A Favourite Recipe.

Post 533 ~~ Saturday, 15th November, 2008.

Hello My Friends ~~ Finally I get to do a post. I seem to have too many visitors popping in lately, which normally is very nice. It's just that I am trying to catch up.

I got a nice surprise this morning - an old friend - Mike's sister Vicki rang and
the three of us went out to lunch at a great restaurant. I have known them for many, many years. Their mother was my best friend, but she died years ago, so Mike is like another son and I give him some cooked meals. It was a nice surprise to see Vicki. She also brought me some gifts, a solar light and a
nice salt and pepper grinder set. And she shouted the lunch. (She can come again!!) It is much quieter now the guys have gone, and I hope they are very nearly home by now as Warren goes back to work on Monday.

This is a bag of potting mix with strawberries planted in it. And lots of drainage holes underneath.
My son, Geoff planted them for me.

My son John bought me a new gazebo as the wind ruined the last one. I hope to get some pavers as a floor
and put a table and chair set in there.

Peter and myself standing behind his new car which is very nice.

Warren and Peter just before they left last Wednesday.

Four lines from Helen Steiner Rice - - called "A Favorite Recipe.

Take a cup of Kindness, mix it well with Love,

Add a lot of Patience and Faith in God above,

Sprinkle very generously with Joy and Thanks and Cheer. . . .

And you'll have lots of "Angel Food" to feast on all the year.
<><>

The next item was sent to me by my good friend Connie aka Meow.
It is called "Pet Owners." Thank you Connie.

The following was posted very low on the refrigerator door.

Dear Dogs and Cats : The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food.
The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Racing me down to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I can fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not
think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort, however.
Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not nesessary to sleep
perpendicular to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues out of the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge in an attempt to open the door.
I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine/feline attendance is not required.

The proper order for kissing is : Kiss me first, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough,

Finally, in fairness, dear pets, I have posted the following message on the front door :

TO ALL NON-PET OWNERS WHO VISIT AND LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR
PETS : 1. They live here. You don't.

2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. That's why they
call it "fur"niture-

3.I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.

4. To you, they are animals. To me, they are adopted sons/daughters who are short,
hairy. walk on all fours and don't speak clearly.

Remember dogs and cats are better than children because they : 1, eat less,
2. don't aske for money all the time, 3 are easier to train 4. usually come when called
5 never ask to drive the car, 6. don't hang out with drug dealers, 7. don't smoke,
8. don't want to wear your clothes, 9. don't have to buy the latest fashions, and
10. don't need a gazillion dollars for college and 11, if they get pregnant, you can sell their children.
<><><>

A man walked into a crowded restaurant and caght the eye. "You know," he said, "it's been ten years since I came in here."

"Don't blame me," the waiter snapped, "I'm working as fast as I can."
<><>

I am sorry but I have to get to bed, my eyes won't stay open tonight and it's after midnight. Have a wonderful weekend my friends. I will do better next time.
My love and best wishes to you all. Cheers, Merle.

Good morning, love the recipe. Good for anyone, anytime.

Photo of Warren and Peter, they look like brothers.

Glad you had a nice visit with Mike and Vicki.

It's raining here and the leaves are falling from the trees. So once it dries off, that means leaf blowing or what I do is use the leaf blower on suck, and suck up the leaves, which in turn grinds them, then I dump them around shrubs for winter. Have a wonderful week-end.

Hello Merle! I'm glad to see you happy with your guests.
I had a lot of work to do and some good and not so good experience in the last time.
I've learned something important from each of them and now I'm ready to go one.
Have a nice Sunday, dear Merle!
Hugs, Sma

Love the" Pet Owners" I need to post those on my door. ha ha
Glad you have had some nice visits and does the term shout out means she paid for lunch?
You must tell me how the strawberries turn out and I might use that method next spring.
The gazebo is very nice and such a pleasant place to have a cuppa. Peace

Nice to have visitors but it is tiring.

Peter and Warren do look similar. That gazebo looks good, nice place to sit and read or maybe snooze!

G'day Merle,

I loved the "Pet Owners" story. I think I will post those last ones on my porch. And as I was reading it, Mr. Jones (the cat) is stretched out over the bed taking up the whole bed. All cats must do that. I had to chuckle as I read it and it described him to a tee.

I want to hear the results of the strawberry patch experiment also. If it works maybe I will try it next spring also. I'm always looking for an easy way to do things.

Have a nice Sunday, Oh yea, I enjoyed the pictures of you and the boys. ;)

More visitors! You are so blessed.
I like the strawberry patch in the bag od planting soil and your new gazebo is really nice. You will sure have fun with it.

Helen Steiner Rice always has some good poems. She must have been a very wise and spiritual lady.

Take care Merle and I hope you can get caught up even if you do get more company.
Hugs!

G'day Merle, we are back at Warren's now (Sunday 5 pm) had a great trip home until we hit a huge storm about an hour out of Brisbane, could barely see the road in front of us!!!
Had a really good trip overall and must thank you and all the others we visited for the hospitality we received.
I had a couple of days that I felt a bit seedy after we left your place, but nothing that forced any change of plans and I'm fine again now.
Have you been back to "WOW" for any more bargains?

Dear Merle,

I am glad you are doing well and had lots of nice company. The pictures are wonderful. Love your new gazebo. I am expecting company at the end of this month and am getting ready for it. I can't wait. A Favorite Recipe is so nice! I love anything by Helen Steiner Rice.

Pet Owners is funny! I have lots of pets, including 5 cats, so I really enjoyed it, and know how true it all is. LOL.

Dear Merle, have to get ready for church soon. I am glad you are doing so well, and enjoying life. Have a wonderful week, dear friend.

Love,

Renie

I knew you and Jen [at Jen's Chronicles] were friends, but you and Jen and Peter and Warren...y'all got visits from the men. How wonderful! That is super having visitors like this.

The strawberry plants look so healthy and green!! I bet you'll get a lot of yield from them. The gazebo is fantastic too. Yes, having pavers and then added some sitting room underneath will be terrific in the summer heat!!

Have a great day Merle.

The recipe is one to follow.

I loved the pet owners front door sign. How true.

Get some rest.

I like your pet owner's 'talk' with his/her pet. Adi used to fit everyone of those items. Now she doesn't race me on the stairs. Katrin barks at us when we get into the shower. We can't figure out whey.

Thanks for the report on Peter and Warren. And your mention of Warren's work to me.

I am amazed that your company takes turns visiting you and hardly overlap with their visits.
Do you ever think perhaps they have a schedule amongst them?

I'm going to read that Pet Owner's one to my two cats and then I will also put it on the fridge. Hopefully it'll stop Mitzi putting her paw in my cheese on toast and stop them from hogging all the bed as well as yowling when they can't get behind a closed door, where I am.

Peter and Warren haven't changed...they still look like two old reprobates (I bet I get a couple of rude comments after that...snigger).

Take care, Merle. Hugs.
