Words about Homes.

This is my son, Geoff and Joanne's lovely home on the outskirts of Melbourne,
2 hours away from Shepparton, where I live. Wonderful home.

Post 618 ~ ~ ~ Wednesday, 29th July, 2009.
Hello my friends ~~ I have decided to post more photos, but with this
one of Geoff's home I was unable to move it down to put the heading
on the post. See how the next one goes, or I may reverse that decision.
I hope you are all well and the week is treating you kindly. All is well
here - on Monday, my friend Lorraine came to do some jobs for me that
I can't do myself, and she gets paid for this.Tuesday, my new Home Care
lady, Cheryl came and did the housework and we are both looking forward
to shopping next Tuesday. Today, my lawns were cut, so all tidy again.
Nearly every day, on the news in Victoria, they say they expect worse
fires this coming Summer. Which is really scary, but they also talk about
burning off the fuel on the roadsides and beneath trees around homes
and fire breaks etc, to prevent what we saw in February this year. For a
good few years, farmers were not allowed to make fire breaks outside
their properties, which was ridiculous. Maybe they are learning at last.
but at what cost?
First item tonight is from an old Friendship Book of Francis Gay. There
are some really nice things in those books. Did anyone else have them?

I don't know the wise man was who described a home in these words.
"A place in which we are wanted, in which there is someone to whom

we matter more than anything in the world, of such a place are the four walls made. But to cover them with garlands, we ourselves must love."

The poet, Goethe said, "He is happiest, be he king or peasant, who
finds peace in his home."

First Fun item is called "Blonde Recipe Jokes."

Blonde Cookbook.
Monday: It's fun to cook for Tom. Today, I made angel food cake.
The recipe said beat 12 eggs separately. The neighbors were nice
enough to loan me extra bowls.
Tuesday: Tom wanted fruit salad for supper. The recipe said serve
without dressing. So I didn't dress. What a surprise when Tom
brought a friend home for supper.

Wednesday : A good day for rice. The recipe said wash thoroughly
before steaming the rice. It seemed kind of silly but I took a bath
anyway. I can't say it improved the rice any.
Thursday : Today, Tom asked for a salad again. I tried a new recipe.
It said prepare ingredients; lay on a bed of lettuce one hour before
serving. Tom asked me why I was rolling around in the garden.
Friday : I found an easy recipe for cookies. It said put the ingredients
in a bowl and beat it. There must have been something wrong with
this recipe. When I got back, everything was the same as I left it.
Saturday : Tom did the shopping today and brought home a chicken.
He asked me to dress it for Sunday (oh boy). For some reason, Tom
keeps counting to ten.

Sunday : Tom's folks came to dinner. I wanted to serve roast but all
I had was hamburger. Suddenly I had a flash of genius. I put the
hamburger in the oven and set the controls for roast. It still came out
hamburger, much to my disappointment.
Goodnight Dear Diary. This has been a very exciting week. I am eager
for tomorrow to come so I can try out a new recipe on Tom.
If I can talk him into buying a bigger oven, I would like to surprise
him with chocolate moose.

Charlie was a Chinese shop-keeper who used to pass Nick the Greek's
shop every Friday to do his banking.
As he passed by,NIck and his mates would call out,"What day is it
Charlie? Charlie would reply, "It is FLIDAY."
This would cause much laughter among Nick and his mates. Poor old
Charlie got fed up with this, so he took speech lessons to fix the
problem.
Then one Friday as he passed Nick's shop and they called out, "What
day is it Charlie?"
He replied in his most eloquent and perfect English, "Today is most
certainly FRIDAY. . . . You Gleek Plicks."

A man calls home to his wife and says, "Honey, I've been asked to
go fishing at a big lake up in the high company with my boss and
several of his friends. We'll be gone a week. This is a good chance
to get that promotion. Would you please pack me enough clothes
for a week and set out my rod and tackle box, We're leaving from
the office and I will swing by the house to pick up my things.
"Oh, yeah. Please pack my new blue silk pyjamas?"
The wife thinks this is a bit fishy but being a good wife she does
exactly what her husband asked.
The following weekend he comes home a little tired but otherwise
looking good, The wife welcomes him home and asks if he caught
many fish?"
He says, "Yes. Lots of trout, some salmon. and a few pike. But why
didn't you pack my new blue silk pyjamas like I asked?"
The wife replies, "I did, they were in your tackle box."

Dear Merle, isn't it nice when the house and yard are all taken care of and everything is looking spiffy again? Your son's home looks HUGE, do they live in the whole house, or is it divided into several apartments?

Loved the Charlie and the Greeks joke and also the man that went fishing(?) and wanted his blue PJ's. Smart women. The entire post was great.
Love, Patty

What a beautiful home your son has. I do hope your fires don't return. Poor blond's, everyone thinks them dumb and I guess they just keep proving it to be true. I love that fishing story. Very nice post, enjoyed them all. Have a great week my friend, take care and be safe.

Wow, love that house, Merle. What did it used to be and how many rooms does it have?

Blonde recipes...lol! They were very good, indeed. As were the puns...I love the sort of thing.

I certainly hope Victoria doesn't get bushfires like they had earlier. Burning off is a good idea. It's done every winter here, in fact, it's in full swing now...the air smells like smoky eucalyptus.

Have a good week and don't go to Bunnings when you go shopping! Lol...

Hugs.

Hi Merle, your kids have a beautiful home. Isn't is something the homes that SOME of our kids have. My five run the gambit but none are homeless at the moment.

I really do like your blonde cook jokes. I will send them to my sister. The fisher guy was great. Do you think he went to Argentina?

Cheers,
..

Your son lives in a mansion!! It is gorgeous. Makes me wonder what the inside is like.

We are having a heat wave. It was over 100 degrees yesterday. My girls brought and installed an AC unit for me. Thank God it's cooler today. I don't do well at all in that kind of heat.

Love the jokes Merle.
Take care.
