The Place

Post   797  ~ ~ ~  Sunday,  26th August,  2012.

Hello my friends ~ I hope the world is treating you all right and that your lives are happy and going well for you.  I am fine and doing really well. Fluff and I are getting along well.
She loves getting patted and petted and will eat practically anything. - lamb, pork and chicken.
John is on his way home from Alice Springs on his motor bike.  It has been a long ride this time with at least 200 other riders from Victoria, N.S.W. and South Australia. Others came from Western Australia  and Queensland.
It was a ride to raise funds and awareness of mental illness and where to get help etc from the Black Dog Institute.  I think John will get home tomorrow night.

Well to get on with tonight's post, The Place is a Mountain Wings article.
I can remember my parents carrying me to this place many times and how much fun I had as a little boy, and I'm sure you do to.

Even though it seems like you could stay there all day and night, they do have a closing time and then you have to go home.
The place I am talking about is outside. No I'm not talking about a town fair or carnival that is outside. I am simply talking about just plain old outside.
The rides I was referring to are tricycles and bicycles. The fun things to see, do and play with are flowers, dirt, sticks, and pine cones.

The closing time is when the lights turn down (the Sun). The memories are priceless, but the cost is also priceless.
That's right, it is free to go outside. I took my kids outside the other day and what a time they had. The older we get in life the more it takes to entertain and fascinate us. Most adults would not get the same thrill out of an amusement park as kids get out of going outside.
Many times what we think our kids want and need are not what they actually want and need. A child would grow tired of playing with a $1,000 remote-controlled helicopter by themselves faster than they would just blowing daffodils into the wind and watching it's miniature parachutes land.

You see with kids, it's not just what they have or do more so than it is with whom they are with.
Children value time and attention from parents much more than gifts. I bought each of my young boys their own set of drums. Sure they played with them a lot the first week, but after that they had more fun when I got down on the kitchen floor with them and turned over three pots as if they were drums and beat on them with them with spoons and spatulas.
Don't mistake me, I never said Mom enjoys hearing the "noise," nor does she enjoy the thought of us beating on her good pots and pans. But it warms her heart just to know her kids have a tight bond with their father.
I bought my kids the best brand new $300 video game with extra controls, the latest games and even got extra memory to save the place in the game. A week later, I packed it all up and took it back to the store. I had just spent over $500 on a game that had the latest 3D graphics.
I was frustrated on one hand but learned a valuable lesson on the other. I took them outside, got some pine-cones and handed them a stick. I was the pitcher and they were the batters. No game on the expensive console could match the laughter and enjoyment that my kids showed while knocking a home run (hitting the pine-cone out of the yard) with a stick.
The next time you want to give your kids the very best in entertainment, try a neat place called outside.

Another from Mountain Wings.  Think about this one.

The Chandelier ========
Old Rev. Johnson was begging his board of directors to buy a new chandelier for the church. Pleading for more than an hour, he sat down sullen and hopeless in his ambition to acquire a chandelier.
Then the elder president of the board stood up. "What're we wasting time talkin' for?" he said rhetorically.
"Foist of all, a chandelier, ... we ain't got nobody who could even spell it.
Second, we ain't got nobody who could even play it.
And third, what we need most in the church is more light!"

One from my friend Lee in Queensland.  Thank you Lee.
: The power of prayer...Hopefully something that will lighten your day
A preacher said, "Anyone with 'special needs' who wants to be prayed over, please come forward to the front by the altar."

With that, an Aboriginal man got in line, and when it was his turn, the Preacher asked, "Mulrunji, what do you want me to pray about for you?"

Mulrunji replied, "Preacher, I need you to pray for help with my hearing."

The preacher put one finger of one hand in Mulrunji's ear, placed his other hand on top of Mulrunji's head, and then  prayed and prayed and prayed.

