An update on Merle's health.

Hi to all of you, the loyal band of readers of my Sister Merle's blog, this is her little Brother Peter reporting as requested from her hospital bed.

A couple of photos that Merle probably has never posted

Peter aged ab 3 and Merle ab 5

Merle ab 11, Dad, Peter ab 9, and our maternal Grandmother Aya.

I don't want to alarm anyone but quite frankly she gave us a bit of a scare over this last week, not that we had any particularly bad news from her medical staff, rather the opposite, without being able to pinpoint any major problems she just wasn't responding as expected, so she spent 4 days in ICU while they stabilized her.

The latest report from my Nephews John and Geoff is that they expect to transfer into a normal ward tomorrow which would indicate that the corner has been turned and she will soon be back to her normal cheerful self.

I must take a moment to praise the boys for their care and concern, this doesn't take anything away from her two girls either, its just that John living in the same town has more opportunity to help out and Geoff living in suburban Melbourne has been on hand during this week, to sum up on Merle's family they are all trumps which is what she deserves.

In the tradition of Merle's blog I thought a short prayer might be in order.

A Prayer

Dear Lord,

So far today, I am doing all right.

I have not gossiped, lost my temper, been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish or self-indulgent.

I have not whined, bitched, cursed or eaten any chocolate. I have not even charged on my credit card.

Thank you for that!

However, I am going to get out of bed in a few minutes, and I will need a lot more help after that.

Amen.

Again upholding tradition I thought I should include a joke, this is one of her favourites.. I know because she sent it to me.

From Merle

As a young minister, I was asked by a funeral director to hold a graveside service for a homeless man, with no family or friends.

The funeral was to be held at a cemetery way back in the country, and this man would be the first to be laid to rest there.

As I was not familiar with the backwoods area, I became lost; and being a typical man did not stop to ask for directions. I finally arrived an hour late.

I saw the back hoe and the crew, who were eating lunch, but the hearse was nowhere in sight. I apologized to the workers for my tardiness, and stepped to the side of the open grave, where I saw the vault lid already in place. I assured the workers that I would not hold them up for long, but this was the proper thing to do.

The workers gathered around, still eating their lunch. I poured out my heart and soul. As I preached the workers began to say "Amen", "Praise the Lord", "Glory" and such. I preached and I preached, like I'd never preached before; from Genesis all the way to Revelation -- I wasn't going to let this homeless man go without someone taking notice of the service.
I closed the lengthy service with a prayer and walked to my car.

As I was opening the door and taking off my coat, I overheard one of the workers saying to another, "I ain't never seen anything like that before and I've been putting in septic tanks for more than 20 years."

Thank you so much for updating us about Merle's medical progress Peter. I'm very relieved to hear she has come through the rough patch and and is now stabilized. I imagine you all were a little tense during the time she wasn't responding as had hoped. She is one tough cookie...and I know she'll bounce back in all her glory. Please give her my love and we all are anxious for her to return to her blog and fill us in when she can. Thanks again for the update Peter....those pics are wonderful. Hugs, Joy

Sorry to hear the Merle is in the hospital but happy to hear she's on the mend. My grandma went into the hospital this week and we were worried about her too. But she's 99 and anytime someone that age goes into the hospital you have to worry.

I'll include a little prayer for Merle when I say my bedtime prayers tonite.

Thanks from me too, Peter. I'd planned on visiting Merle on Monday if she was okay, but life at this end got in the way, and I never even got around to calling the hospital to see how she was. Probably just as well, as they wouldn't have told me much, and I'd be wondering what was going on. Love and hugs to the dear lady.
