A Very Pertinent Question.

Post  800  ~ ~ ~ Sunday,  16th  September,  2012.

Welcome my friends ~~ I hope all is well in your world and you are keeping well, as I am and feeling better now the weather has warmed up a little. Mind you I still wear plenty of clothes --Slacks and two pullovers and am still cold often.  I have heaters on as well, but am otherwise well.

Isn't Nature wonderful?  The trees are getting leaves and the flowers know when to show their faces.  I know spring is here once the freesias bloom and the camellias and daisies as well. Plenty of color at present and I love to go and just see them. It seems as though when they are planted from a seed, they store the knowledge of when to bloom each year.

I have an appointment with my doctor on Thursday, just for check=up and results of blood tests, but I think that will be good as I feel so well. Then on Friday, I have a podiatrist come to the house, which is so handy, as I really prefer to stay ay home - where I control the heat and feel more comfortable.

Now to find something for you to read.  First one comes from my good friend Lee in Q'ld.
Thank you Lee for "A Very Pertinent Question".

Food for thought ????????

Several weeks ago, sadly, two Tasmanians were lost at sea.
These boys were Tasmanian taxpayers but more importantly
they were Tasmanian sons, brothers, partners of Tasmanians.
The authorities searched the best they could with the resources
they had at hand and then stopped searching, their families and
friends held a fund raiser at the Snug Tavern to raise money to
get a helicopter to continue searching for the boys.

My question to anyone who might be interested is why the families and friends had to raise money to get a helicopter when half the Australian Navy are still out looking for the two hundred boat people who have never paid taxes and who aren’t Australian citizens.

I am not against helping anyone who needs a hand but you have to ask where the governments priorities lie shouldnt we be helping our own with at least the same enthusiasm if nothing else???

If you agree with this point please resend it and get it out there.
We might get an answer if enough people ask the question!

The next two items are from my good friend Lorraine. Thank you Lorraine for "Facebook, GPS etc,"   and also  Cleaning Poem.

   Should I Really Join Facebook?

Read it all the way through! It's a good laugh! AND really quite true!!

A good laugh for people in the over 50 group !!!

When I bought my iphone, I thought about the 30-year business I ran with 1800 employees, all without a mobile phone that plays music, takes videos, pictures and communicates with Facebook and Twitter. I signed up under duress for Twitter and Facebook, so my seven kids, their spouses, 13 grand kids and 2 great grand kids could communicate with me in the modern way. I figured I could handle something as simple as Twitter with only 140 characters of space.

That was before one of my grandkids hooked me up for Tweeter, Tweetree, Twhirl, Twitterfon, Tweetie and Twittererific Tweetdeck, Twitpix and something that sends every message to my cell phone and every other program within the texting World.

My phone was beeping every three minutes with the details of everything except the bowel movements of my entire next generation. I am not ready to live like this. I now keep my iphone in the garage in my golf bag.

The kids bought me a GPS for my last birthday because they say I get lost every now and then going over to the supermarket or library. I keep that in a box under my tool bench with the Blue tooth [it's red] phone I am supposed to use when I drive. I used it once when I was standing in line at Coles talking to my wife and everyone within 50 mtrs was glaring at me. I had taken out my hearing aid to use it, and I was talking little loud!

I mean the GPS looked pretty smart on my dash board, but the lady inside that gadget was the most annoying, rudest person I had run into in a long time. Every 10 minutes, she would sarcastically say, "Re-calc-u-lating." You would think that she could be nicer. It was like she could barely tolerate me. She would let go with a deep sigh and then tell me to make a U-turn when possible. Then if I made a right turn instead, well, it was not a good relationship..

When I get really lost now, I call my wife and tell her the name of the cross roads and while she is starting to develop the same tone as Gypsy, the GPS lady, at least she loves me.

To be perfectly frank, I am still trying to learn how to use the cordless phones in our house. We have had them for 4 years, but I still haven't figured out how I can lose three phones all at once and have to run around digging under chair cushions and checking bathrooms and the dirty laundry baskets when the phone rings.

The world is just getting too complex for me. They even mess me up every time I go to the supermarkets. You would think they could make a decision themselves, but this sudden "Paper or Plastic?" every time I check out just leaves me confused. I bought some of those cloth reusable bags to avoid looking stupid, but I never remember to take them with me.

Now when they ask me, "Paper or Plastic?" I just say, "Doesn't matter to me. I am bi-sacksual." Then it's their turn to stare at me with a blank look. I was recently asked if I tweet. I answered, No, but I do fart a lot."

