What is a Policeman ?

Post 66 - - - - - Tuesday, 14 November 2006.

Hello Everyone ~~ I hope all is well with you and your loved ones. All OK here, shopping done and put away, and so far I haven’t thought of anything I have forgotten. So far, so good.

After that I had an appointment at the podiatrist at 2 pm, so

I got my taxi and went there. Waited one hour and then asked

what was going on - - and guess what, it was meant to be 3 pm.

So I won’t do that again, usually do not have to wait long.

When I got home, I checked my calendar and guess what ??

I had written down 3 pm. Old age or something is coming to get me !! I think a lot of the problem was worrying about my cousin who had bone scans and ultra sound yesterday and today

got the results. Thank God, all clear there, so just have to keep a check on the prostate by 3 monthly blood tests, so I am

so relieved about that, as was he, of course.

Amongst my shopping today I bought some green bean plants

and tomorrow another friend is coming to plant them for me.

I am very fortunate to have some helpful friends, and I do very much appreciate and love them. The same goes for my

blogging friends, I have become very fond of so many of you.

Thank you for your friendship, it is appreciated.

Tonight, I have selected “What is a Policeman?”

A policeman is the law in a smart uniform with shiny buttons.

He is perhaps the man next door, fond of his garden, and things green and growing. He is the friendly face when you’re stuck on a lonely road- –he is the stern frown when you’ve done

something you shouldn’t have.

Little boys idolise him –- bigger boys respect him – little girls

are in awe of him – big girls just adore him – daughters regard

him as just “Daddy” – sons worship and one day want to BE him.

He is useful for signing papers, holding up traffic, giving stray

dogs to, frightening naughty children with, and being a natural

for newspaper cartoonists when they ’ve been caught in the rush-hour traffic snarl.

But --- just imagine the place without him !!

<><><><>

The boss of a big company needed to call one of his employees about an urgent problem with one of the main computers. He dialed the employees home number and was greeted with a child’s whispered, “Hello?”

Feeling put out at the inconvenience of having to talk to a child

the boss asked, “Is your Daddy home ?”

“Yes,” whispered the small voice. “May I talk to him ?” the man asked. To the surprise of the boss, the small voice said, “No.”

Wanting to talk to an adult, he asked, “Is your Mommy home?”

“Yes,” came the answer. “May I talk with her ?” Again the small voice whispered, “No.”

Knowing it was unlikely that a young child would be left home alone, he decided to leave a message with the person watching the child. “Is there anyone there besides you ?” he asked.

“Yes whispered the child, “A policeman.” May I speak to the

policeman ?”

“No, he’s busy,” whispered the child. “Busy doing what?” asked the boss. “Talking to Daddy and Mommy and the fireman.”

Growing concerned and even worried as he heard what sounded like a helicopter through the phone, the boss asked, “What is that noise?”

“A hello-copter,” the whispering voice answered. “What is going on there ?” the boss asked, now alarmed.

“In an awed whispering voice the child answered, “ The search

team just landed the hello-copter.”

Alarmed, concerned and more than a little frustrated, the boss asked, “Why are they there ?”

Still whispering, the young boy replied along with a muffled giggle : “They’re looking for me !!”

These are things people actually said in court, word for word, -

Judge : “Well sir, I have reviewed this case and I’ve decided to give your wife $775.00 a week.”

Husband : “that’s fair your honor. I’ll try to send her a few bucks myself.”

Q : What is the date of your birth ?

A. : July fifteenth.

Q : “What year ?”

A. : Every year.

Q : “What gear were you in at the moment of impact ?”

A : “Gucci sweats and Reeboks.

Q : Did you blow your horn or anything ?”

A : After the accident ?

Q : Before the accident.

A : Sure, I played for 10 years. I even went to school for it.

Q : Trooper, when you stopped the defendant, were your red and blue lights flashing ?

A : Yes.

Q : Did the defendant say anything when she got out of her car?

A : Yes Sir.

Q : What did she say ?

A : What disco am I at ?

Q : Now Doctor, isn’t it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doen’t know about it until the next morning ?

Q : Were you present when your picture was taken ?

I treasure you and your friendship too, Merle; you are a special lady. I've done the appointment mix-up before; at least it was at 3pm and not 1pm. I'm glad your cousin's scans were clear, life is too precious.

Your policeman joke reminds me of what is hanging in my internists office. It's a poem written by the doctor's son, explaining what M.D. stands for: My Dad, not just medical doctor.

Have a wonderful day! Love & hugs!

Even when I try to keep a very detailed list something sometimes slips by but fortunately the market is just a mile or so up the road. Glad your cousin got a good report. If I don't keep the doc appointment cards in order on the refrigerator I will forget any or all. ec

I had fun catching up on your posts Merle. Yes, our policemen and women are special people. Loved the court quotes and all your jokes :)
I'm so glad your cousin got a good report. Praise the Lord for that!
Sorry you had to wait but early is better than late! :) It's the times we forget appointments entirely that are embarrassing :)

Dear Merle, you are a very special friend and I love hearing from you and reading your blog.

I have two uncles who were policeman and my clearest memory is of one uncle (who was actually Superintendant of Police) and my father insisting on watching Basil Brush every time it was on TV and roaring their heads off laughing!

I also had a boyfriend who was a detective sargeant and the things he and his mates got up to. I think they're worse than the rest of us!!
