Ode to Other People.

-Post 515 ~ ~ ~ Monday, 29th September, 2008.

Hi Everyone ~~ I hope the world is treating you nice and the weather pleasant in your part of the world. We had a really nice weekend, but a little cooler today. No heaters is a nice change though and even no pullovers.

Last night I started to do a post, but was much too tired, so I put it in drafts. Just as well, as I had posted it in Herons Nest which hasn't been used for ages. I don't know if the blogger has changed where they go. I thought Third Try was the one on top, but it's not now. Either that or I was really too tired. I'm not sure about that.

The award below was given to me by Lady Di a couple of weeks ago, so it's about time
I acknowledged it and passed it on. Thank you so much Dianne The award is given for
Friendship and Loving Generosity
.
The rules are to pass it on to 8 blogging friends who have brought me laughter, joy and friendship through blogging. I don't like choosing eight out of all my friends, but here goes.
In no particular order

Linda May; Joy Renie Nancy

Gina Patty Lisa Sioux

Thank you to all these friends and everyone else who comes by to say Hello. Thank you.

Ode to Other People. I don't know who wrote this, but I liked it, and found it in a magazine.

Other people's worries might be yours one day
Then you won't be able to turn your face away.
Other people's mountains, you may have to climb.
Life can't go on smoothly -- easy all the time.
Other people's problems -- what are they to you?
Sometime, someday, somewhere - you'll have your troubles too.

Other people's losses, do you really care?
All those hard luck stories -- have you time to spare?
Take the time to listen.
Make it your concern -- seeing what is needed.

Then when comes your turn
And you have to struggle with a cross to bear
You will be rewarded.
There'll be someone there, --Someone to help you,
To hear you and to heed. --Somebody to give you the very word you need.

Now to find some jokes (and return to the larger font)
My dear friend Jeanette sent me this one, not sure it's a joke. Thanks Jan.
It is called "Best Poem in the World."

I was shocked, confused, bewildered
As I entered Heaven's door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor.

But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp --
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
The alcoholics and the trash.

There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor
Who never said anything nice.

Herb, who I always thought
Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
Looking incredibly well.

I nudged Jesus, "What's the deal?"
I would love to hear Your take,
How'd all these sinners get up here?
God must've made a mistake.

"And why's everyone so quiet,
So sombre - give me a clue."
"Hush, child," He said, "they're all in shock.
No one thought they'd be seeing you."

Judge Not. Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian
any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.

The seventy-nine-year-old British knight had just married a sweet, innocent seventeen year old debutante. 'Tell me dear, " said the knight. "Did your mother explain to you the facts of life?" "No, sir, I'm afraid she did not."

"Oh, how awkward, " commented the knight. "I seem to have forgotten them."

A young Royal Air Force officer was returning to his unit late one night when his car had a puncture. As he stood by the roadside in order to change the wheel, he heard a small voice say, "Be careful. You nearly trod on me just then."
Looking down he saw a frog and he asked it, "Did you speak to me just now?"

"Yes, I did," said the frog. and now that you have had to stop, perhaps you'll kindly give me a lift."
"Certainly," said the young officer, "as soon as I have changed the wheel. So hop in."
The frog did so, and presently the officer drove off until he came to the establishment where he was stationed. Then turning to the frog, in the passenger seat, he said, "I'm afraid I can't take you any further, as I am due back right now."

Now the frog said, "Now, I am no ordinary frog. Actually I am a police-woman and I have been changed into a frog by my wicked godmother. But if you take me into your billet and let me sleep on your pillow for one night, the spell will be broken and I shall change back."
"Good heavens," said the officer, "I couldn't do that. I would get into awful trouble if anyone found out."
"Oh, be a sport," said the frog, "Just think of my predicament."
"Thus appealed to, the officer said, "Oh well, I'll take a chance."

And that's the story he told the court marshall.

The vicar was explaining the difference between knowledge and faith to his congregation.

"In the front row," he said, " we have Mr Heather, his wife and three children. Now she
knows they are her children -- That's knowledge. He believes they are his children --
that's faith."

Sally and Jane were talking about the wonderful party they had just attended.

"That George was really hunky. said Sally. "I know." sighed Jane.

"He and I got on very well, said Sally. He wants to see me again and asked for my phone number." "Did you give it to him?" asked Jane.
"I told him it was in the phone book." "Does he know your surname?" asked Jane.

