Post 718 ~ ~ ~ Wednesday, 29th December, 2010.
Hello my Friends ~~ I am back home again after a wonderful
trip seeing so many of my loved relatives, especially the ones
I don't get to see very often - it is 3 or 4 years since I saw
my daughter Julie who lives in Gladstone and her husband who
is very ill and their two children, Christopher 25, and Sammie
who is 28 and is engaged to Scotty and between them they
have 4 beautiful daughters. I hadn't met Scott or the two
younger girls, we took lots of photos and I will post some soon.
We went to Brisbane first to stay a night with two of John's
daughters Rachael and husband Andrew and his only grandchild
Chloe - a dear little girl 2 years old. Rebecca (Bec) has a room
there with them. She came to Gladstone with us and so we had
more time with her and she helped me in and out of the car etc.
John was terrific and helped me all the way and could not have
been more helpful.
I have unpacked and done heaps of laundry and got things back
to normal. We got home Monday afternoon - pretty darn tired, as
I guess John was too. The car never missed a beat and we just
beat floods everywhere we went. There have been more roads
closed since we got home with floods in Q'ld and New South Wales
We were in the car a lot, and did 4,200 kilometers in 6 days.
Stayed Christmas Eve with my brother Peter and left next morning.
We had meals at roadhouses, Maccas and Subway etc.
I doubt if I will ever make the trip again, but it was great.
Thank you so much, John.
The first joke tonight was sent to me by my friend in Melbourne
Gina. Thanks Gina. It is the title of my post.
Most people nowadays think it improper to discipline children,
so I have used other methods to control my kids when they
have had one of 'those moments'.
Since I am a pilot, one that I have found very effective is for
me to just take the child for a flight during which I say nothing
and give the child the opportunity to reflect on his or her
behavior. I don't know if it's the steady vibration from the
engines, or just time away from any distractions such as TV,
video games, computer, iPod, etc.
Either way, my kids usually calm down and stop misbehaving
after our flight together. I believe that eye to eye contact
during these sessions is an important element in achieving
the desired results.
I have included a photo below of one of my sessions with my
son, in case you would like to use the technique...
Works well with Grandkids also......
Sorry the picture is so small but you
get the idea.
Next one is also from Gina and also Bikerr Bob in UK.
I have just heard from a friend in central Bristol.
He says it has been snowing heavily for three days now.
His wife has done nothing but stare through the window.
If it doesn't stop soon, he'll probably have to let her in.
Another from Biker Bob ~ ~ Thank you.
I thought you would want to know about this e mail virus.
Even the most advanced programs from Norton or McAfee cannot
take care of this one.
It Appears to affect those who were born prior to 1960.
1. Causes you to send the same e mail twice. Done that.
2. Causes you to send a blank e mail. That too.
3. Causes you to send e-mail to the wrong person. Yep.
4. Causes you to send it back to the person who sent it to you.
5. Causes you to forget to attach the attachment. Well darn.
6. Causes you to hit SEND before you have finished.
7. Causes you to hit DELETE instead of SEND.
8. Causes you to hitSEND when you should DELETE.
IT IS CALLED THE "C-NILE VIRUS."
Hmmm....Have I already sent this to you or did you send it to me?
A Woman's Poem. Thank you Karyn in New Zealand.
He didn't like the casserole,
And he didn't like my cake.
He said my biscuits were too hard. . . .
Not like his mother used to make.
I didn't perk the coffee right,
He didn't like the stew.
I didn't mend his socks,
The way his mother used to do.
I pondered for an answer,
I was looking for a clue.
Then I turned around and smacked the s**t out of him . . . .
Like his mother used to do.
A nice one from my good friend Linda in Canberra. Thank you.
I have a list of people I know
All written in a book
And every year at Christmastime
I go and take a look
And that is when I realize
That those names are a part
Not of the book they're written in
But of my very heart.
For each name stands for someone
Who has crossed my path some time
And in that meeting they've become
A treasured friend of mine
And once you've met some people
The years cannot erase
The memory of a pleasant word
Or of a friendly face.
So when I send a Christmas card
That is addressed to you
It's because you're on that list
Of folk I'm indebted to
And you are one of many folks who
In times past I've met
And happen to be one of those
I don't want to forget.
And whether I have known you for
Many years or few
In some way you have a part in
Shaping things I do.
This, is the spirit of Christmas, that
Forever and ever endures
May it leave it's richest blessing
In the hearts of you and yours.
May your Holidays and New Year be filled with love, good health
and much Peace.
Well on that nice note, I too will wish you all a wonderful New Year
filled with lots of good things, health, peace and love.
It is good to be back with all my friends again. My love and very
Best Wishes to you all. 'Till next year, cheers, Merle.
