Support for the Church.

Hi Folks ~ I hope the weekend has been a good one for you.
It is all over here, as it’s Sunday evening. It has been one
awful windy day here, with a couple of very brief showers.
Everything that could rattle, did and it sounded like a day to be
indoors, with the music turned up. There will be some sweeping
up to do tomorrow, leaves and bits of tree seeds etc.

I was lucky, because some places lost trees and parts of the roof
of their homes and the emergency services were inundated with
calls for help. The first serious bushfires this year were fanned
by strong winds in New South Wales near Newcastle and the
surrounding area. NSW is between Victoria and Queensland.
We expect fires later on, but not this early !!

The piece I have chosen is “Support for the Church”,
but it is a bit tongue in cheek, I would say.

I bought some petrol, I went to the Show,
I bought some new valves for my big radio,
I bought candy and peanuts, a block of ice-cream,
And while my cash lasted, life sure was a scream.

It takes careful spending to make it go round –
One’s method of finance must always be sound,
With habits quite costly, it’s so hard to save - - -
My wife spent five pounds on a permanent wave.

The Church came round begging – it sure made me sore !
I said a few words --- I told them what for !!
The nerve of the place --- they forgot all the past - - -
I gave them One Pound the year before last.

Some jokes that Warren sent me, thanks Warren.

Moe: "My wife got me to believe in religion."
         Joe: "Really?"
Moe: "Yeah. Until I married her I didn't believe in hell."

A man is recovering from surgery when a nurse asks him
how he is feeling. "I'm O.K. but I didn't like the four letter
word the doctor used in surgery," he answered. "What did
         he say," asked the nurse.
         "OOPS!"
     _______________________________________________________________________

While shopping for vacation clothes, my husband and I
passed a display of bathing suits. It had been at least ten
years and twenty pounds since I had even considered
buying a bathing suit, so I sought my husband's advice.
"What do you think?" I asked. "Should I get a bikini or an
         all-in-one?"
"Better get a bikini," he replied. "You'd never get it all in
           one.”

A few bits from my book “Pocket Positives,” which has more
than 2000 quotes from which to choose.

You may believe that you are responsible for what you do,

but not for what you think. The truth is that you are

responsible for what you think, because it is only at this

level that you can exercise choice. What you do comes

from what you think. ---A Course in Miracles.

There is a time to be born, and a time to die, says Solomon,
and it is a memento of a truly wise man; but there is an
interval of infinite importance between thesetwo times.

---Leigh Richmond.

Take time to think - - -it is the source of power.

Take time to play - - -it is the secret of perpetual youth.

Take time to read - - -it is the fountain of wisdom.

Take time to pray - - -it is the greatest power on earth.

Take time to laugh - - -it is the music of the soul.

Take time to give - - -it is too short a day to be selfish.

I hope you found something of interest folks, and I hope

you all have a wonderful week ahead. Take care, Merle.

Love the one with the four letter word the doctor used: "oops", that is becoming more and more a reality here in Tampa, Florida...lol These doctors apparently don't know their left side from their right, they have to mark the patience's leg with a permanent pen, go figure. lol

Sorry to hear about your storm, hope your place fares pretty well. Oh, and my brother needs no encouragement! I almost died when I saw he had commented. lol

We've had some severe storms here in the last couple of days too Merle...even some tornado warnings and flooding in the area. My little end of the world seems to be okay other than a leak in my office roof. Cripes! Stay dry and happy my sweet friend...((((((((Many hugs)))))))))

Bill really laughed at the OOPS joke! He's going to tell it to the Dr. when he goes for his recheck!
Pamela says that in FL they mark the part (side) for surgery with marker..
They do the same thing here in CA!!
Thanks for the laugh today!!

Hello dear Merle...glad to hear the storm wasn't too bad, better to have to sweep leaves and bird seeds than the roof of the house! lol It's been very gloomy here the last few days, lots of rain too. Loved your post...still laughing at the one about his wife making him believe in religion! lol Hugs xox

Hi Merle -- I laughed at all your jokes, Warren's too. I hear that where Warren lives there is a huricane. He hasn't posted lately, maybe he is taking shelter.
No, you don't write too much. I just don't get around very fast. I need to learn some secrets from people who have a lot of readers about nursing them so they know they are wanted.

Hi Merle, good post I like the setout too, not as many large spaces, though I do prefer the first paragraphs where the text lines are not separated. why don't you have a go at posting some photos, (or even cartoons.)

Hi Merle, glad you survived the winds. It's very windy here too and we have had bushfires but not as bad as Sydney so far. According to the Met Office, we could have a storm, it's humid enough for it but it may be later this evening. No sign of anything like a storm at the moment.

Thanks for the jokes which make us laugh and the quotes which make us think.

Hugs

Robyn xoxo

Hi Merle, I didn't realise you were around where the fires have been - terrible, and so early... it must be a worry.

I arrived in Adelaide from NZ about a week after the nasty ash-wednesday fires and it was so much damage to the lovely countryside.

Thanks for the posts, lovely sunday reading.
:-)
