We All Need Somebody.

Post 537 ~ ~ ~ Sunday, 23rd November, 2008.

Hello Everyone ~~ I hope you have all had a great weekend ~ ~ mine has been a busy one with Mike laying pavers under my gazebo and they look nice.
So I was in and out ~ supervising, and also cooking some meals.

Then this afternoon, a few neighbors held a farewell for Lorraine. She moved
on Thursday, but this is the day all of us could come. We all took food and she was given some lovely gifts. And we all signed a huge card for her. I will miss her very much. She tells us she will come back often.

On Friday, she took me to see her new home and it is lovely with a wonderful garden. Lorraine loves gardening and has already planted some tomatos, and
capsicum (bell peppers) and some herbs. She has lots of lovely roses and
all sorts of flowers and trees. The house is so roomy,, and is lovely, so I am very happy for Lorraine.

A Helen Steiner Rice Poem called "We all need Somebody."

And somebody like You can turn the trick.

For our lives are empty and our world is sick.

We have lost our morals and our principles, too.

And with no purpose in life, we are lonely and blue . . .

We need Somebody very much who has a warm and friendly touch

To make us suddenly aware that there are those who really dare.

Some Fun Facts about Australia. From the newspaper.

Australia has the world's largest population of wild camels with one hump.

The Tasmania Devil does exist and it has the jaw stength of a crocodile.

There are over 150 million sheep in Australia, and only 20 million people.

The Great Barrier Reef has a mailbox. You can ferry out there and send a
postcard, stamped with the Great Barrier Reef stamp.

Tasmania has the cleanest air in the world.

When NASA began the launch of astronauts into space. they found out that the pens wouldn't work at zero gravity. Ink won't flow down to the writing surface.

In order to solve this problem, they hired a consulting firm, snd spent onr decade and $12M on the project. They developed a pen that worked at
zero gravity, upside down, under water, in practically any surface
including crystal and in a temperatute range from below freezing to over 300

degrees.
The Russians used a pencil.!!!

Sorry, I have to close. I hope the week ahead is a great one for you all.
Take great care, and be kind to one another. Love and best wishes to you all.
Cheers, Merle.

I really enjoyed your post today, a lot of interesting things to read about. I need one of those pens, but I still use a pencil if the pen won't write. ;)

And a Gazebo! how nice to be able to set and read a book or just have a cup of tea. Enjoy it when the sun shines...

Have a great week.

Looking forward to seeing the finished project. I LoL at the turtle wax joke in previous post and also enjoyed the quotes. My favorite Warner Brothers chacter is Taz so I enjoyed the facts. Do you have a favorite Warner Brothers chacter? We have only a handful of TN tomatoes left and will be all gone this week. Before the frost Prince picked all the green ones and we have let them rippen on the counter. Peace

Ha!Ha!, I was just thinking to myself, why didn't they use a pencil and then I saw the punch line. Was this actually a joke or something they were dumb enough to spend $12m on. And then we wonder why we're in the shape we are in. Common sense is not used any longer. Glad you had a lovely week-end. Hope you're up coming week will be a good one.

Yes, Merle, a pencil would have worked. But had they not done that we would not have ball point pens. We would still be using ink and fountain pens.

There are many other items invented for the space program, most in the area of electronics. NASA and the military had FAX years before civilians, also all the digital things.
I recorded songs on our digital tape recorder at the satellite tracking station way before it was even thought of for CDs.
..
Do you remember the song, Lean on Me?
So just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on

Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

Lean on me...

Cheers,
..

Its a shame to loose the close contact with a friend but she probably will keep in touch.

Hello dear Merle. Short, but sweet! It doesn't surprise me that NASA would spend so much on something so ridiculous! That's the government for you!
Have a great week!

With the latest wave of bankruptcies sweeping the aviation and airline industries, you will find bankers and lawyers sweating over the priority and perfection of their aircraft liens. These bankruptcies seem to have a different character when contrasted with the bankruptcies of 2002 through 2004. Many of the 2008 bankruptcies are operational shut-downs and liquidations rather than restructurings.

I think the main point about a pen versus a pencil is that the one cannot be so easily rubbed out which was rumoured to have happened.
Merle thanks as ever for the jokes. Incidentally I have one of the pens and the do write upside donw not like the original Biro which did not and blobbed and blotched all down the page when I was eleven. I am a year younger than Merle to give you all a time scale. Best wishes.

Hello Merle, from Northwest Florida in the US. I have been seeing your kindly and smiling face at 'Oldladylincoln's' site.
She and Abe are quite the couple!
I just put 'Merle' in my favorites so I will be stopping in to read from time to time.
What a gift you have been given in being blessed with twelve grandbabies! Only two for me so far...

I hope you will post pictures of your gazebo when the pavers are all done. I think it would be a lovely place to have tea and read. Get your self a comfy lounge chair and live it up! I'm sure you will enjoy it.

That one about the USA creating the right pen to write in space, was that true?
I sure hope not, but with spending so outrageous it could be.
Have a great week Merle,
Love, Hugs & Prayers