"I told him that was in the phone book too. I can't wait until he rings."

Enough for tonight, friends. I have to compile a shopping list for tomorrow, and I am going to have a couple of days off to do some jobs about the house and garden. I will be
back either Thursday or maybe Friday. Things have been catching up on me lately.
Please take very good care of yourselves and each other, and have a wonderful week.
My love and very best wishes to you all. Until later in the week, Cheers, Merle.

Hi Merle,

You posted some cuties today. Ones to make us think about our life course and of course the jokes to make us smile.

I'm slowing down on my blogging this week and each week from now on also. I too am getting behind in some things I need to do, and some I want to do. It can become a bit time consuming.

Have a wonderful week and enjoy yourself until we meet again.

Ann

Dear Merle, thanks for the award, not sure when I will get it posted. I've been trying not to spend as much time on the computer as I had been. I figure if our youngest daughter and her little girl (8) are moving back here to our place for a while, I won't have as much time to spend playing around with blogs and such, so I'm trying to wean myself. LOL Hope you have a great week away from the computer doing things that need to be done. I know how that is. Until later, sleep well and enjoy your time off. Love, Patty

Hi Merle, Blogger does some funny things sometimes. The one that annys me the most is when I get all the spacing between the different things ok and then all of a sudden just because I alter one thing everything goes to pot like I end up with double spacing between each line or something else like that. I had a right job with it on Sunday night for some reason it was doing alsorts of daft things, in the end I just posted my bit and that was it. Bob.

Hi Merle, yes, I too hope you aren't getting overdone, overworked, or overheated out in your garden.

Adi got shut up in our garage this morning, by mistake, and now she is wondering if she maybe is a car.
I got shut up in the corn cob house, by mistake also, and I began to wonder if I was a corn cob.
On the farm where I grew up we used the corn cobs for burning in the cook stove at cooking time.

My parents made me go to church every Sunday, I began to think I was a Christian! (At a much older age I decided I did want to be one al by myself without my parents help).
Cheers,
..
Those poor frogs get some much blame!

Dear Merle,

First of all, congratulations on the well deserved award, and thank you for passing it on to me as well. I do have this nice award already, but I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Ode to Other People is very nice and so true. Caring about other people is always important, we never know when we'll have the same problems and burdens and will be grateful for the care and kindness of other people. The Best Poem in the World was a surprise! Funny about the frog and the officer. I enjoyed that. I enjoyed all the jokes, as always, dear Merle. I hope you are having a good time on your time off, doing all the things you need to do. Just be careful and come back refreshed and full of new jokes and stories.

Take care, dear friend. See you again next time. And maybe you'll have some nice new pictures of your garden and flowers.

Love and blessings,

Renie

Dear Merle,

Thank you so much for the lovely award! I feel so undeserving right now as I have been snowed under with my work lately and have had little time for blogging. I didn't meet my deadline yesterday, so I am still working hard today and probably will have to pull an 'all-niter' again tonight. My eyes are getting blurry, I am so tired. I am also so far behind in blogging, too. I'll get back to that when things get caught up with my jobs. Have toi make a living first and feed all these kitties of mine! LOL

I loved your jokes and poems. The one about going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car is a favorite of mine! It is so true, isn't it?

Do hope you have been well. You get things caught up now, and I'll try and do the same and maybe we'll see each other the end of the week again. LOL Isn't it terrible that we are all so busy? And....it won't be long and the holidays will be upon us all too soon!

I may not get to visit you as often as I'd like, but do know that you are in my thoughts so often.

Again, I thank you so much for the award. I will proudly display it on my sidebar from you! You are a real sweetie to remember me! Thank you so much!

Love and Lots of (((((( HUGS ))))))

Hello, glad you're having good days. Me too! My son just got to bulgaria, on a missions trip. First time he's even been on a plane and there were 4! He loved flying. Your thing about heaven reminded me of something someone told us once when we were "church hunting." They said there's no point in finding the perfect church, because they wouldn't let us in! Sobering thought, eh?

Hi Merle,
I'm sorry it has taken me so long to respond to this post. I received your email a while ago, but haven't had a chance until now to go hunting through your blog to find the award! Thank you very much for naming me as a recipient. You have so many other readers to choose from - I am flattered!!
