The Gift of Friendship.

Post 593 ~ ~ ~ Monday, 27th April, 2009.

Hi Everyone ~~ It is quite cold here ~~ the top temperature was 12 C
which is about 54 F and it came down so low very suddenly AND we got
some good rain --about 1 1/2 inches. It sure freshened things up.
and the place looks better for it.

I had a lovely surprise on Saturday. My dear friend, Jeanette and her sister
Pauline came to visit and we all had a nice time. Our friend Gwen was missing
and was missed, Some photos below.

Pauline and Jeanette

Pauline and Merle.

Jeanette and Merle.

It was great to see those two, and I am glad they are going to Adelaide for 2 weeks.

I have a Helen Steiner Rice Poem tonight called The Gift of Friendship.

Friendship is a priceless gift that cannot be bought or sold,
But its value is far greater than a mountain made of gold---
For gold is cold and lifeless, it can neither see nor hear,
And in the time of trouble it is powerless to cheer...
It has no ears to listen, no heart to understand,
It cannot bring you comfort or reach out a helping hand---
So when you ask God for a gift, be thankful if He sends
Not diamonds, pearls or riches, but the love of real true friends.

Top Twenty International Rules of Manhood. From my local paper.

1. Under no circumstances may 2 men share an umbrella.

2. Any man who brings a camera to a bachelor party may be legally killed and eaten.

3. Unless he murdered someone in your family, you must bail a friend out of jail within
12 hours.

4. If you've known a guy for more than 24 hours, his sister is off limits forever unless you actually marry her.

5, Moaning about the brand of free beer in a buddy's fridge is forbidden, However complain at will if the temperature is unsuitable.

6. No man shall ever be required to buy a birthday present for another man. In fact, even remembering your buddy's birthday is entirely optionable.

7. On a road trip, the strongest bladder determines pit stops, not the weakest.

8. When stumbling upon other guys watching a sporting event, you may ask the score
but you may never ask who's playing.

9, It is permissible to drink a fruity alcohol drink only when you're sunning on a tropical
beach... and it's delivered by a topless model and only when it's free.

10. If a man's fly is down, that's his problem, you didn't see anything.

11. Friends don't let friends wear Speedos. Ever. Issue closed.

12. Women who claim they "love to watch sports" must be treated as spies until
they demonstrate knowledge of the game and the ability to drink as much as the
other sports watchers.

13. A man in the company of a hot suggestively dressed woman must remain
sober enough to fight.

14. Never hesitate to reach for the last beer or the last piece if pizza, but not both,
that's just greedy.

15. Unless you're in prison, never fight naked.

16. If you compliment a guy on his six-pack, you'd better be talking about his choice
of beer.

17. Never talk to a man in a bathroom unless you are on an equal footing, ie., both
urinating, both waiting in line etc. For all other situations, an almost imperceptible
nod is all the conversation you need,

18. It is acceptable for you to drive her car, but it is not acceptable for her to drive yours.

19. Thou should not buy a car in the colors of brown, pink, lime green, orange or sky blue

20. The girl who replies to the question "What do you want for Christmas?" with "If you
loved me, you would know what" gets an Xbox. End of story.

I am sorry but I have to get to bed, can't keep my eyes open. I wish you all a very Happy week. I will try to do better next time. Love and best wishes to you all. Cheers, Merle,

I think #6 should be officially enshrined in law...

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better, Merle. Though in those photographs you all look a bit wintery. Just as it's hitting high springtime here of course...

12C sounds highly inconvenient for Australia. Though is it true winter temps in Melbourne can actually go as low as 0C?

That is some list for Manhood Rules.
Hope you got a good nights sleep. It's warmer here, around 82F and very, very windy again today.

Hi Merle:)

A terrific post! Wit and wisdom, information and education all clubbed together like a delightful sandwich. I enjoyed it.

All of you look so happy and charming in the photos. I am sure you had a good time together.

Here in Kochi, it is quite warm. In fact the sun is blazing and occasional showers cool the earth but not enough. Perhaps in another month or so we will have the rainy season.

Have a good day Merle:)

G'Day Merle, I enjoyed reading back through your blog since my last visit. I have been away. Good to hear you are feeling better.Visitors are great therapy for cheering you up aren't they. I did know about Gwen and am so sorry, I remember her as she sometimes left a comment on my blog. Sorry to not give my condolences earlier but as you know I have had other stuff on my plate and been lax in following up on things.
Men's rules, right on. He he.

How nice for you, Jan and Pauline to get together, Merle. That was a lovely surprise for you.

Wow, some rain for you, how wonderful. We haven't had any for about three weeks, not that we're complaining, we've had heaps and the dam levels are looking pretty healthy, a total of 60%.

Love the Rules of Manhood, now all we need are the rules of Womanhood and no doubt, some bright spark will come up with something.

Glad all is well with you, Merle, although I am sorry to hear of Rex's surgery. Those poor kids, what next??

Take care. Hugs.

G'day Merle,

I like the Manhood rules, so funny. And the pictures of the three of you are great. Isn't it fun to spend time with friends, so much to talk about, and so little time.

I am glad you are feeling better and hope you continue to improve.

Have a great rest of the week.

Ann

I like those men's rules. I try to abide by most of them. Certainly you'll never catch me wearing a Speedo. Nice pictures of your friends.

Last week I was watching a movie that was set in Australia--On The Beach with Gregory Peck. Everybody on earth died after a nuclear war, but the Aussies lasted the longest. Sad movie.

Glad ya'll getting some rain. We are forcast to have off and on rain for a week. The temperture are more seasonable today. Those eighties days were like having June in April.
