What I Wish For You,

Post 473 ~ ~ ~ Tuesday, 1st July, 2008.

Hello Everyone ~~ How is the world treating you
as we start another month? Can you believe half
the year has gone already?

I would like to wiah Ann aka Granny and Ray a very
Happy Nineteenth Wedding Anniversary and I hope
you both have a great day, and many, mnay more
Happy Years together.

Also Happy Canada Day to our friends in Canada.

I have had a lovely, but short visit from my younger
daughter, Kathy and her three youngest children
aged 10, 13 and 15.

Unfortunately dairy farmers can't have long away
from the cows and feeding calves etc. They came
on Sunday night and spent a whole day yesterday
and left about 10 a m this morning.

Yesterday we spent out and about, starting with my
3 monthly visit to Dr. All the blood tests were very
good, so that is always good to know. Then we went
shopping around for a while, Had a lovely lunch at
the Marketplace. Kathy and I had Lemon Chicken
Jorja had Pizza and Kristen and Nick had kebabs in
a wrap. Followed by Ice-cream Sundaes or Smoothies.

After lunch, we went to the Shepparton/Ardmona
Preserving Fruit factory and came away with lots
of bargains. My favorite was some Bottled Black-
berries which I am looking forward to. Kathy spent
heaps, but got a good lot of Fruits, Vegetables etc.
I will post some photos next post. I have been busy
washing oodles of sheets and towels. My Home
Care Lady came just before they left so we made
the beds up together and all is fresh and clean.

Tonight's story was written by Paul Harvey. I have
heard it recited by a radio announcer, John Laws.

We tried so hard to make things better for our kids
that we made them much worse. For my grand-
children I'd like better.

I'd really like for them to know about hand me down
clothes and homemade ice creanm and leftover meat
loaf sandwiches. I really would.

I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and
you learn honesty by being cheated.

I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the
lawn and wash the car. And I really hope that
nobody gives you a brand new car when you are 16.

It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies
born and your old dog put to sleep.

I hope you get a black eye fighting for something
you believe in.

I hope you have to share a bedroom with your
younger brother/sister. And it's all right if you
have to draw a line down the middle of the room,
but when he wants to crawl under the covers with
you because he's scared, I hope you let him.

When you want to see a movie and your little
brother/sister wants to tag along, I hope youu will
let him/her.
I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your
friends and that you live in a town where you can
do it safely.

On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope
you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks
away so you won't be seen riding with someone as
uncool as your Mom.

If you want a sling-slot. I hope your Dad teaches you
how to make one instead of buying one.
I hope you learn to dig in the dirt aand read books.

When you learn to use computers, I hope you also
learn to add and subtract in your head.

I hope you get teased by your friends when you
have your first crush on a boy/girl, and when you
talk back to your mother that you learn what
ivory soap tastes like.

May you skin your knee climbing a mountain,
burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue
on a frozen flagpole.

I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope
you don't like it, And I hope if a friend offers you
dope or, I hope you realize he is not your friend.

I sure hope that make time to sit on a porch with
your Grsndma/Grandpa and go fishing with
your Uncle.

May you feel sorrow at a funeral and joy during
the holidays.

I hope your mother punishes you when you throw
a baseball through your neighbor's window and
that she hugs you and kisses you at Hannukah/
Christmas when you give her a plaster mold of
your hand.

These things I wish for you - tough times and
disappointment, hard work and happiness.
To me, it's the only way to appreciate life.

Written with a pen. Sealed with a kiss. I'm here
for you. And if I die before you do, I'll go to
Heaven and wait for you.

A Few Jokes ~ ~ ~

What causes Arthritis. . . . .
A drunk man who smelled like beer sat down
on a subway next to a priest.

The man's tie was stained, his face was plastered
with red lipastick, and a half empty bottle of gin
was sticking out of his torn coat pocket.

He opened his newspaper and began reading.

After a few moments the man turned to the priest
and asked, "Say Father, what causes Arthritis?"

