Will We Be Missed?

Post 626 ~ ~ ~ Friday, 28th August, 2009.

Hello again My Friends ~~ Here we are again and we have had a lovely
sunny day 19 C which is just over 66 F. We had a few windy days, but
Melbourne had terrible winds which did a lot of damage, trees falling etc.
Lots of calls to rescue service to remove trees from houses and roads.
I hope your weather has been much nicer for you all.

Another blogging friend has a birthday today in the US. Deborah Wilson
I hope you have a wonderful day Deborah. Happy Birthday.

These photos of Peter and me should be in reverse order, but I think
you can work that out. This one was taken in April, 2009.

This one was about 1984, when we were younger.

And the last one was about 1938. Me with my doll called Fairy.
Peter with his Jesty friend. (Jester, I guess.)

A little poem from my Friendship Book which I hope you enjoy.

Some time when you feel your going
Will leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow this simple example
And see how it humbles your soul;
Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Put your hands in it up to the wrists
Pull them out and the hole that remains
Will show how much you'll be missed. Author Unknown.

This scene took place on a British Airways flight between London
and Johannesburg, Sth Africa. A woman, about 50 years old was
seated next to a black man.

Very disturbed by this she called the air hostess. "Obviously, you
do not see it then?" she asked. "You placed me next to a black man.
I did not agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group.
Give me another seat."

"Be calm please," the hostess replied. "Almost all the places on this
flight are taken, I will go and see if another place is available."
The hostess went away and then came back a few minutes later.
"Madam, just as I thought, there are no other available seats in
Economy Class.

I spoke to the captain and he informed me, that there are no seats in
Business Class. All the same, we still have one place in First Class."

Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued, "It is
not usual for our company to permit someone from Economy to sit
in First Class. However, given the circumstances, the captain feels that
that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone so
disgusting.
"

The hostess turned to the black guy, and said, "Therefore, Sir, if you
would like to collect your hand luggage, a seat awaits you in First Class."

At that moment, the other passengers, who'd been shocked by what
they had just witnessed , stood up and applauded.

This is a true story. If you are against racism. plese share this with all
your friends.

WELL DONE< British Airways !!

Thank you Linda for the next one.

A petrol station owner in Dublin was trying to increase his sales,
so he put up a sign that read, "Free sex with Fill-up.
Soon Paddy pulled in, filled his tank and asked for his free sex.

The Owner told him to pick a number from 1 to 10. If he guessed
correctly, he would get his free sex. Paddy guessed 8, and the
proprietor, said "You were close. The number was 7. Sorry No sex
this time."

A week later, Paddy, along with his friend,Mick pulled in for another
fill-up. Again he asked for his free sex.

The proprietor again gave him the same story and asked him to guess
the correct number. Paddy guessed 2 this time. The proprietor said,
"Sorry, it was 3. You were close, but no free sex this time.

As they were driving away, Mick said to Paddy, I think that game is
rigged and he doesn't really give away free sex."

Paddy replied, "No it ain't, Mick. It is not rigged at all. My wife won
twice last week."

Well, I have to close as I can't stay awake. Look after yourselves
dear friends and enjoy your lives. Love and Best wishes to you all.
Cheers, Merle.

Hi Merle!
Wow it's hotter here than your end. I don't know the precise temperature but it's somewhere around 80F.
British Airways are definitely one of the world's better airlines. Also they gave Naomi Campbell a lifetime ban for kicking off when her bags got lost in London Heathrow Terminal 5. (ah, but was THAT racism~?? ...)

Alas, racism is alive and apparently well.

It is obvious to me that racism is rampant here in the US. All of the comments that are derisive of our President have an undercurrent of racism. Unfortunately, those who utters those words are the first to deny it.

All of us need to take a close look at our views and actions to begin to eliminate it.

My first suggestion is to learn to love and respect ourselves so that we can do the same for others. I keep working on eliminating racist views from my own life. It has been a difficult struggle, and I will persevere.

I had seen the racist story before and would hope that those situations would soon be history.

Thanks for sharing.

As for those photos, you have both matured gracefully and it is obvious there is a lot of love in your family.

Dear Merle, love the photos, especially the one of you two when you were just small children, I love black and white photos.

Also liked the airline comment very much. Good for that airline.

My eye is doing much better today. I can't get over how much brighter and clear everything looks with that eye. Not sure yet when I will be getting the other eye done. I'm so thankful we live in a day and age where almost anything can be repaired or fixed on an old worn out body. LOL

Have a good week-end, sleep well. Love, Patty

That one about BA is priceless, Merle and they should be applauded.

As for Naomi Campbell I think she uses her race and her status to be thoroughly objectionable as often as she can just because she thinks she can. More congrats to BA for their response to her latest tantrum and no, I don't believe that was racism. That was giving her what she gave out.

Hi Merle,

Good post. Wow the wind is really rough there. Good thing those big tree next to your home have been removed.

We're been dry and hot here at over 100 degrees. Fall is just around the corner for us, and I can't wait for it to be here.

Take care,
Janice~

Ah how very cute you and Peter were as children. When growing up I knew nothing about racism but then I came to the city to work and it was live and well. I found however, that blacks were more prone to use the race card than whites. My sister use to perform in a clowning ministy and the one black Church they performed at had very racist literature that they handed out. My Mother always taught us children to "Treat others the way you wish to be treated." and she did not believe in racism. Peace

HI Merle:)

Lovely photos of childhood. How time flies?

In India we don't have racism. But we have casteism. High class and low class. So many fights and killings take place on account of this. Although, it is officially banned, yet you will find it being practiced. It is deep rooted in the minds of the people.

I enjoyed the jokes. Many, many thanks.

My best wishes and prayers.
