Our lovely day out.

Post 463 ~ ~ ~ Monday, 9th June, 2008.

Hi Everyone ~~ Another week begun, and it
has been a holiday in Victoria for the Queen's
birthday. So most folk got the day off work
today. This doesn't make much difference to
me and we have had some light rain, so I have
been indoors most of the day.

Today, the 9th June is Big Dave's wife Wendy's
birthday. I hope she has a lovely day and enjoys
her special day.

Well I think my son had a good birthday. We had
a lovely day out starting out at 8 am, we traveled
to the Market at Albury, NSW, just over the border.

The actual market is held weekly and therefore is
not as good as the monthly ones. It was very bright
in the outside stalls, and inside a parking area, it
was a little dim, so with my eyes, I didn't get to see
very much detail. There were lots of vegetables
which I usually buy, but we have a law about taking
fruit and vegetables over the border, so that was out.

Next we went to a Commercial Club in Albury, for
lunch, but were too early so we had to play the
pokies for a half hour. Neither John or I were lucky
and I don't know much about them at all. John's
friend fared better and won $50, Well done Heather.

Then upstairs (in an elevator) for our meal and it
was really great. The food good and you could go
back for seconds or even thirds. We met up with
some friends and we all sat together and chatted,
so we all enjoyed that. I had some roast pork,
roast veggies and some lasagna with lovely thick
gravy. Later I had some pavlova, which I love,
and can't have very often. Yummy.

After a lengthy lunch, we found our way to my old
friends' house where luckily they were home. John
and Heather dropped me off and went looking about
Wodonga. (Sister city to Albury) It was lovely to see
Merle and Sean.

My friend Merle is in a wheel-chair and Sean looks
afer her and lifts her, cooks and does everything for her.
She has the onset of Alzheimers so that was sad to see.
One of the things she said made me feel very sad, she
said, "some people die slowly" as she has several health
problems. I was glad she knew me. and we talked.

I forgot my camera unfortunately. We have been
friends since our kids were small. I minded hers when
she went to hospital for the next two. After John, mine
were adopted so no hospital stays for me. Sean was best
man when I was married, and my husband was his best
man. He is nearing 79 so does a great job looking after
his wife. He had a wonderful swiveling seat built into
his car and it turns right around by a lever. A big help.
They have enjoyed a few trips out lately, which is good.
Thank you John for a lovely day out.

Well after that long winded beginning, I will find us
some jokes.

A cowboy applied for an insurance policy. "Have
you ever had any accidents?" asked the agent.

"Nope," said the cowboy, "though a horse did kick in
two of my ribs last year, and a couple of years ago, a
snake bit my ankle."

"Wouldn't you call those accidents?" replied the agent.
"No,: the cowboy said, "they did it on purpose."

At a party the hostess served a guest a cup of punch

One day, however, they got to the same stretch of road,

end and I asked him, "How are things going?"
He said, "Good."
I said, "And the professors?"
He said, "Good."
I said, "They've always had a strong football
team there, How do you think they'll go this year?"
He said, "Good."

I said, "Have you decided on your optional course yet?"
He said, "Yes."
I said, "What is it?"
He said, "Communications."

That is it for tonight, my friends. Time to write a list
for shopping in the morning. I hope the week goes
well for you all. Be kind to each other and enjoy your

You should do more "long winded" posts Merle, they are always interesting.

That is sooooooooo sweet of you to remember my wife's birthday. You obviously have a better memory than mine as I don't remember mentioning her birthday to you.

I had to look up "playing the pokies" as it's a phrase I'm unfamiliar with. Sounds like they use it more over there than here to describe a type of slot machine, eh.

Funny jokes, as always. BTW, my father once gave a tour director your site as a good spot to find jokes they could use to entertain passengers on long bus trips.

Hello dear Merle:-)

Happy belated Birthday to your son John! Sounds like you all had a wonderful time out that day and how lovely that you were also able to visit your friend Merle. It truly is sad what Alzheimer's will do to a person but luckily she recognized you.

I giggled so much at all those funny signs...talk about a play on words! lol Enjoyed all the jokes as well:-) Isn't it unbelievable how we can read that whole paragraph even though the letters are all jumbled? You must have an even greater mind for typing it all like that! lol

Have a lovely week and take care, my friend. xoxo

Good evening, a little tired tonight, I mowed the lawn early, and then we had our 8 year old Granddaughter stay the night last night and all day today. She's a joy to have around. I'm afraid she probably gets a little bored with us. It was way too hot to go out and do anything today. But she likes to watch the Disney Channel and also the Nick Channel, these are for children channels on TV. Then she took a little nap. You see, Grandma lets her stay up late when she visits, something she likes to do but doesn't get to very often, since her Mother has to get her up early to be dropped off at day care. If we lived closer, she could stay here each day through the summer. Like the hostess joke, the minister and the other gentleman saying he didn't know he had a choice. Sleep well, I'm sure I will. LOL This coming Sunday being Father's Day, we will celebrate it and also our oldest daughter's Birthday, even though it was June 1st. Her husband has to work every other week-end, so it's hard to get everyone together it seem. Then on the 29th. of June will be doing two other daugthers BD's one is actually June 27th and one is July 5th. More later, Love, Patty

G'Day Merle,
I haven't been for a visit here with you for a while.
I am glad you enjoyed your Albury Wodonga visit, I know that area fairly well, I especially like the lake. It is my son's birthday on 17th June, no plans as yet, maybe we will go somewhere for lunch. I actually identify with the communications joke, Lol.

What a wonderful post Merle!! I love the story about your friends and how you got a chance to visit with them. AT the age of 79 and still giving care for his loved one makes my heart soar!! What a delight. Sad situation of course, but to read about the love and devotion is so endearing and loving. Good 'long winded' post on that part. I'm glad to hear that you got a chance to visit with them.

The jokes? You know I love coming here. Yesterday's meals on wheels? For a septic truck? Too, too funny.

Now, I want to know just what pavlova is?!!!!! Being American, I guess, LOL---I've never heard of it. Inquiring minds want to know!!

Hope your day has treated you well my friend.

So glad you had a wonderful day with John. Seeing old friends is always nice and it sounds like Sean is a very good caretaker. I wish John had gotten a picture of you playing the pokies.
We worked hard and played hard and then just floated around last week so I am trying to catch up on my favorite blogs. Peace be with you.

Hi Merle, I sure are glad you enjoyed your outing celebrating John 's birthday. I don't suppose you ever sneaked a little of those fruit and vegatables over the border.

Your stories were nice today. I can relate to several, first I have taught several young ladies to drive (they aren't young any more). Two of them I taught to take their hands off the stearing wheel when crossing the railroad tracks. One of them's father gave her the theird degree about that!

I also did have a horse did kick me. She kicked me about 15 feet and hurt my back pretty badly.
Cheers,
..

Dear Merle,

I am so glad your outing was so enjoyable, and that John had a good birthday. Your lunch sounded delicious. And I'm glad you got to visit with your old friend Merle. You two share so many good memories, and your visit made her happy, I'm sure, though it made you a bit sad. It's hard to see dear friends having health problems.

Enjoyed the funny stories as always. The signs were hilarious, and I had no problem reading the Great Minds thing! But like you, I would have had a problem typing that. lol.

As always, my visits with you are a delight, dear Merle. You are such an inspiration. Take good care, and God bless!

Love and Hugs,

Renie
