I wasn't, the red-faced T I told me
never to stand next to that guy again.

Hiya Merle. Great win for the blues mate.Congratulations.
That they beat Collingwood is just too good I reckon. Glad Judd appears to have settled in and is having a very positive effect on the guys.
We were lucky to have had Judd at the Eagles for so long.He is truly a champion and a great role model.
Good luck to ya Merle, think the Blues are now in the top eight too.

Hi Merle -- Thank you for honoring the fathers today. My youngest, Tim, and older daughter, Susie, visited us today along with Jenna, Tim's daughter.

We met at church. Afterwards we all had a buffet which was very nice. A local widow lady was our guest also.

A My Dad story:
When Mom was in the hospital at around age 87 or 88, my Dad and I were leaning against the wall near her room while she was being attended.

We were both wearing our green jackets. A lady came by and asked if we were brothers.

Dad said, "I think there is a compliment there for one of us."

Good evening, it's now 7:00 pm Monday the 16th. Waiting for our daughter and her friend to come over and install my new faucets on my kitchen sink. Right now I have none, it really sprung a leak yesterday, so we had to shut off the water to that faucet and we removed it to see if we could find the problem, well it wasn't something that could be fixed so my daughter and I hurried to a store before it closed. Her friend is going to install it, I hope yet this evening. I've tried not to dirty too many things today. We ate left overs from yesterday and I used paper plates. It worked out pretty good, didn't have to carry too much water to do up the few dishes. I was tired anyway, from putting fertilizer on the wet grass and then when it dried, I mowed. I also took about an hour and a half nap this afternoon. Needed that. LOL Hope you had a nice Sunday. Ours was busy and confusing, since the four girls and their families were here, plus my Mother. More later.

I love those Church signs..:)

I hope you had a nice day, I did, although I was missing a lot of Dad's, especially my Pop...but it was also JK's birthday, so my youngest son is now 27.

(I wouldn't post this on my blog! lol)

Hi Merle. Love those church notices. I've also seen a photo of one that says "Don't make me come down there!" Just goes to show that humour and religion make good partners.

Enjoy your week.

Hugs to you.

Dear Merle,

Love the signs, Especially the one about Google and Walmart! And Patty sent you some nice quotes. Good jokes as usual. I hope you weather is nice, and not too cold. We have had lovely weather the last few days. A nice break from the heat. My son Greg is here, and we'll be heading to the cabin on the river this morning. He will take me to a ride in his jet ski. That is always such a treat. I hope you are having a good week so far, dear friend and all is well with you.

Love and blessings,

Renie

Oh and Happy Belated Birthday to Miss Vickie!

Sorry to hear about the lady who lost her life to breast cancer. My grandmother died when I was two years old from the illness. I never got to know her and I pray that I didn't inherit the gene....
