Friends Alphabet.

Post 526 ~ ~ ~ Monday, 27th October, 2008.

Hello My Friends ~~ Another week begins and at the end of it, October goes and in comes November. It is less than 2 months to Christmas, and any day now the stores will start telling us how many days it is. I have done quite a lot of my shopping. Because I do not drive any more, I send for quite a few things over the year from Mail Order companies.

Today, the 27th is Patty Lincoln's birthday. Won't you join me in wishing her a great day
with lots of surprises and gifts etc. Happy Birthday, dear friend.

I am expecting John back in a couple of days. He rang last night but was still in South Australia. He was able to visit three of his four cousins along the way and also his Auntie Jacqui (Peter's first wife). I imagine he will be tired, not sure when he goes back to work.

My other son Geoff came up early Sunday on his own, Jo was tired and getting things ready for their holiday week. They will only be away a week. Geoff spent all morning working in my garden and trimmed, tidied and weeded most of it, for which I am most
grateful. It looks better naturally. We made a quick trip to Bunnings (No sign out Robyn) and bought some strawberry plants and a couple of others.

My friend in the UK Dreadnought mentioned a growing bag. A plastic bag to grow things in. Another friend Jim in the US suggested a bag of potting mix would work as well. Lots of drainage holes in the bottom of it and then holes in top to plant some
strawberries in it. So thanks for the ideas Bob and Jim. See how it goes.

Tonight I have a poem and an alphabet about friends. This was sent by my friend Vicki
So thank you Vicki.

I wake up in the morning, And can hardly wait to see
If I've received a mailing, Addressed from you and me.

I get my 'puter running And much to my delight,
Your poems, jokes and other things Come quickly into sight.

Please keep those e-mails coming, They are so enjoyable you see
Funny things, friendly things Those things you mail to me.

But most of all the fun of it, Is knowing that they came,
From you, my friend, The one I need not name.

Time for some jokes ~ ~ ~ My cousin Bill sent me some good ones today. Thanks Bill.
The Title of the first ones is "Kids are Quick."

Teacher : Maria, go to the map and find North America.
Maria : Here it is.
Teacher : Correct. Now class, who discovered America?
Class : Maria.
<><>

Teacher : John, why are you doing your math multiplication on the floor?
John : You told me to do it without using tables.
<><>
Teacher : Glenn, how do you spell crocodile?
Glenn : K-R-O-K-O-D-I-A-L
Teacher : No, that's wrong.
Glenn : Maybe it is wrong, but you asked me how I spell it.
<><>
Teacher : Donald, what is the chemical formula for water?
Donald : H I J K L M N O.
Teacher : What are you talking about?
Donald : Yesterday you said it was H to O.
<><>
Teacher : Glen, why are you always so dirty?
Glenn : Well, I'm a lot closer to the ground than you are.
<><>
Teacher : Millie, give me a sentence starting with 'I.'
Millie : I is . . . .
Teacher : No, Millie . . . . Always say, 'I am.'
Millie : All right . . . I am the ninth letter of the alphabet.
<><>

Teacher : Now Simon, tell me frankly, do you say prayers before eating?
Simon :
No, sir, I don't have to. My Mom's a good cook.
<><>
Teacher : Clyde, your essay on 'My Dog' is exactly the same as your brother's. Did you
copy his?
Clyde : No, sir. It's the same dog.
<><>
Teacher : Harold, what do you call a person who keeps talking when people are no longer
interested?
Harold : A teacher.
<><>

This one is a puzzle ~ ~ ~ Thanks Bill.

You are driving in a car at constant speed. On your left side is a drop-off', (the ground is
18-20 inches, below the level you are travelling on) and on your right side a fire engine travelling at the same speed as you. In front of you is a galloping horse, which is the same size as your car and you cannot overtake it. Behind you is a galloping zebra.
Both the horse and zebra are also travelling at the same speed as you. What must you do to safely get out of this highly dangerous situation??

Get off the mery-go-round ~ ~ ~ you're drunk.

Two little girls were discussing their respective families. "Why does your grandmother
read her Bible so much ?" asked one of them.

The other replied, "I think she's cramming for her finals."

An Incredible Story. Thank you again Bill.

In 1986, Peter Davies was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern
University.
On a hike through the bush, came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Peter approached it very carefully.
He got down on one knee, inspected the elephant's foot, and found a large piece of wood deeply impedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Peter worked the wood out with his knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down his foot. The elephant turned to face the man and with a rather curious look on it's face, stared at him for several tense
moments. Peter stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned and walked away. Peter never forgot that elephant
or the events of that day.

Twenty years later, Peter was walking through the Chicago zoo there with his teen-aged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Peter and his son Cameron were standing. The large bull elephany stared at Peter, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times, then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.

Remembering the encounter in 1986, Peter could not help wondering if this was the same elephant. Peter summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing, and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder.

The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Peter's legs and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly.

Probably wasn't the same elephant.

Well that is it for tonight, I can hardly keep my eyes open, so off to bed very soon.
Be kind to everyone and have a great week. Love and best wishes to you all.
Cheers, Merle.

G'day Merle,

I so enjoyed your post today. Anything that children say sometimes is so cute. The jokes about the teacher and the children made me chuckle. Children can be so innocent in their reasoning. I guess that is what makes it so funny to us.

Sounds like your garden is coming right along. Those strawberries will taste pretty good in a few months. I know I enjoyed our strawberries this summer.

I also liked that "Friends Alphabet" really cute.

Merle, I hope you enjoy your week and your son arrives home soon.

Hello dear Merle,

It really is hard to believe that we're almost done with October already! The stores here already have all their Christmas stuff on the shelves...I wish they'd at least wait until Halloween is over! lol

We're supposed to get a heavy frost again tonight...some areas north of us have had a couple of snowfalls already so I guess it's just a matter of time before we get some here.

Good for you for ordering a lot of your Christmas gifts online...so many people are doing that these days. I should look into doing that too!!

AHA! So Maria discovered North America??? hehe Loved that joke! That story of Peter and the elephant...I was NOT expecting that ending!!! lol

Take care my friend. xoxo

Dear Merle,
Christmas is just around the corner. After Halloween the time just flies. I have also been doing some shopping early. Feels good not to have to worry about getting out there with the crowds
of people.

So enjoyed today's post.
Take care.
Hugs,

Love the jokes Merle. The Elephant story was horrifying. I hope it didn't really happen but I'm sure it could have. So many people think they can be 'one' with the wild critters. Not me!

Now that elephant joke is one I'd tell, Merle. It's warped enough and made me giggle.

You're doing alright at Bunnings for the moment, Merle. (Must give them a call...)

Hugs.

Sounds like a busy weekend for Geoff. Glad John will be home soon and I bet the fufflies will climb all over him and give him wet kisses. That was a rather interesting trick with the bags that your friends supplied. Always get a laugh from the jokes. Peace be with you.