He prayed to the 'Almighty' for Mulrunji, and the whole congregation joined in with great enthusiasm. After a few minutes, the preacher removed his hands, stood back and asked,

"Mulrunji, how is your hearing now?"

Mulrunji answered, "I don't know. It ain't 'til next week!"

Thank you dear Margaret for the next one. I love it.

I was visiting my son and daughter-in-law last night when I asked if I could borrow a newspaper.
'This is the 21st century, old man,' my son said. 'We don't waste money on newspapers. Here, you can borrow my iPad.'
I can tell you, that bloody fly never knew what hit it...

My dear friend Jeanette sent me this one.  Thanks Jan.
  Subject:  Just forward it
A man was dining alone in a fancy restaurant and there was a gorgeous redhead sitting at the next table...He had been checking her out since he sat down, but lacked the nerve to talk with her.********************

Suddenly she sneezed, and her glass eye came flying out of its socket towards the man. He reflexively reached out, grabbed it out of the air, and handed it back.

'Oh my, I am so sorry,' the woman said, as she popped her eye back in place. 'Let me buy your dinner to make it up to you.'
**********************
They enjoyed a wonderful dinner together, and afterwards they went to the theatre followed by drinks... They talked, they laughed, she shared her deepest dreams and he shared his. She listened to him with interest.
*************************
After paying for everything, she asked him if he would like to come to her place for a nightcap and stay for breakfast. They had a wonderful, wonderful time.
************************
The next morning, she cooked a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. The guy was amazed. Everything had been so incredible!
*************************

'You know,' he said, 'you are the perfect woman.. Are you this nice to every guy you meet?'

'No,' she replies. . ........
Wait for it ...... .....
It's coming ...... .....
The suspense is killing you, isn't it?

She said .... ......:

'You just happened to catch my eye.'

(Oh shut up, and just forward it!)

Well my friends it is time to close for this week.  Look after yourselves and each other.
My love and best wishes to you all. Special thoughts and prayers for those affected by the wild fires in the United States. I hope they are soon under control. Cheers, Merle.

Hi Merle, I'm guessing the joke from Jan was in a BOX when you posted it??? If you are posting a fwd or anything that has a box surrounding it get rid of the box before posting it, You only need to copy it toWord and then paste it to your blog to do this.... Good luck.

Hello Merle. I loved the 'prayer' HAHAHA
Glad to hear you are still doing well and having fun with Fluff. I sure enjoy my two little doggies.
Our evenings are getting cool with the chill of autumn. I brought in all of my Orchid Cacti today and a few other plants that like warmer temps. I have two Orchid Cacti blooming and a third with tiny buds that I think may be a night blooming Cereus.
A big buck ate most of my garden so there won't be any canning this year. I still have enough left from last year so I won't go without.

I suppose it's like spring in your neck of the woods.
Take good care of yourself.
Love you

Hi again Merle. In answer to the question you left on my blog, I don't have a basement but have a little space in my computer room where I keep the 11 Orchid Cacti. The other plants I just distribute around the house because I like the look of having some green inside. The Orchid Cacti are quite large, some have stems over four feet long. I was going to cut them off last winter but decided to leave them and I'm glad I did because they are covered in buds. The other two that are blooming are red and have very large blossoms the size of a saucer. They do take up a lot of space and I have thought of getting rid of them but I love the blossoms so much I just keep hanging on! Plant lover I am.

Hi Merle, I always enjoy reading your blog, and am pleased to see you are doing so well. Isn't it lovely to feel a little bit of Spring in the air !! We are heading off on Sunday for a month long trip to the Red Centre, visiting Coober Pedy, Ayers Rock, The Olgas, Kings Canyon, Palm Valley, Alice Springs & surrounds, the Oodnadatta Track, Lake Eyre, the Flinders Ranges, and whatever else we discover along the way. Can't wait. I hope to Facebook along the way, internet/phone reception allowing, so keep an eye open. Will be in touch when we return. Stay well, much love from all of us to you xxxx
