My Mother Said To Me.

Post 813 ~~Tuesday,  8th January,  2013

Hello My Friends ~~ A bit late for my Sunday post as I have had a few computer problems
And also have had a horrible week, so please forgive me.

My son-in-law passed away after a long illness with kidney problems and my poor daughter
is devastated and you can't imagine how sad I have been to hear her small voice and how
she can't sleep as for four years she has slept with one ear cocked to listen for her husband
so now maybe she can sleep, from sheer exhaustion. His funeral was yesterday and went off well with lots of hugs and crying together.  Plenty from myself for my Julie. Her husband was in agony so that pain will be gone now thankfully.  RIP Laurie.

First item tonight is from Mountain Wings.

My Mother Said To Me
=====================

My mother said to me, "If you are a soldier, you will become a
general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope."
Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso.

Another from Mountain Wings Called ~~ Tomorrow ~~
 A bit late for this year and was meant to be an earlier post which
I missed posting. Sorry my friends ---Let's pretend.

Tomorrow begins a new year. It's really just another day.
Nothing changes really.
Most will continue on the path that they are on. Many will make New Year's resolutions
and the vast majority of them will be broken by Valentine's Day.

Today is my birthday. It's a special day but it's really just another day. I will continue on the path that I've been on for years. I'm trying to improve, which is the path that I've been on

That's the path that I shall continue to be on. If you are not where you think you should be, I would not suggest that you try to change things tomorrow.

Why...because that is what most other people will do and they do it simply because it's supposedly a special day. Your change of path will only come when either you make up your mind that you are going on a new path because you are determined to change OR the pain becomes unbearable on the current path.

The problem with the latter is that once the pain eases you often return to the old path. The true BIRTHday is the day that you move from one path to another one (a better one) and stay on it. When that day comes mark it down on your calendar, for that day is really the special one.

Kids Advice on Love and Marriage
=================================

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHOM TO MARRY?
You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you
like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she
should keep the chips and dip coming.
* Alan, age 10

No person really decides before they grow up who they're going
to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out
later who you're stuck with.
* Kirsten, age 10

WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?
Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER
by then.
* Camille, age 10

No age is good to get married at.
You got to be a fool to get married.
* Freddie, age 6

HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be
yelling at the same kids.
* Derrick, age 8

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?
Both don't want any more kids.
* Lori, age 8

WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?
Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to
know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen
long enough.
* Lynnette, age 8

On the first date, they just tell each other lies, and that
usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
* Martin, age 10

WHAT WOULD YOU DO ON A FIRST DATE THAT WAS TURNING SOUR?
I'd run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the
newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead
columns.
* Craig, age 9

WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?
When they're rich.
* Pam, age 7

The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess
with that.
* Curt, age 7

The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should
marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do.
* Howard, age 8

IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?
I don't know which is better, but I'll tell you one thing.
I'm never going to have sex with my wife.
I don't want to be all grossed out.
* Theodore, age 8

It's better for girls to be single but not for boys.
Boys need someone to clean up after them.
* Anita, age 9

HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED?
There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there?
*Kelvin, age 8

"And the #1 Favorite is........"

HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?
Tell your wife that she looks pretty,
even if she looks like a truck.
*Ricky, age 10

I am thankful your daughter has you for emotional support and to help her through this.

Those children's comments on marriage are priceless. Thanks.

Dear Merle, so sad to hear of your loss. Your description of poor Julie sleeping with one ear cocked to listen for her husband is familiar to me, as I have spent the past 10 years in a similar fashion, listening to see if Ken is still breathing.
His Mum died on New Year's Eve (not quite 100 years old), and although we will all miss her, we are grateful that we had her in good health for so long. So it isn't as sad as the passing of your SIL..
Hugs,
Gina and Ken.

On a brighter note I trust it's good to have your little brother down for a visit. We look forward to seeing him soon.

Hi Merle ~~ I am sorry for Julie, you, and for the family in the loss of Laurie. We haven't had it happen but I know that our kids and the family are supposed to out-live us.

I am glad that Peter is there to be of help and consolation for you and Julie. It seems he is always there when you are hurting or have troubles.
..
BTW, Mrs. Jim and I are in Sidney tonight. We will be heading back for Houston (Texas) Monday afternoon.

We had a nice cruise from Auckland, around NZ to Hobarth, Melbourne, and now Sidney. If I ever run away to stay it will to Sidney.

Hello Merle. Sorry I have not been by for ages, but I hardly forgot you. (Distracted, more like.)

I'm very sorry for yours and your daughter's loss. Death is a horrible thing...

I'm TRYING not to take "that stuff" for new year. Far as I know, if I tested myself, I'd be heroin-clean today... wow.

My mental health is crap. Still. So when I post that I'm "deliriously happy" (which I was yesterday and I don't feel bad right now) I'm actually "hypomanic"... I remember posting something about was I bipolar years ago and you said see your doctor, well I went severely manic in early 2010 and haven't been right since. But I'm OK though. It's a choice between a boring life on medication or a more turbulent one off it. I'm still not sure which I'd prefer (I hate to admit it, but probably I'd pick turbulent over dull)... but if it got too bad again I'd be back to those pills like a shot...

ANYWAY Merle I hope you are OK and that your health is good... take care

Ukh and guess what that ******* doctor said was wrong with me? Schizophrenia AND manic depression! I've never been so "peeved" on leaving a doctor's office in my life. I went home and cried, despite just having been diagnosed with "elevated mood"... so that was a first. Anyway sorry to go on... (or did you know this? I can't remember)...

TAKE CARE MERLE XX