P.S. I know some of you are not over 50. I sent it to you to allow you to forward it to those who are.

Us senior citizens don't need any more gadgets. The TV remote and the garage door remote are about all we can handle.

Cleaning Poem
I asked the Lord to tell me
Why my house is such a mess
He asked if I'd been 'computering',
And I had to answer 'yes.'
He told me to get off my butt,
And tidy up the house.

And so I started cleaning up...
The smudges off my mouse.
I wiped and shined the topside.
That really did the trick...
I was just admiring my good work..
              I didn't mean to 'click.'

But click, I did, and oops - I found
A real absorbing site
That I got SO way into it -
I was into it all night.

So nothing's changed except my mouse.
It's as shiny as the sun.
I guess my house will stay a mess......
While I sit here on my bum.

Thank you for being my e-mail buddy and friend!

Next is one from my friend Warren and
is called  "Farmer's Logic."  Thanks Mate.
You know there are so many TV channels, each one starved for new programs. In a rural program for farmers, a female TV reporter seeking the main cause of Mad Cow disease, arranged for an interview with a farmer who might have some theories on the matter.

This TRUE interview went as follows:

The lady reporter:
I am here to collect information on the possible sources of Mad Cow Disease. Can you offer any reason for this disease?

The farmer stared at the reporter and said ?
Did you know that a bull mounts a cow only once a year?

Reporter:
(obviously embarrassed): Well, sir, that's a new piece of information but what's the relation between this phenomenon and Mad Cow disease?

Farmer:
Miss, did you know that we milk a cow twice a day?

Reporter:
Sir, this is really valuable information, but what about getting to the point?

Farmer:
I am getting to the point, Miss. Just imagine, if I was playing with your tits twice a day .... and only screwing you once a year, wouldn't you get mad?

Next two are from Pearly Gates. Hope you enjoy.

Who's the Boss?

A husband is advised by a psychiatrist to assert himself, "You don't have to let your wife henpeck you. Go home and show her you are the boss."

Of course, the husband takes the doctor's advice. He rushes home, slams the door, shakes his fist in his wife's face, and growls, "From now on, you're
taking orders from me. I want my supper right now, and when you get it on the table, go upstairs and lay out my best clothes. Tonight, I'm going out
with the boys and you are going to stay at home where you belong.

And another thing ... you know who's going to comb my hair, adjust my pants, and then tie my bow tie?"

"I certainly do," says his wife calmly ...

"The undertaker!"

 Nina's Mouth

Eight-year-old Nina brought her report card home from school. Her marks were good...mostly A's and a couple of B's.

However, her teacher had written across the bottom: "Nina is a smart little girl, but she has one fault. She talks too much in school. I have an idea
I am going to try, which I think may break her of the habit."

Nina's dad signed her report card, putting a note on the back:

"Please let me know if your idea works on Nina because I would like to try it out on her mother."

I will close with a couple of quotations.

Well, time to close until next Sunday. Take good care of each other and yourselves. I hope your lives are happy and there are more good days, than bad. Love and best wishes to you all, Cheers, Merle.

Another great post, Merle. I'm glad to hear that you're feeling so well.

We had some lovely, much-needed rain here last night...oh...what a beautiful sound on the roof it was! We've not had any rain until last night for more than 50 days...it was most welcome...and I hope more is to come...and soon! Take good care.
Hugs. :)

Your health report does sound very positive. Hooray!

"...when they ask me, "Paper or Plastic?" I just say, "Doesn't matter to me. I am bi-sacksual." It is my plan to use this line the next time I go to the store. Love it Merle!

Glad you are feeling so good!! :) Here is my hope that your tests went well. Please assure us tomorrow.

Sorry this is soooo late in my coming here. Part of the problem is that our Adi died Monday. We are missing her. I did'nt put that on my blog until this morning.

Liked the jokes as usual. My favorite was the old fellow and his flirt with the modern tech stuff. I feel like that quite often. We don't have Blue Ray or a DVR or a lot of newer things.

I do have an iPhone 3S but don't use it for talking. My granddaughter, Megan, gave it to me when she updated to a 4S. I took the SIM card out and just use it on the Internet through WiFi. I can see my blog, send free text messages, and get Yahoo e-mail with it as is if I'm where WiFi is.

Maybe she'll give Mrs. Jim her 4S when she gets her 5S. :)
Cheers,
..
