update #5

Hi folks, its Peter again but the news is a little better this week.
After a very worrying week when Merle was unable to eat anything and seemed to be just hanging on she seems to have turned the corner and is so much brighter... getting back to her old self.
The doctors are very pleased with the turn around and have her starting on her exercises again, this time with minimal pain thank the Lord.
Her outlook is so much better, she has started to show an interest in her blog again and asked me to pass on her thanks for all the good wishes and prayers which she is sure have helped her.
I'm happy again so have looked up a joke for you... some of you read holtieshouse as well as here and this joke may even fit better in holtieshouse but I think its funny and I'm sure Merle will agree so here goes...

Sensitive Aussie Blokes.

Three Aussie blokes working up on an outback mobile phone tower:

Mongrel, Coot and Bluey .
As they start their descent, Coot slips, falls off the tower and is
killed instantly..
As the ambulance takes the body away,
Bluey says, 'Well, bugger me, someone's gotta go and tell Coot's wife.'

Mongrel says, 'OK, I'm pretty good at that sensitive stuff, I'll do it.'
Two hours later, he comes back carrying a case of Beer.

Bluey says, 'Where'd you get the booze, Mongrel?'
'Coot's wife gave it to me,' Mongrel replies.

'That's unbelievable, you told the missus her husband was dead and she
gave you a case of beer?'

'Well, not exactly', Mongrel says.

'When she answered the door, I said, "you must be Coot's widow."

She said, 'You must be mistaken.. I'm not a widow.'

Then I said, 'I'll betcha a case of beer you are..'

Aussies are good at that sensitive stuff.

Peter, glad to know that Merle is on the mend. Please let her know that we are praying for her complete recovery.

As for the joke - ROTFLMAO

That was a funny one. I'm sure Merle would agree, However, I'm concerned that the amount of laughter it would evoke might not be that good for her back. Be careful.

What with Christmas and everything I haven't been to visit for a while so it came as a terrible shock to hear about Merle. I'm sure pleased to read that she has turned the corner though and want to pass on my best wishes, I hope she continues to do better.

Oh, Peter, I'm so sorry to hear about Merle! Like Rob, I have not been blogging in awhile, and I was unaware of her compression fracture and the complications she has had as a result.

Please let her know that her friend, Beth, is praying for her. Also, tell her I will place her name on our church prayer chain.

Thank you for all of the updates. Give Merle a gentle hug from me!

P.S. A friend of mine has had two compression fractures in her back. The orthopedic surgeon performed a procedure where he injected some sort of material into the space where the vertebrae used to be. Sort of like a disc replacement. The procedure gave her immediate relief from pain. This was done in the USA, but the procedure might be available in Australia, too.

Thank you, Peter, for the encouraging update. Hang in there, Merle.

Peter, I couldn't find where you said anything about a compression fracture. I had one, T-12, repaired with cement (fast drying bone graft material) on December 28.

Before my pain was excrusiating. Now there is a lingering general pain that is improving everyday. The surgery was done outpatient.

Merle, I pray and hope the best for you and your doctors in their work with you.
..
P.S. My orthopedic surgeon said that in three or more months my pain would begin to ease without the surgery.

I wrote about this surger on January 3, at the bottom of my post. It has a link to a video explaining my surgery and another to my orthopedic surgeon.