The priest replies, "My Son, it's caused by loose
living, being with cheap wicked women, too much
alcohol, contempt for your fellow man, sleeping
around with prostitutes and lack of a bath."

The drunk muttered in response. "Well I'll be
damned." Then returned to his paper.

The priest, thinking about what he had said,
nudged the man and apologized.

"I'm very sorry, I didn't mean to come on so
strong. How long have you had arthritis?"
The drunk answered, "I don't have it Father.
I was just reading here that the Pope does."

One from my friend Patty Thank you Patty.
Nothing like a good Bible story to make your day.

How Adam got Eve.
Adam was hanging around the Garden of Eden
feeling very lonely.

So God asked him, "What's wrong with you?"

Adam said he didn't have anyone to talk to.

God said He was going to make Adam a companion
and that it would be a woman.

He said, "This pretty lady with gather food for you,
she will cook for you, and when you discover clothing,
she will wash them for you.

She will always agree with every decision you make
and she will not nag you, and will always be the first
to admit she was wrong when you have a disagreement.

She will praise you.

She will bear your children. and will never ask you to get
up in the middle of the night to take care of them.

She will NEVER have a headache and will freely give
you love and passion whenever you need it.

Adam asked God, "What will a woman like this cost?"

"An arm and a leg."

Then Adam asked, "What can I get for a rib?"

Of course the rest is history . . . . . .!!

Well, I will leave it there, I tried to post this last
night, but blogger had other ideas. Enjoy the rest
of the week my friends. Love and best wishes to
you all. Cheers, Merle.

Hello Merle and thanks for a fun post. I'm so glad you had some time with your Daughter and grandkids. Nothing feeds our soul like time with family.

I like the Paul Harvey writing too. I sure agree with him. Today's kids are given so much and they don't really appreciate it.

I hope you have a great week.
Blessings

I am enjoying your blog so much! I read Patty's, too, as I need to get my chuckle every day. Now I have found your blog to give me a smile, too! My life doesn't have many smiles in it. Thank you!

Sounds like you had an enjoyable visit with your daughter and grandchildren. I have no grands as my kids have not married yet. Would love to have some, though!

Don't you just love Paul Harvey? I loved the article on him.

Have a good week!

Yes my goodness half the year gone already.
When I was young it seemed that six months was an eternity and now it feels like the blink of an eye.
Love that Adam joke.

I have heard John Laws read this story on the radio, too true and yes I think kids are better for learning lessons by themselves.
Goodness me is that how you get arthritis. I am sure I never did all that stuff! What a naughty pope!

I'm so glad you enjoyed your family's visit. My uncle ran a dairy farm, how I loved to visit! The jokes are great as always. We raised our boys pretty simply, and I do think it was good for them. One time our middle son didn't know what to ask for, for Christmas, he said he had everything he wanted. This was the kid who made toys out of paper and sticks, and was perfectly contented with them.

Hi Merle -- I like Patty's history lesson. That is about how I had it figured.

That poor Pope! And I used to listen to Paul Harvey a lot on the radio in my truck. Now I'm not going and coming from work and so I miss him most days.

It was nice that Kathy and the kids could come for a visit. I lived on a farm, the animals can't be left long at all. We had milk cows!

Tonight I am in Blair, Nebraska. I drove fairly safely and spent a small fortune on gas.
Cheers,
..
I may put up a short new post before I retire tonight.

Merle, my dear friend, I'm so glad your doctor's visit went well. Always good for one's peace of mind, isn't it?

What I wish for you...Oh I do agree with all those things. Sadly, I doubt if any of them will happen in this materialistic, disrespectful and selfish society.

You make us think, as always, Merle.

Enjoy your week.

Hugs and love.

Sounds like you had a wonderful visit with Kathy and the children. That is wonderful news about the test. I wish kids today and future kids had a Paul Harvey to listen to. The ole arthur joke was a hoot. Thanks for making me laugh. Peace
