Carrots, Eggs, and Coffee.

Post 766 ~ ~ ~ Sunday, 5th February, 2012.

Hello again my friends, it is nice to be back with you here in the
blogging world. I hope your lives are going well and your health
is as good as can be expected. I am doing OK, managing but
heartily sick of the walking frame, which is still essential to my
getting around. I had a dizzy turn in Safeway last Tuesday, and
was sorry to do that to Leonie who takes me shopping, A staff
member must have seen it and got me a glass and bottle of water.
He then tore the label off the bottle so I wouldn't have to pay
for it. It is lovely to know there are lots of good people in this
wonderful world of ours. The bad ones get on to all the media.

First item was sent by my good friend Lady Di. Thanks Dianne
for Carrots, Eggs and Coffee.

You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again.

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her
life and how things were so hard for her. She didn't know how
she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired
of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved
a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with
water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to the
boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs
and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit
and boil, without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished
out the carrots, and placed them in a bow. She pulled out the eggs
and placed them in a bowl.

Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to
her daughter, she asked, "What do you see?"

"Carrots, eggs and coffee," she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots.
She did and noticed that they were soft. The mother then asked
her to take an egg and break it. After pulling the shell off, she
observed the hard boiled egg.

Finally the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The
daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter asked
"What does it mean, Mother?"

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the
same adversity: boiling water.

Each reacted differently. The carrots went in strong, hard and
unrelenting. However after being subjected to boiling water, they
softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile, it's thin
outer shell had protected the liquid interior, but after sitting in
the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee
beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water
they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks
on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a
coffee bean?

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but
with pain and adversity do I wilt and be come soft and lose my
strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a tender heart, but changes with the
heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, or a
financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and
stiff? Does my shell look the same but on the inside am I bitter
and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water,
the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it
releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things
are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you
elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are
you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to
make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough
hope to make you happy.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything,
they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

A clever one from my blogging friend Jim. Thank you Jim for
Milk and Eggs This is a story that is perfectly logical to all males.

A wife asks her husband, "Could you please go shopping for me
and buy one carton of milk, and if they have eggs, get six."

A short time later
.the husband comes back with 6 cartons of milk.
The wife asks him, "Why did you buy 6 cartons of milk?"

He replied, "They had eggs."

(I'm sure you're going back to read this again.)

One from my Aussie blogging friend Lee. Thak you Lee.

A Police STOP at 2 am.

An elderly man is stopped by the police around 2.00 am and is
asked where he is going at his time of night.

The man replies, " I am on my way to a lecture about alcohol
abuse and the effects it has on the human body, as well as
smoking and staying out late."

The officer then asks, "Really? Who would be giving that lecture at
this time of night?"

The man replies, " That would be my wife."

Another from Lady Di. - A repeat but a good one. Thnks Dianne for
"Husband Down aisle 7."

A husband and wife are shopping at their local Wal-Mart.The husband
picks up a case of Budweiser and puts it in their cart.
"What do you think you are doing?" asks the wife.
"They are on sale, only $10 for 24 cas." he replies.

"Put them back, we can't afford them," demands the wife and they
continue shopping. A few aisles further on, the woman picks up
a $20 jar of face cream and puts it in the basket.
"What do you think you are doing?" asks the husband.

"It's my face cream. It makes me look beautiful," replies the wife.
Her husband retorts,, "So does 24 cans Budweiser and it's half
the price."
He never knew what hit him !!!

One from Mountain Wings called "The Battle."

A man was telling his friend that he and his wife had a serious
argument the night before.

"But it ended," he said, "when she came crawling to me on
her hands and knees."

"What did she say?" asked the friend.

He replied, " She said, "Come out from under that bed, you
coward."

Thank you Warren for "Irish Funeral." Thanks Mate.

A man was leaving a convenience store with his morning coffee
when he noticed a most unusual funeral procession approaching
the nearby cemetery.

A black hearse was followed by a second black hearse about
50 feet behind the first one. Behind the second hearse was a
solitary man walking a dog on a leash. Behind him, a short
distance back were about 200 men walking in single file.

The man couln't stand the curiosity. He respectfully approached
the man walking the dog and said, "I am so sorry for your loss,
and this may be a bad time to disturb you, but I've never seen
a funeral like this. Whose funeral is it?"

"My wife's"
"What happened to her?"
"She yelled at me and my dog attacked and killed her."

He inquired further, "But who is in the second hearse?"
The man answered, "My mother-in-law. She was trying to help
my wife when the dog turned on her."

A very poignant and touching moment of brotherhood and
silence passed between the two men.

"Can I borrow the dog?"

The man said, "Get in line."

I came across this good quote the other day and want to share it

The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.
~~ Abraham Lincoln.

Well that is is for this post, I hope you found something of
interest here. Take great care of yourselves and be kind to one
another. MY love and best wishes to you all, Merle.

I am sorry that you had a sinking spell at the grocery. It was nice of the employee to help you. So let me see, if I peel the labels off a case of water in the store does that mean I don't have to pay for it? Okay, I couldn't resist. LOL

Still most happy that you are back and on the mend.

I hate to admit this but as much as I wish I could change the water, I am a bit more of an egg or a carrot.

Well, Merle, you still aren't too speedy with the walking but you sure are back in style with your blogging and jokes!

One doesn't realize how weak one is after a prolonged illness or being down. I think that is how my back crunched, my support muscles were week from getting over my knee. BE CAREFUL with yourself, don't overdo things!

Lady Di is a jewel with the good things she finds to send you. I loved this one. Then until Abe Lincoln I laughed all the way through the rest of your post.

Cheers,
..

Oh no you forgot about Clint Eastwood. Do let him whisper in your ear and not over do it again. You can get in big trouble when dizzy. Thanks for sharing my merger e mails with your bloggers. I hate to admit it I did have to re read that joke. Also, thank Jim for his kind words. Now repeat 3 times Clint Eastwood, Clint Eastwood, Clint Eastwood. Wishing you ENOUGH. Peace

Hi Merle, hope things have settled down a bit, no more dizzy spells and the stove issue sorted out.
I tried everything to leave a comment with WV turned on... no success so have turned it off, delete any spam, we can turn it back on later.

Hi again, you probably worked out that it wasn't you leaving the comment above!!!
I'm guessing others were having trouble commenting too as you had only 8 when I tried first.

Merle, that's not good with the dizzy spell - maybe you are trying to do too much too soon? But it will go away soon as you get stronger. Sorry I didn't get back to you - I've been sick too - first with pneumonia and then night before last, I had to go to the emergency room because I had an acute allergic reaction to St. John's Wort. But I'm feeling better now.

You take good care and I pray that you can come off of that walker soon. I don't like them [they are not sturdy - my Mom stumbled while using one and broke her wrist] so please be very very careful...

I loved the Coffee Bean and Irish Funeral!
